At first I thought Thiel was doing this to appeal to the evangelicals, but it seems he's been doing for a while. The lectures are off-the-record, surely some can pay $200 to attend one and summarize for us. Important - does Thiel see himself as the antichrist, beginning a reign of tribulations but earning internal life (promised by satan) and eventual victory or does Thiel see himself as combating the antichrist using woo-woo technology and ascending into heaven?
