‘Friday the 13th Part 2’ is superior to the original in every way
The cast is overall better, and all of them are so fucking hot it’s insane. Like, all the guys and girls in Part 2 are hot. It’s the hottest cast of the franchise.
The acting is good. The suspense is good. And most of all the pacing is better. This one moves at a much better pace than the first, and is more fun.
Ginny is a much better final girl than Alice in every way.
Killing off Alice in the opening scene was great.
Freddy was at his best in this one, before the hockey mask and his running instead of just walking.
The one thing I noticed that was bizarre was they had one black guy in the group who was shown maybe two times with zero lines and then he’s never shown again.

Weird. I thought this might have been an old thread that I started that was bumped
Because I agree with EVERY word.
This one was really SCARY-- Especially the last 20 minutes- It was really well done.
Paul- HE'S IN THE FUCKING ROOM!!!!! is one of the scariest moments ever.
I love this one-- I love Part 3 almost as much but the 3-D production style forced alot of gimmicks and way to bright lighting for a film like this-
For me its
Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 1
(I find Part 6 overrated- I am not into that level of comedy in a horror film)

Way TOO MUCH bright lighting ^^

All the guys were hot. I had a massive crush on the guy in a wheelchair. Not just because he’s hot but so sweet and insecure because he’s in a wheelchair.
I just learned he’s gay in real life and died in 1995 from AIDS

The dudes were a bunch of Moes in real life- The dude with his throat slit became an official brother later in life.
I found the blonde Paul- very hot! The others did nothing for me.
And Ginny and Amy Whatshername RULE.

R6 you could have just said Paul. The actor is blonde. There wasn’t a brunette Paul in the movie

The movies with Jason in the hockey mask with a machete just suck ass. (Let’s admit, NONE of the movies are really any good.)
What is a shame, because that’s really the iconic Jason.
I actually liked the remake, although I agreed with the superfans that Jason doesn’t emote — they should have avoided that creative decision.
Still, imo this oft-derided remake is actually the best of all the movies, I mean, as a film. But almost everyone scorned it.

R8 couldn’t disagree more.
Most slashers aren’t “good” movies in general but the original and its sequel were not bad movies. Everything after 4 was really really bad though.
3 was silly because of the 3D gimmick. 4 was cheesy. 5 onward use mostly comedy.

R8- I liked the remake as well- It had some damn scary moments and some good moments overall. 6.5/10
The dock kill was simple, vicious, and EPIC.
I would actually put that one ahead of Part 1 in my list- So 4th in the series

OP I agree. Part 2 is actually the best in the franchise. The pacing is fast and smooth and the characters are more likable.
As for the black guy, there are a few of them that are just used as extras. They go out partying and never come back by the time Ginny and Paul have to take on Jason. So we don’t know if they ever come back or not. They just exist to have more bodies in the background

Siskel and Ebert hated the first one (like most critics back in 1980) but they liked the sequel a lot. Surprisingly

The remake wasn’t scary and lacked tension.

The best thing about the original was Betsy Palmer’s reveal as Jason’s mother and the lengthy fight between her and Alice. That was epic, largely due to the fact that Palmer appeared to do all of it without a stunt double.

The documentary about Tom McBride (the guy in the wheelchair) and his life with AIDS is on YouTube.

They didn’t use many stunt double on anyone in those early movies. The actress who played Ginny in the sequel was even told by the stunt coordinators she should get stunt adjustments for all she had to do.

I follow Lauren Taylor (who played Vicki) on Instagram. She pretty active with the horror convention scene.

Marta Kober and Lauren-Marie Taylor were both minors when they filmed the movie, with Marta having a sex scene and nudity filmed. When Paramount found out she was a minor they forced the nudity to be cut from the film.

I've always found Ginny a little overrated as a final girl. And Amy Steel is not a great actress. She always spoke like the Nyquil was kicking in.

Ginny was the best final girl of this franchise.

The first two movies in the franchise are my favorites. They were filmed in New Jersey and Connecticut, respectively, so they have that Northeast feel where you can practically smell the Deep Woods OFF and feel the poison ivy. And the actors don’t have that slick Hollywood wannabes feel.
Plus, Harry Crosby and Kevin Bacon in speedos.
I agree that Tom McBride (the guy in the wheelchair) was beautiful. He got my attention when I first saw it and then I learned his history later.

I watched part 1 the other day and there was a quick shot where it looked like Kevin Bacon had a boner (the speedo scene). I'm surprised that made it past the censors. Maybe they had their hands full with all of the violence.

R31- I will give you that-- Part 3 (which I love) was clearly in CA- southern CA has such an easy to define look- The tyes of trees, the smog back in the 80's-- the type of architecture- Those first 2 are the northeast in a nutshell-
I can tell a film made in Canada instantly- I can tell a film made in New England - instantly- Generally by the trees and architecture-
One of my favorite films of recent years- The Holdovers- The minute it started I was like- Oh great Canada, and within a few minutes I knew it was filmed in the suburbs of Boston.

T33, a lot of The Holdovers, especially the small town and a lot of the school exteriors, was filmed to the north of Springfield.

It’s sometimes my favorite. I love the 2-4 “trilogy” and those are always my top 3.
Is anyone going to mention part 7? Nearly the whole male cast is gay and mom is a lesbian. Sometimes it’s referred to as FriGay the 13th.

R36- If they had not edited all of the great kills out of Part 7- That one would be up there for me!

I agree that Ginny was the best final girl out of the entire series.
The problem with Alice is she was intentionally under written because who survives was supposed to be a mystery seeing as Annie was set up in the beginning to be the final girl and was the first one to die.
Ginny had more depth and backstory.
The other final girls aside from Tommy all had these issues that tried to connect them to Jason and it didn’t really work.
I think Friday the 13th Part 2 captured what the first one should have.
I feel like the first one is a classic but I wouldn’t argue the second one being the superior.

The 7th movie always haunts me!
I’ll never forget it!
In the 90s, premium channels would run free for a few weeks in the summer and I’d have it on 24/7.
I’ll never forget waking up in the morning to the sound of the lesbian Mom with the horrible 80s hairstyle screaming TINAAAAA in the woods. And then the asshole she’s with uses her as a way to protect himself from Jason.
I was horrified lol!!

The one thing that I do like after the movies after the third one was the heightened fantasy of 80s youth culture contrasting with the crazy death scenes.
Like the late 80s movies are less small town suburbia teenage fashion and more 80s MTV fashion.
It’s like watching people dressed up like Cyndi Lauper and Boy George and Lisa Lisa getting butchered.
Especially “Jason Takes Manhattan”.

The first is not high art but I don’t think it’s as bad as the original reviews say it was. I like how real the characters are as compared to the archetypes victims become in later slasher films. And there are some great eerie moments such as the child’s voice calling “Help me!!!” or Alice running and getting swallowed up by the inky blackness. Plus, the whole reason for the rampage made logical sense rather than just a crazy killer.
