I'm watching baseball for what may as well be the first time ever.

Can one of you explain what's happening in the Blue Jays/Yankees game - I'm confused because the Yankees just let that guy go to first base instead of trying to strike him out.

I'm Canadian, so I'm rooting for Toronto.

TIA.

How butch!

It’s a really boring game. I can handle football even though I’m not a sports fan but that’s it

Was he a star player and was there a runner or two on the bases? They probably walked him to avoid him getting a homer with runs batted in.

Now try to guess how many times the next batter will take a practice swing, spit and tug on his crotch. Isn't baseball grand?

They call him Vlady, R6 and yeah, there were some people on the bases.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ,so, a star player, I'd guess.

Didn't see this game but batters are walked for two basic overlapping reasons. The batter is a decent hitter and the next batter is not, or there are two outs, runners on second and third, and loading the bases means a throw to any base results in the third out.

by Anonymousreply 10October 8, 2025 4:14 AM

OP: I know you not going to understand the following, but with what you described, the pitcher wants to walk the batter in the attempt to force a double play particularly if there is already one out.

by Anonymousreply 11October 8, 2025 4:19 AM

OP: Little known strategy, but it means there will be a reward in the showers folliwng the game.

by Anonymousreply 12October 8, 2025 4:22 AM

What's a double play?

by Anonymousreply 13October 8, 2025 5:01 AM
