The really fucked up part about the Jobs thing is that his doctor cried tear of joys in the call to Jobs when he found out what type of pancreatic cancer he had because it was the extremely rare type of pancreatic cancer that is slow growing. Jobs would likely still be alive today if he hadn't pursued his alternative therapy nonsense and gotten surgery asap. I can't imagine being his doctor and knowing that this guy that everyone fawned over basically killed himself with pseudoscience.

My first cousin, who was 21 years older than I, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the early-mid '70s when she was in her mid-30s. She had the same type Jobs had, and luckily lived in Waco, and her surgeon performed an experimental modified Whipple procedure on her.

She was in remission over 30 years, and after the cancer finally returned, died at 65 in 2009. She and her husband had been able to have a daughter, and have that daughter grow up to be a respected university administrator.

But my cousin respected and believed in science, not in her own infallibility.
