Poor bear š¢
Theyāre such adorable creatures. I donāt know why animal control couldnāt have just driven him to the Poconos or upstate New York where he could turn a new leaf.

I totally agree with you, R1.
Black bears are my absolutely favorite, and they are so cute.
But this poor bear looked like it might have had something wrong with it.
Maybe he was sick, or something.

Save the carcass! It would make a great practical joke.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 19, 2025 3:53 AM |
R2 Don't try to pet a bear no matter how cute you think they are.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 19, 2025 4:04 AM |
They shouldda shot it with tranks and set it free on Staten Island.

Poor bear. He was looking for Kahoots and was misdirected.

Oh the video has no footage of the biting.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 19, 2025 5:02 AM |
is that digital tracking of the bear in the video, or was someone that close to it with a cell phone?

Was it a Blatino Husbear?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 19, 2025 9:17 AM |
Itās standard procedure to kill a bear that does something like this. The bear has showed evidence that it is unafraid of humans and willing to bite them. Risk of tragedy in the future.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 19, 2025 9:34 AM |
^ kill any animal, TBH.

Maulface thread.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 19, 2025 10:02 AM |
The bear was killed because he bit a human and the brain needed to be examined for rabies infection.
I worked at a vet clinic and one morning a woman brought in a scared kitten she had rescued out of the street and was bitten by it during the encounter. The kitten was killed for the same reason. I felt bad for the kitten but also for the woman who tried to help the poor thing and it ended up losing its life.

Did the bear lose her snap ,medicaid and section 8 benefits? She was in Dollar General after all.

Blame the human idiots who think it's cute to habituate wild animals to humans, by feeding them.

A bear in a store???

Yes! Youāre coming so far with your reading. Keep it up and donāt get discouraged when there are big words.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 19, 2025 11:49 AM |
Eh, there was a bear in my yard a few nights ago, bigger than the store bear but small enough that I assumed it was a female.
The cameras on my property picked her up -- otherwise I never would have noticed, except for a brand new bent-up part of the chain-link fence. There are a few of them in my back yard -- I call them my "bear entrances."
I mean, living next door to the Ocala National Forest, you gotta expect this shit, and I've seen a number of bears in my neighborhood (and a couple in my yard). You just have to be, as they say, "bear aware."
This means you!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 19, 2025 12:22 PM |
R22 are you aware that an elderly man was recently killed by a bear IN HIS YARD, in your neck of the woods?
I'd be scared if I were you.

The covid lockdown not only saved human lives but gave a big boost to American urban wildlife. I'm not a huge fan of hunting myself but I do understand the value of having people around who are skilled and experienced in taking out megafauna like bear, wolves, big cats and alligators. I wouldn't care to attempt it myself.

We have black bears at our weekend place in The Laurentians. Only seen a few, closest I came was nearly hitting one as it ran across the road.
One neighbour was advising everyone to clean their BBQ grills as he witnessed a bear on his deck licking the grease from his.
We often see the traps. Big cylinders.
Another time I was with the dog on a short, well-traveled trail in the woods. At one point the dog started to get upset and clearly wanted us out of there his hair standing on end. He was agitated and vigilant for the rest of the day.

R23, are you [italic]trying[/italic] to piss me off?
Gee, I never knew bears could be deadly! I'm so glad you warned me!!
Secondly, the linked article is from Collier County, which is Naples, a five hour drive away from me here in the Ocala National Forest. Have you ever tried to read a map?
But I appreciate the effort it mast have taken for you to post this delightful tidbit of information.

The bear wasn't hardcore. Its victim, however... Either that or she visited the cannabis shop beforehand and popped some gummies.
Speaking with The New York Times, the owner of the store said that the bear ātackled my dog,ā but didnāt bite or scratch his pet.
āOne-hundred-twenty percent, there was something wrong with this bear,ā added Aaron Glading.
According to police, the Dollar General employee who remained on the line told police that the bear "made contact" with a 90-year-old woman, who was later taken to the hospital.
But, according to The New York Times, at first, she just kept on shopping.
Christine Flohr, who worked at a nearby cannabis shop, told the newspaper that she came by to see what was going on. After spotting the woman in the aisles, she tried to get her to leave.
āI told her, āThereās a bear in the store.ā She said, āI know, he swiped at me,ā ā Flohr told the outlet.

That town is quite wooded and rural, has 2 ski areas and an Appalachian trailhead. Bears are fairly common. There are sometimes hunts to thin out the population. It is in the northwest corner of the state, close to PA and upstate NY.

Hey, r22/senior lesbian, isn't this your neck of the woods? As much as I loathe guns and I'm scared of them, it seems prudent to have one around. Persistent bear.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 23, 2025 9:01 PM |
A beah. A cute widdle teddy beah.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 23, 2025 9:03 PM |
I misheard the broadcast. His previous two encounters were with different bears, not this one. Not persistent, definitely unlucky.

I forgot about another black bear incident when my sister's little terrier, a Toto lookalike named Coco, ran a black bear off the property. The wildlife officer told us black bears are mostly fearful, even of domestic cats. When they are not, something is wrong.
Apparently they eat a lot fish, frogs, toads.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 23, 2025 9:15 PM |
Not really, R42, but closer than Naples!
That's in Lake County, and I'm in Marion. But we're both full of bears.
And I have a small handgun (a Beretta .32) which, if I fire all the bullets and they all hit the bear, may or may not actually stop the bear. The nickname for these small handguns is "mouse guns." If I really want to stop a bear, I need at least a 9MM with a full magazine. And I'd need to be a damned good shot.
BTW, off topic, but it was on the local news today that Lake County is thinking about changing a street name to honor Charlie Kirk.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 23, 2025 9:53 PM |

I enjoyed this part:

I'm guessing that the woman got too close. If the dig was off leash, I could see it investigating, but otherwise, it shouldn't have been allowed to go near tge bear. Those people in teh video don't seem to be giving it a wide berth.
