Where to go on vacation if you like swimming in the sea?
Most of the ocean off the US is too cold for my liking even in the summer, including California. Florida has sharks. The Caribbean islands and the Tulum area used to be great but the beaches and sea are now choked with brown seaweed year round. The sea is too rough for swimming in Hawaii.
I've been to Greece, Turkey and Mallorca and the sea is ideal there - clear, warm, calm water that is often a stunning turquoise color, but it's too far to go every year.
Any suggestions?

Have you tried moving like Harlow in Monte Carlo?

You don't want to travel far but have crossed off any bodies of water close to the states. Not really sure what to tell you.

I don't remember Maui having rough seas.

Ever been to the Outer Banks? Granted, there is the occasional shark attack in the summer, but the water is not too rough and while not warm, it's not terribly cold either

Hawaii is swimmable depending on the island and trade winds.

Sydney. Although sharks biting you in half has become a problem lately.

Go the Lake Michigan. The Great Lakes are so big they might as well be freshwater seas, sometimes with big waves, but the beaches are sandy, seaweed-free, shark-free, and perfectly lovely.

[Quote] including California.
For future reference, California’s Pacific ocean water is much colder than the US east coast (below New England at least).

Lake Michigan water off Foster Beach in Chicago is about 66-67 degrees today. Not exactly freezing, but not warm enough for me either.

Northern Eastern Florida - Ormond Beach is very clean; watch out for rip currents. These are manageable, I remember my parents swimming laps on Ft Lauderdale Beach. Sharks are not a problem there.
Cuba has sharks, with around 54 different types identified. Bull sharks are especially dangerous as they swim near the shore. And, if you are into shark tourism (OMG what a way for Cheeto to go), there are many scary types of hammerhead sharks.

I hate Florida but the Gulf Coast - when the seaweed isnt present - is often ideally warm, placid and clean with nice beaches. St Pete, Sanibel, Naples.

I used to like Naples but haven't been in about 30 years.

It’s a long, long way to go, but I thought Amanpulo in the Philippines was one of the best private island resorts I’ve ever been to and had an amazing beach for swimming.

A lot of people seem to go swimming in Florida without being eaten by sharks.

Bermuda - beautiful beaches (Horseshoe Beach in particular), pink sand & smack dab in the middle of the warm Gulf Stream.
Manuel Antonio park on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica - idyllic beaches nestled in a nature reserve.
