Because they're busy getting by and raising kids, they can't be bothered with The Other. Rich people have the disposable time and income to read, travel, meet people from different walks of life... basically to faff about, which eventually results in being "worldly".

R1 is correct, although one doesn’t need to be wealthy to travel, having consistent exposure to different cultures really makes a difference.

I think it’s critical to get that sort of exposure in one’s formative years, all the way to becoming a young adult. It allows one to pursue curiosity, & one is really open to forming new friendships when one is still young enough to do so, without having been shaped into a person who fears anything and anyone who isn’t just like them.

Poor people are also more likely to be religious, to be less-educated, and to travel less.

These three factors play some role in their worldview being what it is.

It has nothing to do with being poor. As others have said, it has to do with what you're exposed to. I suppose it's true that rich people have more opportunities to be exposed to how other people live than poor people do.

The same thing applies to whether you're uncomfortable with people from other countries, or Jews or Muslims, or any number of things. If you have no personal experience with it, you're likely to be hostile to it. This is why diversity programs are so important and why conservatives are so opposed to them.

Because poor people are more often than not poorly educated and untraveled.

Religion as someone said above. Poor people are more likely to cling to religion or a belief in God to get them out of the many horrible jams that find themselves in. Religion as it is usually preached is ant-homosexual.

You guys are rewriting history. Rich people set the baseline for what is "moral" in any society. Sometimes the clergy gets a little out of hand and goes rogue, but on the balance, morality is determined by the wealthy.

In most cases, it boils down to either exposure or Jesus.

I personally believe that most people are homophobic in some way, but some just tolerate it better than others.
