FTR, my old roommate at UConn was a football player. He went on to UConn School of Dentistry (19th in the country) and his DDS degree from Columbia. He recently achieved a distinction in his field that only 72 people on the world qualified for.

He wasn't alone. I lived in the "jock" dorm (the main one anyway). My best male friend from HS also lived in my dorm, he was number four in our class. Many of the football players in my dorm were quite intelligent and went on to get their degrees without tutors, and do very well career-wise. However, our football team sucked.
