Now, a dedicated few are working to save these cardboard treasures from extinction.
Decades ago, singles were printed on cereal boxes as cutout prizes.

They had poor sound quality. I'd be surprised if you can still make out what's being sung after all these years.

I remember these as a kid. I had a few of them, but they got messed up over the years. They don't stand up to too many repeat plays, especially if you have a cheap portable record player with worn out needle. About 3 years ago I looked them up on Ebay and I ended up buying a couple of Archie singles just to have as a memento.

I think the Mad magazine flexi records had better sound quality.

Pretty soon that’s all the music we’ll be allowed to listen to.

Thanks, OP; my partner and I found this very interesting. I remember having the Count Choculla/Frakenberry/Booberry, the Bobby Sherman, and the Jackson Five.

Very interesting article, r3. I vaguely remember getting these with cereal in the 1970s but can't recall any specific titles. I'm surprised more vinyl collectors aren't curious about these but I suppose bubblegum music and children's records aren't big draws for hipster vinylhounds

Sometimes in the grocery store I would take the cereal boxes off the shelf and scratch the records.

I had the Partridge Family I Think I Love Youbefore the show even started.

The Bobby Sherman "record" was on the back of some awful Dlist cereal. I think it was Honeycomb.
After annoying our mother to the point of submission we finally won. The victory was short lived.
Her revenge was we had to finish the box of cereal before we could cut out the record from the box. It was awful.
She's dead now of course but the scars remain.

Shingles on shereal boxshes? What will they think of nexsht?

Hadn’t thought of this in decades. Our mother forbade “sugar cereals” so there were only a few for me, but I remember one that featured haunted-house sounds.

I remember this well. I had a cardboard single of The Monkees' "Last Train to Clarksville" that I cut out of the back of an Alpha Bits box when I was a kid. I played it constantly.

It was Alpha Bits! Thank you r14. They were like eating rocks.
