Charlie Kirk’s Legacy Deserves No Mourning

The white Christian nationalist provocateur wasn’t a promoter of civil discourse. He preached hate, bigotry and division.

Charles James Kirk, 31, died last Wednesday from a gunshot to the neck at a Utah Valley University campus event just as he was trying to deflect a question about mass shootings by suggesting they were largely a function of gang violence. He died with a net worth of $12 million, which he made by espousing horrific and bigoted views in the name of advancing Christian nationalism.

Kirk was able to launch Turning Point at the age of 18 because he received money from Tea Party member Bill Montgomery, right-wing donor Foster Feiss, and his own father, also a prolific right-wing donor. He was an unrepentant racist, transphobe, homophobe, and misogynist who often wrapped his bigotry in Bible verses because there was no other way to pretend that it was morally correct. He had children, as do many vile people.

But Kirk’s actions undercut that notion every day. His entire business was saying the other side was evil and dehumanizing them. The debates were simply performances, and he could not have an entertaining public fight without opposition.

Turning Point did not work to bring people together; it worked to bring about a country where anyone who wasn’t a white Christian nationalist wasn’t welcome. I won’t celebrate his death, but I’m not obligated to celebrate his life, either.

I’ve been doing my Snoopy dance at least once a day since I read he was dead. Sorry not sorry…

by Anonymousreply 3September 14, 2025 8:55 PM

I feel nothing at all about his death. Considering he said empathy was stupid, my reaction is appropriate.

I wonder if anyone has seen the video where Kirk takes apart a homophobe who says Kirk can't be a Christian if he "accepts" gay people. I never even heard of the guy before but I admire his courage to get up and debate in public and IMO his response to this college kid was admirable.

Op, you are doing what they want. Stop discussing this evil creature.

^^OP is telling the truth.

Dwayne Johnson's (the Rock) daughter Raine said: “If you want people to have kind words when you pass, you should say kind words while you’re alive.”

Oh, the outrage! Most of the tweets I read agreed with her, but ooeeeee, some people are slamming her. Her comment seems pretty tame to me.

Karma is a bitch and so was Charlie.

by Anonymousreply 9September 15, 2025 2:27 PM

R6: No, more people need to know the type of bigotry and division he spread throughout his life.

by Anonymousreply 10September 15, 2025 2:31 PM

Hisi videos are so cherry picked and heavily edited. I keep asking myself who is stupid enough to be entertained or "enlightened" by this? And then his fans starting crawling out of the woodwork and I understood

by Anonymousreply 11September 15, 2025 2:38 PM

R5, you missed the videos where Kirk calls homosexuality "an error"

He was a homophobe

by Anonymousreply 12September 15, 2025 2:42 PM

You shouldn't speak ill of the dead.

Ok, then I have no comments about Charlie Kirk.

R12, I watched some of his vids over the weekend, & I’m not writing what I’m about to write to in order to hurt anyone or cause division

The above stated, I assessed that Charlie definitely pinged.

I wonder why people of means, including his father, decided to kick this movement off when Charlie was only 18?

Was it to give him purpose, because he had dropped out of college, and/or, was it to circumvent something within him, that they refused to accept, and by extension, he chose to not accept it as well?

I once lived next door to this ultra conservative couple, whose youngest son was a very sweet, sensitive soul. He always sought me out in order to chat, & share with me what challenges he was facing as a teen at school, at home. He always spoke about how mercurial his father was, even violent at times. He couldn’t understand why his mom wouldn’t leave the man, since his mom actually had money & means to leave him.

The old man would go into the yard every night, and spend at minimum 1 half hour to an hour, shooting his rifle or gun, & no one ever said anything about it because the father was a cop.

The kid had no say nor autonomy, and if he wanted to assert himself, it was war. As soon as he turned 18, he was outta there, & would visit his mom while his father was at work, then he’d stop by to catch up with me, & he was elated to be on his own.

He was a very bright young man, & had he been born into a normal, loving family, he may have gone to college, & become a veterinarian, which is what he wanted, but that wasn’t his path at that time, because he came from a family where his own father saw him as a threat and as someone to beat down into submission, rather than nurturing him, and supporting him in his dreams and endeavors.

It was heartbreaking to see it all unfold, and sadly, I too can attest that when one comes from an conservative/authoritarian styled family, it’s all about getting out asap and surviving, instead of flourishing and thriving.

Perhaps this is what Kirk hailed from, as well.

Again, I’m not writing this to hurt anyone. I’m writing this because I have excellent gaydar, and I picked up on it, video after video.

Perhaps I’m way off base. Heck, I’m probably wrong, but I don’t think so.

by Anonymousreply 14September 15, 2025 3:29 PM

No self respecting gay man would have hair like that. But you're probably spot on with the authoritarian father

by Anonymousreply 15September 15, 2025 3:41 PM

R15, I come from an era where in my youth, I hung out with classmates who decades later, divorced their wives as soon as the kids went off to college, and finally came out.

Gen X wasn’t free of bearding. It’s so much better & different now, but it took a REALLY long time for this current generation to be more at ease with what they want and who they are.

He was a cunt
