Let's Remember Mark Bingham

He along with 3 other brave men helped to take control over flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001. Oh yeah, he was gay too. May he RIP.

Some Heroes don't wear glitter capes.❤️

by Anonymousreply 1September 10, 2025 3:07 PM

He was a beefcake rugby player.

And no, you queens, that doesn't mean he was "too fat to fuck."

by Anonymousreply 2September 10, 2025 3:09 PM

I used to see him at the gym I went to. I had a major crush on him. Big, beefy, but friendly and a sweet teddy bear.

by Anonymousreply 3September 10, 2025 3:14 PM

A true hero for all Americans. May he RIP.

by Anonymousreply 4September 10, 2025 3:38 PM

His mom Alice used to go on The Today Show on 9/11 anniversaries and she was a total dear. He seemed like such a fantastic guy- and clearly he was a hero as well.

by Anonymousreply 5September 10, 2025 4:27 PM

Thanks for making me cry, OP.

And now I have to go to an eye doctor appointment.

by Anonymousreply 6September 10, 2025 4:42 PM

The government was using him as a model for 9/11 hero. The second it came out that he was gay, they dropped him fast

by Anonymousreply 7September 10, 2025 4:43 PM

How has it been 24 hears? I remember it like was yesterday. Mark was a courageous man. There's no telling how many people's lives were saved that day as a result of the actions of those onboard flight 93.

by Anonymousreply 8September 10, 2025 4:44 PM

What about me???

by Anonymousreply 9September 10, 2025 4:45 PM

how exactly did they "drop" him, r7?

by Anonymousreply 10September 10, 2025 4:52 PM

R10, they totally stopped talking about his heroism

by Anonymousreply 11September 10, 2025 5:15 PM

a true hero. But complicated. A friend who lived in SanFran in the late 90s claimed he was sort of a closet case and who would stalk guys he would hit on.

by Anonymousreply 12September 10, 2025 5:22 PM

I have r10 blocked. You should too!

by Anonymousreply 13September 10, 2025 5:25 PM

I’m not sure I believe that Flight 93 story. It would be like the government to take that plane out and then make it palatable to the families to create a scenario like that .

by Anonymousreply 14September 10, 2025 7:27 PM

R7 John McCain frequently mentioned Mark Bingham and the fact that he was gay and a hero.

by Anonymousreply 15September 11, 2025 12:46 AM

Politics aside, John McCain was a decent guy.

by Anonymousreply 16September 11, 2025 12:58 AM

He was president of my fraternity chapter (we call chapters “alphas”). The fraternity sponsors a run in his name every summer at the national convention.

Berkeley honored him by naming an important alumni award for him.

R11 no, they did not.

by Anonymousreply 18September 11, 2025 1:31 AM

You may recognize Olympic champions, government officials and well-regarded scientists on the list of those honored in his memory.

by Anonymousreply 19September 11, 2025 1:34 AM

I’ve posted this before, but I read an article about flight 93 not long after 9/11 that asserted that what was remarkable about them was not simply their physical bravery, but their ability to take in new information during a crisis and choose an course of action that was counter to the accepted practice of obeying highjackers’ instruction. It resonated with me and I will always think of them as epitomes of heroism (can you have more than one epitome?).

by Anonymousreply 20September 11, 2025 2:10 AM

You drank the kool-aid^^

by Anonymousreply 21September 11, 2025 3:29 AM

He was no Brigham Young.

by Anonymousreply 23September 11, 2025 3:38 AM

Let's remember him, instead of the vile Charlie Kirk

by Anonymousreply 24September 11, 2025 5:40 AM

The question is-

Would a this generation do the same thing today? Remember, no smartphones or WiFi on board, and only analog cellphones that wouldn’t have been able to connect that far above ground. No TikTok, Google or Facebook to delve into,

They’d actually have to look each other in the face and make instantaneous independently struck, selfless decisions.

I’m not even sure I could.

by Anonymousreply 25September 11, 2025 7:52 AM

I believe the official story when it comes to 9/11 except for TWO things.

I think Building 7 was pulled (but probably for safety reasons) and I think this flight was shot down and this story of heroism was almost entirely fabricated by the government (with an assist from the families, who want to believe the story for obvious reasons).

by Anonymousreply 26September 11, 2025 8:14 AM

I think you’re an idiot. Actually I’m quite confident of that.

R25 you had pay phones built into seatbacks in those days.

by Anonymousreply 27September 11, 2025 10:07 AM

Passengers on 94 knew there had already been multiple highjackings and attacks….

by Anonymousreply 28September 11, 2025 10:08 AM

R26, it’s not inconceivable that the plane was shot down or there was a plan to shoot it down AND they engaged in the actions that they did. For me, it doesn’t matter exactly what cause the plane to crash and I believe they acted as reported. They had cell phones and were communicating. It would be hard to have multiple families make up accounts counter to the truth and stick to their stories. Also, don’t forget what it was like in the aftermath. All anyone was doing was looking for information and passing on whatever they had heard. The people they communicated with would have told other people immediately. There would not have been time to send handlers and avoid that.

R20

by Anonymousreply 29September 11, 2025 10:42 AM

@ (R25) I was thinking about that too. A bunch of Millennials and Gen Z with their man buns and skinny jeans stuck to their phones? Naw, they wouldn't pull it off.

by Anonymousreply 30September 11, 2025 1:40 PM

They had phones—they knew their situation, as the last flight of the four that were highjacked.

Did they teach you Gen Zs nothing?

by Anonymousreply 31September 11, 2025 1:55 PM

❤️❤️❤️

Oh, and fuck you MAGA

by Anonymousreply 32September 11, 2025 2:15 PM

[Quote] no, they did not.

They actually did stop talking about him once it came out that he was gay. This is why no one knows his name now. He’s never brought up at annual memorials

by Anonymousreply 33September 11, 2025 3:42 PM

We know the “Let’s Roll” comment attributed to him was actually about a rolling cart, not about starting action against terrorists

by Anonymousreply 34September 11, 2025 3:43 PM

A gay man saved Gerald Ford from assassination, but once they found out he was a cock-smoker, they dropped him completely. He died forgotten and in poverty.

by Anonymousreply 35September 11, 2025 3:44 PM

Eldergay at r30 using a man's death to bash "millennials"

Will you point out that Gen X was the age group most likely to support Trump?

This poster should be kicked off of the site. Has he even ever been there?

by Anonymousreply 37September 11, 2025 6:06 PM

I’m sure the families were paid handsomely to accept and support the scenario.

by Anonymousreply 38September 11, 2025 6:08 PM

There was a Flight 94 too?

by Anonymousreply 39September 11, 2025 6:46 PM

R36 Uh, I'm not an eldergay. I'm a straight woman thank you very much. Trish is short for Tricia.

by Anonymousreply 40September 11, 2025 7:08 PM

Sorry, I should have said Elderly Hag instead.

by Anonymousreply 41September 11, 2025 7:09 PM

He was cute, I would’ve jumped his bones back then but was too busy trying to find a job in NYC

by Anonymousreply 42September 11, 2025 7:41 PM

R40 But according to your coworkers and ex-husbands, it's also short for CUNT

by Anonymousreply 43September 11, 2025 7:49 PM

[quote]We know the “Let’s Roll” comment attributed to him was actually about a rolling cart, not about starting action against terrorists

"Let's roll" was attributed to Todd Beamer, whose widow Lisa became a DL favorite. Our fascination with Lisa culminated in the classic "Let's Roll Cinnamon Rolls" thread.
