I had no idea they're carnivorous. Apparently, this isn't AI (or at least Grok didn't point it out). I will never look at squirrels the same way. No wonder that squirrel was attacking pedestrians in Marin County!
Today I learned squirrels really do = death

I saw a squirrel eat its baby in my backyard as a teenager. It was horrific.

Told ya I was hardcore!

Maybe the ones around my house can take care of a couple of rats that keep coming over from the neighbor's side of the fence. She has rotting fruit she doesn't pick.

That squirrel must be French.

In America, everyone eats. ;(

This is NOT okay!

Dollface thread!

Is it AI, or not? (I would have written, "So is it AI or not?" but I'm afraid of the person who doesn't like us to begin sentences with "so" would come after me.)

Are they evolving?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 18, 2025 3:19 PM |
There's not one mention of AI on the Twitter threads I've seen. And:

Here's a good article about the behavior, which has mainly been observed in that one park, where there was been an overpopulation of voles. It doesn't say anything about the squirrels eating lizards, though.

The article is about western ground squirrels and voles, in the park mentioned in OPs link, Briones Regional Park

I wonder if tree squirrels have it them, too.

Marlene, why?

I'm sticking with chipmunks. They are ADORABLE, look they have each had a perfect eye lift, are plucky, sweet, make cute noises, and have you ever seen them run through a field? They almost fly--They are mighty, charming, and in on the joke.

I had no idea Bullwinkle was in constant danger.

Squinnies!

I'm uncomfortable with the pronoun choices in these comments. Literal violence.

That lizard tastes like chicken. And, trust me, I've had chicken, too.

Isn’t Grok a full-on Nazi now?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 19, 2025 3:14 AM |
They prefer nuts. Watch out!

Squirrels have gained access to the Datalounge and have been driven mad by the “What’s For Dinner PT3” thread.

Listen youse, these freaking praying mantis’ are terrifying. These f***king stick insects will kill and eat a baby mammal. My dog’s lead me to two of these cocky fuckers strutting across our parking lot.

Even the squirrels are Republican now.

I'll tell you what is TRULY dangerous and that's flying squirrels if they get into your attic.
The l'il bastards are notorious gnawers of electrical wiring and reports of fires they have caused are numerous.
Call your exterminator STAT if you see a flying squirrel hanging around your house!

Reddit's page on this is ful of Canadians who are say "Well, of course. Duh." In the meantime, in Russia...
Squirrels have bitten to death a stray dog which was barking at them in a Russian park, local media report. Passers-by were too late to stop the attack by the black squirrels in a village in the far east, which reportedly lasted about a minute.
They are said to have scampered off at the sight of humans, some carrying pieces of flesh.
A pine cone shortage may have led the squirrels to seek other food sources, although scientists are sceptical.
