Charlie Hunnam is hot but did Sons and a few movies. He probably had begun to age out of roles before Monster as I'm not sure he's done anything recent.

R21 it’s because of what he looks like. If he wasn’t hot and had more followers than he does (he has 557k followers, not even close to 1 mil yet) he still wouldn’t get cast outside of a possible guest role in 1 episode.

Same reason talentless pretty boy Michael Provost was cast on this same show.

He hasn’t done much of anything since that Netflix show Insatiable was canceled.

That is mostly correct Op, but as casting goes it does not seem a bad idea in general and has worked for him and for some of the actors (both old and new). The problem is, as pointed out often, he can’t generally sustain one show throughout , mostly due to writing/plot. He launches one, subcontracts and starts another, I haven’t finished one of his shows in a long time (even with the eye candy).

The one abysmal thing he did re casting, was Hollywood. Maybe it was because of the pandemic but they were mostly atrocious.

I don't think that's fair to Murphy, r26. For all his faults, his shows sometimes have glamour and/or sex appeal. Tyler Perry makes cheap movies that cater to the lowest common denominator. He has zero taste.

Hunter McVey has never acted. He has no credits. He has a navel gazing podcast called the Wholesome Degenerate where he talks about himself for hours. Hunter is an aspiring influencer who had booked some insignificant modeling campaigns (Fruit of the Loom.) He is also an online sex worker.

Hunter was likely cast by Murphy after Murphy came across McVey’s OnlyFans page and liked what he saw. This is a BIG red flag. It would be one thing if Murphy had cast McVey for a one-off guest spot. But he gave him a series regular role. A complete nonactor.

Even the dowager empress of the casting couch, Charlotte Kirk, at least was pursuing acting as a career, took acting classes and had credits.

This could seriously be Murphy’s downfall if McVey decides to talk. One of the caveats of the casting couch is that it only works if the castee wants a career in show business and adheres to industry discretion. McVey doesn’t want to work in Hollywood playing other people; he wants to be famous for being himself. He has everything to gain by unzipping his lips.
