Season 5 will be the final season
by Anonymous | reply 76 | September 17, 2025 10:55 PM |
That’s fine. I’m tired of it.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 15, 2025 12:04 AM |
Love this show. I will be sad to see it go, but will be okay with it if they go out on a high note.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 15, 2025 12:05 AM |
I rather it go out on a high.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 15, 2025 12:06 AM |
Yeah it’s good they don’t wanna overstay their welcome
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 15, 2025 12:19 AM |
Pay, it’s all about pay and ratings. I LOVE the show but the past season’s writing was shaky and a few supporting actors got too big for their britches.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 15, 2025 12:26 AM |
I don't understand the words she is saying.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 15, 2025 1:07 AM |
Good can she please go away
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 15, 2025 1:36 AM |
Tried to watch the first episode. Didn't like it.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 15, 2025 1:39 AM |
Good. Her career will end with it.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 15, 2025 12:03 PM |
Good round number. I think they’ve done everything they could to keep the Deborah and Ava characters together and the final season is going to start showing the strain of that.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 15, 2025 12:21 PM |
The last season was barely watchable. Maybe Deborah Vance will die in the series finale.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 15, 2025 12:22 PM |
Einbinder's "Ava Daniels" was a real buzz kill in that first season. (Much like last night's Emmy speech.) If Smart and other supporting characters hadn't been so wonderful, might have stopped watching. Glad I didn't as she grew on me or at least became less obnoxious. Have come to love the show over these four seasons. I'd be happy for more than a fifth final season.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 15, 2025 12:23 PM |
OP hasn't been reading the Hacks threads from the last few seasons here if they think that the gays are going to be mourning the end of this show. They've been calling for it for many years now.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 15, 2025 12:28 PM |
I love her hair colour. There, I said something nice.
Nah, kidding, she took a while to grow on me due to her kind of amateurish speaking style but I can’t fault her characterisation.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 15, 2025 12:42 PM |
Good. I’m sure Jean was ready to stop. I’m sure Hannah thinks she’s going to have a big career, post Emmy. She’s not.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 15, 2025 12:50 PM |
Hacks was clearly a fluke in her career and it obviously hasn’t opened up any doors. Take a look at her IMDb page, even with her having appeared on Hacks over the last four years she has nothing else on her resume. BUH bye, bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 15, 2025 1:08 PM |
I only found out yesterday that Hannah is Larraine Newman's daughter. I'm guessing she looks like her father
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 15, 2025 1:12 PM |
I thought it was excited for season 4, but after one episode(which i liked), I found myself choosing other stuff instead. Then I re watched episode 1, season 4, and kept going. It really is one of the best shows around. The 2 leads are stunning and actually have sexual chemistry on screen that is palpable.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 15, 2025 1:23 PM |
Jean can't physically do the show anymore. She's had multiple health issues over the past 3 years and is looking frail.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 15, 2025 1:44 PM |
Season 4 was an irritating mess and Hannah the nepo-baby didn’t help things by ratcheting up the annoyance level to 11. It should end now.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 15, 2025 2:28 PM |
The creator said a long time ago that the show had a five year plan and that would be it. Not sure if he said because HBO already gave them advance notice or if he really would have ended it then. You never know what guides those PR interviews. Maybe it's Jean Smart not wanting to commit to a role longer term. Who knows... Either way, the ending was known well ahead of time.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 15, 2025 2:38 PM |
I love the show, but five seasons is enough.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 15, 2025 2:42 PM |
The last season was the first one I didn't finish. It really felt like they were out of ideas.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 15, 2025 3:07 PM |
Last season was annoying with Megan Stalter's bigger presence and the addition of Robby Hoffman. Also, I think ratings weren't great for season 4. And Just Like That had better ratings and it was canceled.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 15, 2025 3:13 PM |
Stalter brings any episode crashing down the minute she enters a scene, yet they insist on giving her more screen time, when she, and Hahn on the Studio, have to be the most obnoxious female characters on any show in tv or streaming history.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 15, 2025 3:20 PM |
They are either running out of ideas or.....
....this is sort of what happened to Downton Abbe, where they had to tread water in seasons 4 and 5 to fill up time, until season 6 arrived and they could have the inevitable finale and final clash of Mary/Edith, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 15, 2025 3:27 PM |
If I had a time machine that I could use to go back into the past to alter the present, preventing this show from being made would be somewhere on my list.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 15, 2025 3:51 PM |
What she means is her role is ending with season five
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 15, 2025 3:53 PM |
Seasons 1, 2, and 3 were great. Season 4 was a SLOG to get through. Too much Kayla. I hope the first episode begins with news that Kayla was kidnapped by a cannibalistic cult and never heard from again. Then, Season 5 can begin with the focus on more important, more interesting, better-developed characters and relationships.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 15, 2025 4:07 PM |
I think the show needs Robby Hoffman, she improved the scenes she was in. Get rid of Statler.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 15, 2025 4:15 PM |
Isn’t she yet another nepo baby? Nobody asked her anything.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 15, 2025 5:42 PM |
R19 That’s my concern. Jean walks like Annie Potts now. I wonder if she’s going to fade out from acting and just enjoy her money.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 15, 2025 6:47 PM |
I can’t believe she won at all. Let alone for the shows weakest season yet.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 15, 2025 6:59 PM |
That was the show's weakest season but Ava's strongest season.
Jean was solid as always but I didn't feel that it was her strongest year. The goodwill she had those first few years seemed to be dissipating last night.....very muted reaction to her win.
But most of this season was just lather/rinse/repeat. The Ava/Deborah conflict and the last few episodes were strongest, but they're kinda hitting the same notes over and over now.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 15, 2025 7:17 PM |
R33 she said she was recovering from a broken knee during her acceptance speech
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 15, 2025 7:25 PM |
The broken knee kept her offstage this summer for several weeks when she was on Broadway.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 15, 2025 7:27 PM |
Plus I don’t believe Jean has had multiple health issues through the years like the above poster said. It takes a special stamina to film a series. Is she a spring chicken anymore? No. But I wouldn’t be surprised after Hacks ends to see her in other things. I think she enjoys working and being in demand.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 15, 2025 7:41 PM |
R38 She had heart surgery recently - it delayed the filming of Season 3. So yeah, if not "multiple" health issues, she's had at least one major one.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 15, 2025 7:48 PM |
[quote]OP hasn't been reading the Hacks threads from the last few seasons here if they think that the gays are going to be mourning the end of this show. They've been calling for it for many years now.
R13, not the OP here, but assume they were referring to gays born AFTER Stonehenge. Of course the ancients hate it. They hate everyone who wasn't a guest on Match Game or a guest star on Love Boat.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 15, 2025 7:49 PM |
I can’t wait to see what Hannah does after the show ends. She’s so talented and now an Emmy winner
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 15, 2025 7:53 PM |
I tried to watch her stand up show once. I woke up two days later wondering where I was. I thank her for helping me quit Ambien.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 15, 2025 7:54 PM |
R41 is Laraine Newman.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 15, 2025 7:54 PM |
Jean Smart has been a type 1 diabetic for over 60 years. There's no way that hasn't taken its toll. I'm surprised she's still alive and healthy enough to have accomplished what she has.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 15, 2025 7:58 PM |
I’m fine with Hacks being gone. Please take The Bear along with it.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 15, 2025 8:04 PM |
[quote]Pay, it’s all about pay and ratings. I LOVE the show but the past season’s writing was shaky and a few supporting actors got too big for their britches.
I'll agree that last season had WAAAAAY too much Kayla, but the more realistic reason to stop now is because the genre it's lampooning *literally* just started dying off IRL. On the show this is assumed as a given in the long run, but with Colbert being shitcanned in such a grotesque fashion, I think the show would've needed to end after one more season even if that *wasn't* the original plan.
And yeah, last season was kind of a slog. Deborah & Ava made it to the top – problem being that the daily grind of putting out a late-night talk show doesn't yield as many comedic opportunities as one might think.
R19, Jean doesn't look any more "frail" than other actresses her age – she was still more than fit enough for the mildly strenuous acts on her late-night show, and she specifically noted on stage that she broke her knee.
R45, I think both "The Bear" and "Hacks" have planned for five seasons – and no more – the whole time. And with good reason: there are limits to how much plot you can pull out of a setup, and both shows are running low on it.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 15, 2025 8:11 PM |
[quote]R40 Of course the ancients hate it. They hate everyone who wasn't a guest on Match Game or a guest star on Love Boat.
Well…. Hacks WOULD have been better with Brett Somers and Debralee Scott. That’s just the obvious truth!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 15, 2025 8:28 PM |
R46 You are absolutely correct. The problem with many of these shows, including several that ran for many seasons, is that they run out of steam (creativity) after three seasons. Then they retool the plot lines, get silly or lose the thread of romantic tension. Even the comedy most people seem to love, Seinfeld, was awful after Larry David left and Jerry Seinfeld became executive producer. The first three seasons of Big Bang were brilliant, then they introduced the girlfriends and the show sucked, despite the higher ratings.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 15, 2025 8:35 PM |
We didn’t overstay our welcome.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 15, 2025 8:37 PM |
Great show. Jean Smart is a national treasure.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 15, 2025 9:16 PM |
Hack writers: Please write a guest role for Delta Burke in 'Hacks.'. It would be so great to see Jean and Delta working together again.
Then Delta can win an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 15, 2025 9:17 PM |
Or write a guest role for Annie.
As much as I'd love to see Delta again I don't think she is up to it. Sadly.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 15, 2025 9:32 PM |
EXACTLY, R48! That's why I appreciate shows like "Andor" that launch with a very explicit "we need two, and only two, seasons to tell this story, and there is zero chance it will continue."
FAR too many limited series – clearly intended as such – end up being "extended" solely due to ratings. "Big Little Lies" was the first, and admittedly leveled-up in unprecedented fashion by bringing on a FOURTH Oscar-winning actress – but S2 was still mostly a mess, and David E. Kelley fell back on his hack legal-writing shit.
The worst of the bunch – and possibly the worst streaming show EVER – was "And Just Like That...", which was also initially a limited series converted into a full-time one. We all saw the all-too-literal shitshow it devolved into.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 15, 2025 9:55 PM |
AJLT was never a limited series
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 15, 2025 9:57 PM |
Well, it was mentally limited.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 15, 2025 10:04 PM |
Every show has a beginning and an end.
'Meet The Press' is the only show that never ends.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 15, 2025 10:59 PM |
The best thing about Hacks season 4 is Lauren Weedman as Mayor Jo
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 16, 2025 12:40 AM |
R57 - Lauren Weedman is such a hoot. She was a standout in 'Looking', too!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 16, 2025 6:03 AM |
[quote] As much as I'd love to see Delta again I don't think she is up to it. Sadly.
Why? Has she ballooned?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 16, 2025 6:11 AM |
Lauren Weedman was also a standout in SIRENS!
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 16, 2025 1:52 PM |
I agree about Lauren Weedman. I love her as Mayor Jo, such a great comedic actress.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 16, 2025 9:02 PM |
The premise had a limited shelf life.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 16, 2025 9:06 PM |
Hannah Einbinder is never going to get another high profile gig like Hacks again, so hopefully she saved and invested well.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 16, 2025 9:07 PM |
How did she even get the lead role in the first place? Average looks and had no resume prior to Hacks.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 16, 2025 9:15 PM |
[quote]Of course the ancients hate it. They hate everyone who wasn't a guest on Match Game or a guest star on Love Boat.
Hacks is the show that had Randy Newman as Deborah's first guest on her talk show, right?
Might want to rethink that comment, dear.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 16, 2025 9:24 PM |
I’ve tried to watch that show so many times. I love Jean Smart. I just can’t get into it whatsoever - Einbender is unlikeable and ruins every scene she’s in. Her career will be over when Hacks ends.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 16, 2025 10:14 PM |
The first season was a true diamond. The last season was a Zirconia.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 16, 2025 10:46 PM |
Season 4 was not nearly as good as Season 3. Probably best to just do one more season.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 16, 2025 11:32 PM |
I’m tempted to think Jimmy and Kayla are starting to eat the show.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 16, 2025 11:36 PM |
Mayor / Lauren Weedman podcast R56 R57 R59 R61
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 17, 2025 12:03 AM |
Am I the only one who likes Einbinder on the show? I think she's excellent. I can see her having a successful TV career after Hacks ends.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 17, 2025 12:08 AM |
I like Einbinder, too. I liked her standup special.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 17, 2025 12:11 AM |
All the Free Palestine fools are so ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 17, 2025 9:40 PM |
I'd love to see this dumb bitch take a tour of Gaza. Hamas would throw her bisexual, Jewish ass off the nearest rooftop, gang rape her for good measure, and then fondle her mutilated tits.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 17, 2025 10:51 PM |
