Man Arrested On Suspicion of Killing Elderly N.Y.C. Couple, Setting Their Home on Fire: Police
According to CNN, Tisch alleged at a news conference that McGriff, 42, used a ruse to get into Frank and Maureen Olton's home in the Bellrose neighborhood, where security footage purportedly showed he stayed for about five hours before re-emerging. The homeowners, both in their 70s, denied him entry at first but he's later seen entering the couple's backyard, the outlet reported.
Tisch further claimed that McGriff had been going door-to-door in the neighborhood asking to charge his phone, a request investigators believe he made to the Oltons that morning, the Associated Press reported.
Fifteen minutes after McGriff was seen leaving the home with two bags in his hand, the couple's home went up in flames, the New York Times reported, citing police officials. Officers who responded to the scene by 3:30 p.m. found Maureen severely burned on the first floor and Frank stabbed and tied to a pole in the basement, per the Times.

Their 1st mistake was not being armed. Their 2nd mistake was opening the door to him. Their 3rd mistake was even thinking that the world hasnt gone to shit around them since they were young. I had to break my elderly mother of answering the phone and telling the caller anything they asked. I also had to break her of opening the door to anyone other than family or friends. I hate that it has to be that way but its reality.

Isn’t it obvious. That McGriff simply discovered the bodies after only breaking in to rob the place. You see right before they answered the door they had swallowed cyanide laced excedrin pills. The burglar simply panicked he would be blame for the crimes in Trump 2. 0 America and ignited the fire. The real culprit was their 19yr old grandson who had become a right wing zealot and it was revenge for kicking his violet dad out of the house who then Oded on heroin. The trial is very dramatic.

OMG DA Alvin Bragg won't have jurisdiction on this one, so maybe bail will be set.

Read again. The grifter tried several times to gain access to other victims homes, these poor people were too trusting and opened the door.
Put a camera on your door and if you have to answer the door, use the intercom.

This country is done. I honestly don’t think there’s any going back.

R11 yea because crimes like this didn’t happen in the 70s. 🙄Actually they happened more often then. My Catholicism prevents me from believing in the death penalty but if he is found guilty I know some goons in Harlem they could save state some money on a trial.

I, too, oppose the death penalty. But for the life of me I cannot understand why this murderer was not put away permanently based on his criminal history. (I’ve copied and pasted the following from the ABC-tv website.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
McGriff, described by police as a career criminal, is a level 3 sex offender with a lengthy criminal record stretching 30 years. He was released from prison in 2023.
McGriff served 16 years in prison for an armed robbery and is wanted in two more armed robberies this summer.
"He has 17 priors, he has numerous robbery arrests, he is on parole for robbery, he is known to do commercial robberies," NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said. "And in one incidence, he did a commercial robbery where he sexually abused an employee. He was arrested for robbery not soon after that one. And that's that's why he is on parole."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
> a level three sex offender?
> thirty years of committing crimes?
> multiple times armed robberies?
Can anyone here - a lawyer, a judge, someone who works in law enforcement - explain why someone with this kind of criminal background was free to murder these old people? I just don’t get it.
On top of that, he not only admits to killing this elderly Queens couple, he says he “doesn’t care.” Is it actually possible that he’ll serve some more time and yet be out on the streets again after that?
Who the fuck is in charge?

^^^^^ I just want to add that PRIOR to these killings (where it seems likely that he burned the house down while the wife was alive), he had ELEVEN criminal convictions. Four of those were for violent felonies.
Is there NO limit to the number of felonies a criminal is allowed to commit before we say he needs to be put away for life?

R13 Because he served 16 fucking years and didn’t murder anyone. We don’t just lock people up for life in this country for theft even armed. He’s just a fucking sociopath that was gna get more and more dangerous. Every homeowner should own a gun. You know as long the homeowner himself isn’t mentally ill or a former predicate felon. What we could do is make it that anyone who commits a third felony, and if that felony is a violent crime, which armed robbery is, they must serve a minimum of 30 years because then maybe they’d know how to get out of prison and act rite.

Oh, hell, even if they had a gun they'd probably completely forget where they put it and spend 30 minutes rooting around the house asking, was it here, was it there? Found it! Now, where are those damn bullets? The answer cannot be, give everyone a gun and hope for the best.

The idea of having a gun to kill someone else is fantastical. It’s 90%+ more likely to kill you or a loved one than an intruder. The highest correlation to gun ownership is…..suicide rates.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 15, 2025 12:35 AM

R17 are you saying owning a gun makes one more suicidal. Those with suicidal ideation or a borderline personality diagnosis probably should not own a gun.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 15, 2025 12:38 AM

The correlation is if you become severely depressed/suicidal, owning a gun will increase exponentially your chances of actually killing yourself. Because it’s quick, easy - and the most effective method of accomplishing the goal. Without a gun, the methods are much more complicated and much less successful - and the delay is what saves lives.
Similarly with domestic violence - it takes those same emotions and exponentially increases the chances of someone being killed because of them. If there is no gun around when a couple fight, the chances of an irrationally angry and vengeful person killing the object of their affection/hate is dramatically less.
