"The bankruptcy is not just upending the finances of people who had been promised continued riches; it’s eroding a part of America’s popular culture."

Let's not go overboard here, CNN

Ed McMahon says that I may owe HIM $10 million dollars!?

by Anonymousreply 4September 16, 2025 7:47 PM

… and that’s why you always take the cash lump sum if it’s an option!

I do kind of badly for those “lucky” randos who quit their jobs etc and believed that PCH would always exist and always send them their prize installments.

Always take the lump sum, but I don't think these guys had a choice. (Could be wrong.) I think the 5000/week for life folks received their money in annual payments. Still, they should have invested as much as they could each year. Why people would trust them to be around forever is beyond me.

One less bell to answer ...

No more practicing my surprised look when answering the front door. The end of an era.

Cannot pass up the opportunity to once again tell the long-ago story of the couple - clearly having run out of things to argue about - getting into a heated fight about whether or not they would take a lump sum PCH payment in the most unlikely event they ever won. The fight culminated in one of the partners shooting the other.

Super shitty for the winners who now get nothing. I don’t know why they’re bothering to keep the sweepstakes going after this. Who would even bother or care?

by Anonymousreply 9September 16, 2025 10:15 PM

You! may already be a loser!

Thank God these people will still have social security to fall back on. Oh. Right.
