Jackie was phenomenal in the BJ storyline and many others before that.

No one blames her for checking out in recent years, since GH wrote pitiful story after pitiful story and wasted her talents.

Jackie Zeman was great for the first 20 years of her run, but then suddenly Bob Guza didn't know how to write for her. And then Brian Frons decided she was too old and no one was interested in following a menapausal nurse. Frons said they shouldn't write for Bobbie anymore (he decreed the same thing about Kristina Wagner's Felicia).

But when she was given story, Jackie Zeman delivered.

Only thing I blame Jackie Zeman for is going overboard with the plastic surgery. But then when you've got a plastic surgeon for a husband who'll do it all for free, there's nothing to stop you from going overboard.

Tracy's dangling tendril was gone today. I was hoping it would become a fixture. Like the bowl of moss on Snarly's kitchen counter that gained fame for a while.

Jackie Zeman ruined her career all by herself. That plastic surgery was scary and she no longer looked like herself. JFP didn’t make her get plastic surgery. Jackie did it to herself.

Instead of killing off Tony Jones, they should at least have brought them back together.

I always thought it was heading in that direction. THEN they could have killed him off. Or just put both of them on recurring.

It will never truly happen, but Carly has a lot of dirt to answer for. The ghosts of AJ and Tony should haunt her nightly, for starters.

Is Frank on good terms with Sean Kanan? Any chance he will recruit him to come and escort Monica to heaven? I believe Amber Tamblyn is on good terms as she popped in for the 60th Anniversary and did a little behind the scenes video of reuniting with her co-stars.

Who else from the past might pop in for Monica's memorial?

I suspect Monica's funeral will be part of the show's 62nd anniversary observance in April, or will be part of May sweeps.

Sean Kanan is on contract at B&B, so will be difficult, but not impossible, to get him for a GH appearance, even if it is to escort Monica to heaven.

R22 That's really sad. If I had to pick my all-time GH favorite, I think it would be JZ as Bobbie Spencer up until the surgery years.

I think her greatest period/storyline was when Sarah Brown came on as Carly, especially around the reveal which took, what, two years before it finally came out? Aside from being filled with pathos, some of JZ's scenes with SJB were deliberately hilarious, when GH still had decent writers. I think she was even better here than the BJ storyline. Tragedy is easy for most decent actors to play, but adding humor divides the great from the good.

I used to love it when Luke called her Barbara Jean. I loved Jackie from the minute I saw her as Lana on OLTL. She had a warmth about her. It was fun watching her grow as an actress. She ended as one of the all time greats in daytime.

As an homage to Bobbie, Lu;u sjouke have a kid named Barbara Jean boo. And then cal her boo-boo through into her. 40s.

R50 They should have introduced some young, hot new male intern who could have seduced Bobbie, Carly, AND Lucas..... kind of like Michael York in Something For Everyone.

Middle-aged Bobbie Spencer could easily have attracted a younger doctor the way Monica once did. They could have started there, then drawn it out.

GH also blew it the way they wrote off Stefon. JZ and Stephen Nichols had a ton of chemistry and they could have done more.

This idea has nothing to do with the current Carly. Still, I think it would have been interesting if Bobbie, after finding out that Carly was her daughter, just outright rejected her after all the shit she pulled. There could have been years of story of just those two going back and forth against each other until finally coming to some understanding to co-exist peacefully.

Well they are going to have to pair Isaiah with someone new as I suspect Sidwell is going to off Jordan. But I don't see Kristina with Isaiah or anyone, she has no charisma or sex appeal. Make her a junior mob boss. Some actors just aren't cut out for romantic relationships.

Maybe TJ will be distraught over his mother's death on top of losing the baby and decides to leave town and start over elsewhere.

The current Carly is so different than #1 and #2 it's really an entirely different character.

R62 Sarah & Tamara's versions were more of a girl from the wrong side of the tracks hoping for acceptance and approval, with insecurity & vulnerability. Sarah's was also nouveau riche while Tamara's was adjusted to the lifestyle yet still knew where she came from. Jennifer's was mentally unstable, a culmination of those past feelings combined with her then current state of affairs. Laura's comes off as a mean girl, brash, loud, spoiled, unapologetic, with a smirk and this whole conceited mentality, which isn't the essence of the character at all.

I don't think that Jennifer Bransford gets enough credit. I thought her Carly was just fine and a perfect continuation of Tamara. I'm not sure who saw Laura Wright and thought Carly. It must have been a network decision, or Laura blew some exec, and they had to find a place for her. I know she was on another show, maybe she was really popular on the other show and had high Q score or something.

Laura was on Guiding Light for eight years without being devoured by Zimmer, and was just out of another awful storyline where her cousin-fucking daughter dies tragically and saw the opportunity to exit the slow-dying warhorse that was Guiding Light over it's last decade and a half Plus, she had started at ABC on Loving and its subsequent spinoff The City, so she was a known soap commodity.

Why do I know this shit off the top of my head?

Chris is a legacy ABC creation and knew all the parties from way back Love her or hate her, she has worked constantly for over three decades and is a known legacy commodity from before the beginning of the end of the glory days of ABC Daytimes ratings dominance.

Nazneen played Kristina's lawyer on a couple of episodes of GH recently. I didn't know this.

She met Carlo when she was 18. She played his daughter on Relic. They were both flirtatious but were both seeing other people and he is 22 years older. They reconnected six years later. She went on and on with the minutiae details of their relationship. They discussed the jealousy surrounding doing love scenes as actors and being in shape for bedroom scenes. She doesn't get jealous, hot blooded Italian Carlo does. Mo's wife was jealous early on in her 20s but is over it now.

She was born in Mumbai, India, spent some of her childhood in Nigeria, then London then U.S. Goes back to India often. Her family in India doesn't consider her Indian as she was raised "Western". Mo asked what does "Western" mean. He's not very bright is he?

She was in a Star Trek movie. She was pregnant when she auditioned and JJ Abrams walked in on her audition. She got the part on the spot.

She praised GH and how supportive everyone is there. Mo said it's a very supportive environment even for actors who aren't good. I guess he would know.

I think it's more of Mo possibly souring on the pairing because the audience doesn't support them together; he was big on Eva La Rue when she first came to the show. There were some who didn't like Nina with Sonny either, which LW made a point to gauge the audience on The Jennifer Hudson Show, yet Sonny and Nina had more of a fan base than Sonny and Natalia.

Then, he was revealed that the multiple personalities were a product of Viki having been repeatedly molested by her father. Yes, the retcons made for better story.

I know we never see Kevin but maybe his absence can actually drive a story for Laura if he’s missing or something.

R339 Remember Mulcahey featured Kevin more, then once Van Etten replaced him, Kevin was phased out, though apparently that was more on Frank; he wanted Genie on less, after she criticized the Heather storyline, which made Kevin a casualty.

It’s a huge canvas. We can’t see everyone. I get it.

But maybe some absences can drive some story for those who are on canvas and I don’t mean another coma.

Mo opened begging for subscribers, he's at 149k, wants 200k. He will throw a party when he gets to 200k subscribers.

Mo says Sharon is a good actress and attractive, the total package. Mo considers himself a closet Y&R watcher and Eric Braeden is his friend. Mo likes the "conversational" style of Y&R.

Sharon is from Detroit, moved to CA when she was four. Boring football discussion, Lions and the 49ers (Mo's team). Mo loved Joe Montana.

She has no mental health problems nor does her family. Mo went on a tangent about s uicide. Sharon said she now knows three people who took their lives since the pandemic. Mo asked if she knew Billy Miller, she said "yes" and upgraded her number to four. She didn't expand any further about Billy.

Discussion of her love for dancing when she was young and Mo dragging out the conversation about her dancing way too long.

Sharon modeled in Japan when she was young. Mo said " but you're not tall". Mo once again told the story about how he wanted to be a model when he was in his 20s and how disappointed he was that he didn't succeed because of his height. Mo's family is going to Japan in April and he might go with them if he can conquer his anxiety of flying.

She touched on her time on GH which was before Mo's time. No details just that she played Leslie Charleson's daughter, no mention of Leslie's death. Mo asked who was the EP when she was on GH, she said Wes Kenney, Mo said he never heard of Wes.

They discussed Sharon's character on Y&R being bipolar. They determined that Sharon has been playing a bipolar soap character a little longer than Mo has as she played bipolar on ATWT before Y&R. Mo thought he had been playing a bipolar character on soaps longer than any actor and was disappointed Sharon holds the title. Mo rehashed the story about trying to kill his wife during one of his episodes and why his wife stayed with him. Mo says he can read people's minds when he's having one of his bipolar episodes.

More discussion of playing bipolar soap characters, Sharon saying her character recently tried to kill someone and Mo saying his character killed an FBI agent.

Rather boring.

R342 Great job. The part where Mo was disappointed upon learning Sharon has played bipolar characters longer is hilarious. If it helps him any, she played two different characters, in comparison to him, with Sharon often recast as well, prior to Case. Also, the last time his wife and son left him alone, while vacationing abroad, he was in the process of having a breakdown, though apparently that was somewhat attributed to Mulcahey's writing.

Maybe they should just turn Lucky into a reverend. He can be all godly and shit.

Based on what I've heard JJ is making, there is no way they're making a return on that investment. Granted, it's not 90s and early 2000s money, but it's pretty good for today's soap salaries. Meanwhile, they're paying Ric Hearst only 5% over scale.

Franco and Jason are navigating brotherhood, Oscar is DEAD, OG Kristina is spunky and likeable, Sam speaks clearly, Shiloh is a badass (and has great chemistry with Alexis- they should have gone there and really gotten messy), Peter is hamming it WAY up, Sasha and Michael are newly coupled, Julian is a smoke show, and Ava has an earlier version of her face. The stories are boring AF, but the cast is stacked and everyone looks great.

From next week's preview "The tension between Drew and Curtis grows"....

If only! Now THAT would make the show worth watching.

Back in 2007-2008 when josh Duhon was playing Scotty's son Logan, GH initially let Duhon do shirtless scenes showing the giant tattoos on both of his upper arms. I think one of the tattoos was of the Texas flag.

Apparently those tattoos didn't go over well with the audience. Or maybe just with JFP and Guza. But after the first few times Duhon was shirtless in sex scenes (with Lulu and later Maxie), they started using makeup to cover up those tattoos.

R440 That’s from Facebook and they’re claiming it’s NLG which I don’t believe. The truth is the show randomly put him on contract to look more inclusive but allowed Mansi to take over his storyline with Vaganos. He’s been slowly but consistently pushed out and now they’re putting Molly with Cody, who is portrayed by an actor who is good friends with Frank. Cody has been a flop from day one but they’ll continue to force him onscreen.

I suspect Jordan is next on the chopping block. Either killed by Sidwell or dropped to recurring. Jordan/Isaiah isn't getting much buzz or airtime. Who else is there to try and pair Isaiah with? They already tried Molly and seemed to have passed on that although Molly and her ex-mother in law after the same guy might have been interesting.

NLG is a big Haley Pullos cheerleader. Tajh is Haley's ex. Does NLG have an issue with Tajh's support or lack of support during Haley's self-inflicted legal problems? I don't know if he supported her or not, just spit balling as to what the issue might be if there is even one. They don't really have many scenes together.

JJ was appealing when he was a kid and coasted on being the son of the great Luke and Laura. He had some talent and was mentored by Tony, but he's wrong for soaps now. He doesn't have the look, and his acting style doesn't work on this version of General Hospital. I'm assuming they were going for nostalgia and for "the feels" from longtime fans, but it no longer works. There are times when you can't go home again, and this is clearly an actor who isn't acting and isn't getting any meaningful work, returning to soaps for a big (for soaps) undeserved payday, trying to recapture something long dead.

R446, I’m always shocked Tanisha Harper is on contract as Jordan but Frank also likes to trot her out for press. She has good chemistry with the actor playing Isaiah, Sawandi Wilson, however, his best chemistry is with Becky Herbst. They had scenes about a week ago in Charlie’s and they were excellent. They’re trying to coast on Liz/Lucky teen nostalgia but it’s falling flat. Put Liz with hot doctor Isaiah.

Seems we have another David Tom situation here. However, Billy Miller had been playing Billy Abbott for five years when he left and had made the character his own. As a result, the character had changed significantly enough the David Tom wasn't able to reclaim it.

In JJ's case, he was the last person to play Lucky, albeit 13 years earlier (not counting his four-day gig in 2015 helping send Tony Geary off). But his coming back with low energy, lackadaisical approach and unkempt style really hurt the character.

JJ played the friend and colleague of a gay country singer on Nashville for several seasons. I would be surprised if he took issue with the Aiden scenes. He did a great job in Aiden’s coming out scene with Lucky a few months ago.

JJ's low energy, soft spoken, minimal effort acting is a SNOOZEFEST.

It comes off as arrogant to me. He thinks he's so special all he has to do is show up and grace us with his presence.

He has the same clause that Tony had: JJ can rewrite lines and adlib. He may have been forced to join the union the way Tony was, but I do know the only thing he specifically requested story-wise was that Lucky be with Liz.

Maurice has story approval; you don't need to join the union or get a waiver for story approval. To some degree, many veteran actors get pitched stories, which is a kind of story approval. They try to make it more "collaborative" to get buy-in from the vets. For instance, they know what NLG and Steven Burton will not play, so they don't pitch or write those types of stories for those actors.

Burton doesn’t care anymore about story approval or what he will or won’t play. He flat out said on his podcast how stupid the Jason/Sasha story was and called it “terrible”. He’s just there to grab a check to pay his ex-wife.

JJ will ditch the show the minute he gets to cry and snot his way to another Emmy.

Burton can't feign interest in anything. On that show he does with Bradford he looks bored out of his mind with most of the guests and doesn't even try to hide it. Bradford is over the top manic and enthusiastic to make up for Steve's lack of enthusiasm and carries most of the show. Do the guests on their show get paid? Do Mo's guests get paid?

Sonny having amnesia in Nixon Falls was a great storyline. One of the few times I've ever been interested in the character of Sonny.

The quadrangle you describe above could have been quite good, especially if you add in Britt and Jax to the mix. Would have been a great follow-up to Nixon Falls. Shows these days don't do some complicated love stories with so many sides.

The pushback I'm referring to is Frank and also Maurice, among others, for example, being petty by having storylines interrupted and actors fired. It's pushback in the sense that's it's pushing back against what the audience wants, when it's able to occur; Nathan wanted Mulcahey, Chris and Dan were fired, only for Chris to almost immediately return with Mulcahey being fired. Another one was the perfectly fine burgeoning relationship between Jason and Britt, only for Laura Wright/Korte to team up and decimate the story in favor of Jason and Carly, since Wright was bothered by their popularity. Pushback in terms of throwing tantrums, rearranging storylines, etc. Frank micromanaging everything with cast members throwing their weight around is a detriment to the show.

I don't see any reason to bring Evan Hofer back especially since Steve refused to be Dex's father. Who else can be his father? On the flip side, maybe they are trying to build up a new generation of WSB spies since Anna and Robert have aged out and Brennan is no spring chicken either. Joss, Dex's twin Rex and who else can they recruit to be a spy?

If Brennan is meant to be a long term charaqcter, the Dex/Rex./Lex or whatever his name is will turn out to be Brennan's son.

IF Brennan is not long term character, the Dex/Rex/Lex will turn out to be Robert or Mac Scorpio's son.

Bobbie's funeral was so dollar store. Having Laura up there like they were life long buddies when they normally hated each other. I've only watched off and on, mostly off, for years. Did they do anything for Amy or Jessie? I tell you who knew how to do funerals and that was AMC. Especially Myrtle's and Mona's. Myrts was a whole interesting story line. Took days. It didn't have the feel of oh look she's did scrape together some old footage.

I thought bringing BJ back was wonderful.

It is my understanding that they are paid and credited until their option expires. In every contract, there are either 13 or 26-week options. An actor can be dropped at the end of each option. If they are dropped before the option, they will be paid until the end of the option, not the end of the contract - unless the contract has reached its initially signed conclusion.

When an actor signs a 3 or 5-year contract, it doesn't always guarantee 3 or 5 years of employment.

R580 That's correct, which is what I was saying at R579 but I only said some since their are cases where the contract is completed when termination occurs, meaning immediate removal from the credits. GH only does two year contracts now, though yes, every 13 weeks, for rookie contracts, or every 26 weeks, for most veterans, one can justifiably be terminated, without any extra pay. If terminated before the cycle ends, whatever time is left in the contract will be paid.

R580 When I said whatever time is left in the contract, I meant the time left in the cycle, not the complete contract. Frank usually likes to terminate as close to the cycle date as possible, as in the case of Kelly Monaco, instead of paying extra, which is a reason why her firing occurred closer to the time her contract was going to be up for renewal.

More likely, like the 3-5 year contacts, the week contract options work mostly in the show's favor. The show has an option to keep working and paying an actor for the full 13 or 26 weeks, but they can also decide not to and drop the actor at any point during the contract option. and end payment. Actors working under these contract options don't have any leverage. The show could easily get replacements for those roles.

The show just wants to make sure they can use those actors for those weeks and they don't get another job, but they can't tie them up for years. They also wouldn't want their storylines completely dictated by actor contract options.

R584 Right, contracts benefit the show primarily; one caveat for being on contract are guarantees, which don't come with recurring status. However, over the years guarantees unfortunately drastically reduced.

Guarantees are like a set salary; an actor can budget when he knows he will make a certain amount every 13 or 26 weeks. Soaps have also started doing this heavy recurring thing, where a recurring actor is told upfront that he or she will be used heavy in story for a certain amount of time. Also, these days, recurring characters can carry their own stories, something that was unheard of in the past. Most of this has come about because of the way soaps are shot now. In the old days, they'd shoot one, maybe two, in order to bank shows for holidays and vacations per day. Now they're doing 8 -10 episodes a week.

Hit send too quickly, someone like Ric Hearst can come in and shoot 2 months worth of shows in 2 weeks. It's great for actors who want to be available for other things.

R586 Right except guarantees aren't as much as they used to be, however they're still beneficial. Heavy recurring is a good thing as well, although there can be weeks or even months without any work, which is why being on contract is sometimes more favorable, although not necessarily always, especially if there's outside work available, though GH is pretty lenient in the sense that the dark weeks give additional time off. The show stopped taping Valentine's Day and won't resume until Monday, March 3rd.
