Unbalanced Duos/Teams
I don't mean mentally unbalanced, of course - but that's not a disqualifier. Talking about duos (not DUETS) two people who performed or worked together regularly - not just one-offs- where one was clearly more talented than the other. Real or fictional.
Real:
Simon & Garfunkel
Hall & Oates
Sonny & Cher
Wham!
Fictional:
Poirot & Hastings
Holmes & Watson
Batman & Robin
Not sure whether they qualify:
Steve & Eydie

Not sure about Sonny and Cher. She'd be a nobody if he hadn't written hits for them.

Barman is a mentor and Robin is his protege. They were never meant to be seen as equal. Of course Batman is "more talented" than the teenager he trains.

Paul Simon is obvs a brilliant songwriter but there's no way in hell he would have gained the fame he did initially, in the 60s, without Art Garfunkel's fantastic voice. Their joint interpretations of his early songs were sublime; Paul singing solo would have been flat and uninteresting.

I don't think OP has really thought this through very well.
Darryl Hall was a fine singer, but John Oates played guitar wrote many of their songs.
No one ever claimed Watson or Hastings were up to the level of Holmes and Poirot--they were there to admire and to form a more human contrasts with the supernatural powers of the super-detective.

Eydie released a series of albums sung in Spanish that are still a terrific listen. Unless you meant Steve was the lesser of the two, in which case you are correct, sir!

Steve was as big a singing star in his time as Eydie was.

Tears for Fears. Roland Orzabal wrote most of the songs and sang many of them. Curt Smith was cuter and had a higher voice. It irritated Orzabal that Smith was pretty much featured alone in the video for Everbody Wants to Rule the World.

Simon and Garfunkel were not imbalanced. Neither one would have achieved stardom without the other.
Someone upthread said Garfunkel was more talented. Why is it then that Simon remained a huge star but Garfunkel faded after they split?

They’re talking about Garfunkel’s singing voice, r15. Simon is a fine singer in his own right, but Art’s voice is otherworldly.

R17, I just see OP talking about talent, not just singing.
Garfunkel clearly does have the better voice but that doesn’t mean Simon doesn’t have a good voice too.
I’m just trying to be fair here — Simon actually appears to be a loathsome person.

Simon's voice is ok, he just would not have achieved the huge solo success he gained in the 70s, without first hitting it big as part of the singing duo with Garfunkel, a decade prior. It was their combination of voices that led to their first success.
Simon went solo after 1970 and went on to still sell many records, but he was already a household, established name by then and that was the foundation of his solo success. The 70s was the time of the hippie-ish, off-beat looking, singer-songwriter anyways (think Taylor, Chapin, Croce, Carole King, etc) so it was a prime time for him to do this.

Loggins & Messina, ‘70s. Young Kenny Loggins was the brighter star in that duo and he wrote most of their few hits (Danny’s Song, House At Pooh Corner).

Brother and sister ice dancers Isabelle and Paul Duchesnay. He was a much more talented skater than she. Here is their famous performance to “Missing”, choreographed by her then-hubby Christopher Dean.

If we talk about groups with two leads, Destiny’s Child. Beyoncé was just the lead on most of the singles, and less so the bigger they got. But all in all, she and Kelly shared co-lead throughout their entire discography. Does it need to be stated who is more talented 😆.

Maybe we can start now with some well-balanced, equally-matched duos:
Tracy and Hepburn
Bing Crosby and Bob Hope
Lucy and Desi
Seals and Crofts
Les Paul & Mary Ford
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (maybe)
Teensy & Weensy
William Powell & Myrna Loy
Doris Day & Rock Hudson
Carol Burnett & Julie Andrews
George Burns & Gracie Allen (maybe, again)
Phil Harris & Alice Faye
Bert & Ernie

R58 Danny Devito always plays the same role- himself. Charlie Day is excellent and better than all of them. Rob Mac is cute but also prob playing himself. Not a stretch.

The fact that you think Danny DeVito as playing himself speaks to the strength of his acting ability and how natural the performance is, r59.
You're crazy if you think he's anything like Frank Reynolds in real life.

R60 It’s a character type. A loud, bawdy, short, uncouth character. His character on Taxi was the same. He’s been that way in all the roles I’ve seen him in. Maybe he’s not playing himself but rather a type. It’s still no feat.
