Madonna’s video for “Borderline”
Watching it now. God, that very first b/w shot of her is so amazing. Not her first single but her first big hit, the song that really got her noticed everywhere. “Lucky Star” was rereleased after this became a hit.
Who plays her Latino bf in this video? He looks quite short.
Whatever happened to the woman with the crimped hair?
Does that area of LA still look the same?

How many abortions had she had up to this point? At least low double digits.

Wasn't "Borderline" originally written for Mary Wilson of the Supremes to kick start her solo career? But in her infinite wisdom, Ms. Wilson turned it down.

Did Madonna write this song to celebrate her personality disorder?

Great song, great video. Both still hold up beautifully.

It's one of her best songs.

Annoying whiny baby voice that was supposed to make her sound sexy. Thankfully she lowered her pitch on the True Blue album.

So who played the boyfriend? I actually find one of the other guys in his group cute, it's the guy who looks quite young. He's at the 1:53-1:54 mark. God, he's probably in his 60s now.

Louie Louie as the boyfriend, and John Leguizamo as the friend of the boyfriend.

Madonna was WAY better when she was wannabe-Latina riding brown cock.
She became a sourpuss when she went all Anglophile, fake-British accent, Mrs. Guy Ritchie.

Louie Louie had a minor hit in 1990.

Her look was a sensation when she first became famous.

That’s not John Leguizamo at the 1:53 mark though. That’s some random Mexican/Central American dude.

Louie Louie, aka Louis Cordero.
John Leguizamo was NOT in the Borderline video. He claimed he was when he was on Live with Kelly & Mark, but he LIED. He said he was the young boy in red sweats and that he had heard Madonna hung out in the LES looking for Puerto Rican boys so he went to find her. But the video was shot in LA, and Leguizamo would've been 23 in 1984, not 13 or 14 as the boy in sweats looks to be.

Leguizamo lies about EVERYTHING - about being Puerto Rican, his age, the Borderline video, about being poor and disadvantaged (his dad studied film at Cinecitta in Rome).
His parents were middle-class Colombian immigrants - he lived in Little Colombia in Queens. He always knew he wasn't Puerto Rican. But didn't stop him from being Grand Marshall of the NYC Puerto Rican parade.

Scenes were shot at El Guanaco bar at 1201 E. 6th Street, Los Angeles. The bar and building were demolished many years ago.

That kid in the red jacket looks too tall to be John Leguizamo.
