What do you want for your soul after death?

This is a take off of the What do you want for your body after death? thread.

Okay lets assume you have a soul, not sure about some of you. Lets also assume that everyone has a soul, for you non believers so you can play along. What do want or expect will happen after you die. Some people believe you are greeted by all your deceased relatives, I sure hope not. Couple of them would be okay but there are ones I want nothing to do with.

A lot of Christians seem to think they will be sitting at the right hand of God, talk about delusions. Then there are Muslim men who think if they die in battle while fighting in Allah's cause, out of sincere belief, are promised entry into Paradise.

I am not at all religious, but sometimes I like to think there is something rather than nothing after death, since I am fast approaching that age.

I want to be greeted by the souls of every dog I've ever loved.

by Anonymousreply 1September 17, 2025 2:39 AM

None of your fucking business.

by Anonymousreply 2September 17, 2025 2:47 AM

Nothing.

Because that's all that there'll be after I take my last breath.

Nothing.

by Anonymousreply 3September 17, 2025 2:51 AM

You are given back your physical form, with any improvements you want to make, and then you can fuck anyone you ever wanted to fuck.

by Anonymousreply 4September 17, 2025 2:51 AM

I don't know, but the idea of 'floating' around- with no food, entertainment, sex, etc.- forever and ever and ever... is not my idea of Heaven.

by Anonymousreply 5September 17, 2025 2:54 AM

I've had several supernatural experiences in my life that have shaken me to my core and made it impossible for me to believe that the physical realm we experience is the only thing occurring here. I was raised Catholic-lite by my mother and that theology has been baked into who I am for better or worse. I'd like to think that I'd make it to heaven. I'd even settle for purgatory. In the end, though, I don't have any hardline religious beliefs and while I find the idea of the afterlife fascinating, it is difficult for me to really make up my mind about what it could be.

My mom is pretty much a blind believer, but I inherited my dad's skepticism of literally everything, so it often feels impossible for me to not analyze such matters and endlessly mull them over in my head. I've explored different religions and philosophies over the years—I really got into Buddhism in my early twenties, and in my early thirties I did a lot of studying on Judaism, more as some sort of ancestral fulfillment because my maternal great-grandfather had some Jewish blood and died in the Holocaust. Ultimately, I've never been able to fully commit to any of these theologies though. I often wish I had the kind of blind faith that seems to come easy to so many people, because I think my life would be a lot simpler.

Since nothing that I know of ever ceases to exist, it just takes on other forms, such as wood when burned turns into ashes and smoke, I find i t hard to believe that this inner being in all of us, ceases to exist once we die. Now it may take on some other form, that is totally not understandable by us, but it just seems like something of us has to go on. Why should our inner being cease to exist?

by Anonymousreply 8September 17, 2025 3:24 AM

R8 in what form did you exist before you were conceived?

by Anonymousreply 9September 17, 2025 3:25 AM

To go to the world's in my dreams, with love eminating and radiating out of everything. Ultimate trust and chillness, humor between all you interact with, sweet kind tender feelings of love, care, consideration, beauty radiating everywhere.

Then you're back here like ugh, it's like constant whiplash and jerky number car movements every interaction. Rudeness everywhere. I wish we could remember where we're all really from. I like to believe this world is just something we pass through on this trip, and there are so, so, so many more worlds. But not in a crazy weird fun house way. In a let's see what's out there and what we can create and do kinda way.

I'd also like to go to a funny Mel Brooks, George Carlin like heaven. A comedian heaven. And everyone gets to dress up and have parties like it's different decades or the roaring 20s. Everyone in formal wear, looking elegant and having a good time, celebrities all around and actually happy that you're around them, all the old time stars everyone. Everyone is cool and hanging out. You can be in this heaven or multiple other heavens and you talk and tell people about your other lives and other realms you've been to. You take this form and a billion others because you have infinite time. Something like that.

by Anonymousreply 10September 17, 2025 3:26 AM

I feel sorry for Eternity. Seriously. To never put down the weary load?

No Thanks

by Anonymousreply 11September 17, 2025 3:33 AM

R6 If you die and don't make it to heaven and I do, I'll come back and save you out a there. I'll plead with God and save you.

Because I don't think any good God would leave a soul in hell. God's got to have a purifying love light that makes all sinners weep with regret and sorrow for the pain they caused others.

Maybe there is an angel force out there that goes and gets tormented refusing souls to go to the light. In a movie, they'd probably trap them like in Ghost Busters, but I think they would just sing or something.

Actually I think is God is too big to let them stay like that very long. They feel the hug and cry for forgiveness and are changed. Plus human life is different from soul life. It's like if you did a stint as a roach and took your roach life seriously and then went back to human and we're like, wow. Did I really think it mattered that much? And you were worried roach God would send you to hell, an eternal damnation of no garbage or whatever roaches love. And you prayed the giant foot in the sky wouldn't smash you. And you just knew some of your roach buddies were in hell, because they sinned. It's silly.

Could you share them with us?

by Anonymousreply 14September 17, 2025 3:58 AM

It all sounds very crowded if everybody who ever lived and wasn't naughty ends up in heaven. Plus their pets.

by Anonymousreply 15September 17, 2025 4:03 AM

I?'d like to be reunited with my loved ones, including my dogs and cats. They populate my dreams and make my current life livable.

by Anonymousreply 16September 17, 2025 4:32 AM

R1 I've had the exact same fantasy!

by Anonymousreply 17September 17, 2025 4:45 AM

We all are made of "space dust". We all become space dust eventually again also. So I hope to be reused somewhere in the universe. Recyclable.

Highly unlikely to happen, R16.

by Anonymousreply 22September 17, 2025 5:58 AM

I've also had experiences with the supernatural, but I still find it very hard to believe in anything (or to care, for that matter).

by Anonymousreply 23September 17, 2025 6:14 AM

Ive had at least 3 supernatural events happen to me. I'd be up for hem being debunked but so far there's no explanation. I asked my mom for a white feather. I left the house to visit the funeral home and when I came home there was the white feather, about 2 feet in front of where I had sat when I asked for it. Never b4 or since have I ever found a feather in my house. Another time u returned from my friends funeral. I was in bed talking to him and there was a loud knock on my bedroom door. It wasn't in a rhythm it was knock knock....knock ..knock. I thought a friend, who usually let's himself in(he's like my kid brother) was about to enter. Another time, I couldn't find a friends grave, so after 20 mins of searching it began to rain. I said out loud, dont let me leave without finding you. A woman stood up, way across the graveyard(the only other person) so I ran over. We spoke and I asked if she had any clue where someone who died in a certain year might be buried. She didn't. As I went to leave her, my eye caught the gravestone im standing at, and it was my friend. The thing that these all have in common is that I spoke out loud each time, when talking to the deceased. Ive a few more also. So, I believe we come to earth, to grow as spiritual beings; like how some people do marathons or climb mountains when they cud be home eating pie. These beings go out of their comfort zone, to try out an earthly existence, in order to grow. There are various levels and some may choose the toughest level, which might mean a very difficult life to navigate. Then, when they're done (dead), they can stay where they are or go again to earth immediately or at a later time...or never again. There's more proof of reincarnation than heaven. Small kids who have detailed descriptions of past lives is a fascinating topic.

I want to re-absorbed by the Infinite.

by Anonymousreply 26September 17, 2025 10:58 AM

Here's my take on the makeup of us humans. We are 3 parts. Mind, body, & soul. Our bodies do certain things without the input of our minds, at times. For most people the mind steps in when we're about to do something bad or stupid. For some people the mind is defective not only doesn't stop them from doing bad or wrong but encourages it. But the soul of every human being is good and has no active participation of what our minds and bodies do. So when the mind and body dies and the soul separates it goes wherever souls go to. I don't necessarily believe in a Biblical Heaven or Hell, but I do believe the soul moves onto a different plain once the body and mind cease to function. Where or what that plain is, I have no idea. But seeing as I am in my 70s I'll likely find out a lot sooner than many of you. If death is an absolute finality and there is nothing after death I guess it won't matter.

Pretty much what I think will happen— cessation, liberation from being in 1 body, dissolution and expansion out into the universe, becoming nothing and nowhere yet a little bit of everything everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 29September 17, 2025 11:20 AM

Soul music

by Anonymousreply 30September 17, 2025 11:46 AM

My body will be reabsorbed into the elements. My consciousness will disappear. There is no way to avoid ego death. Even if we could transmit our memories into a vessel of some king that worked like brain. It would not be your brain, with its configuration. The two are tied together - your new 'brain' will think differently, interpret memories differently.

Besides, do you want to be 500 years old. Remember W.B Yeats

I THOUGHT no more was needed Youth to polong Than dumb-bell and foil To keep the body young. O who could have foretold That the heart grows old?

To be young again!

by Anonymousreply 34September 17, 2025 2:19 PM

After physically existing on earth for decades, I look forward to several things in the spirit realm. The world is a devastatingly, unyieldingly deceptive place. After being forced to navigate all this deception all my life, I very, very strongly look forward to being able to merely THINK of a thing to make the absolute truth and fact of that thing unfold for me in the blink of an eye.

by Anonymousreply 35September 17, 2025 6:31 PM

I do want to haunt a house. Sounds like fun. Not forever, just a few years, especially if MAGAts move in.

Otherwise, I want to see my family. I want to walk downstairs and see my family sitting at the breakfast table. I want to see my grandparents again. I want to see my college friend who died and take a road trip.

I have really big issues with the concept of heaven and hell. Even if it is nothing, if you just stop, it's not going to matter. You're dead.

by Anonymousreply 36September 17, 2025 7:07 PM

I want every day to be Saturday morning and I'm at my apt at the beach-

There is always so much hope on Saturday AM, I go for my run and I have my wine to look forward to in the evening-- And until Sunday, everything seems so hopeful.

I don't want anything but HOPE- I don't want to create /manifest anything, I just want the feeling of hope and anticipation of which an outcome never materializes.
