When you ask for a great song and then bring up "Africa" I know you aren't a music lover, and that you have bad taste in music.

TOTO...AFRICA!!

ARE YOU HIGH?

by Anonymousreply 13October 9, 2025 2:36 PM

OP, I think you meant to post this, and accidentally posted "Africa".

Awful. A good example of why the popular music of that era is not fondly remembered by so many people who lived through it.

by Anonymousreply 15October 9, 2025 2:52 PM

R15 I lived through that era, and I have very fond memories of that era's music.

Dang!

I love sooo many songs from many genres, and with that stated, I cannot believe some of you here don’t appreciate Africa.

It’s an amazing song from TOTO, as are Rosanna & Georgie Porgy.

Listen, there are TONS of ridiculously amazing songs from black artists, & I recognize this & listen to music from them regularly.

The above stated, Africa is an iconic song, & people STILL listen to it to this day, as do young people who are developing their taste in music.

BOWIE has "so many greatest, most iconic songs" ever written& executed R8.

PRINCE (with his band The Revolution) and by himself.

The BEATLES-"Let it Be, The Long and Winding Road" John Lennon, Imagine

Africa has some of the worst lyrics of all time, OP. I couldn’t hear at age 3 without understanding it was embarrassing pap:

[quote] The wild dogs cry out in the night/ As they grow restless longing for some solitary company/I know that I must do what's right/Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti I seek to cure what's deep inside/Frightened of this thing that I've become

The musicians are so good, their performances so sharp and the production so clever that it makes the song excellent. It’s kind of charming.

Saying "Africa" is a masterpiece that transcends time and space is like saying The Cheesecake Factory is the most divine, imaginative cuisine that ever existed on the planet.

One is, of course, entitled to one's own opinion......
