Not crazy about the vine wall pattern in the entrance room.

I like it

Perfect London home. The kitchen is incredibly bright for bright for being in the basement. Wish she had talked more about the garden.

I hate long, skinny living rooms. With today's large TVs you can't get far enough away to view properly. You also can't arrange sofas in an inviting way for chatting with, say, yourselves and two other couples.
I suppose you're supposed to sit around the kitchen island and cradle mugs?

She answers the door knowing it is AD but she still says who she is?

One of the more likeable presenters/homeowner subjects of these sorts of tours, informative, not too deadly serious not too flip and she keeps to the subject.
It's a skinny London house but the various changes have made it bright and arranged in broad functional zones that make sense. The quality of Crittal steel windows and doors and other finishes lends quiet luxury and utility to what were choppy front and back rooms that for more than one or two people is much more spacious than smaller spaces with walls and doors at every turn. This part of the renovation often fails in narrow London houses but succeeds well here. The finishes are simple but of quality and practicality (the Syrian brothers' console with the marble top, for example.)
It's a "design challenge" that's not at all rare but the result is genuinely quite good. It's a lovely house thanks to a smart and simple plan with some nice detailing.
Not the most unusual or exciting challenge, but the result is notably good. And I didn't hate the celebrity tour host (though I only vaguely know who she is.)

Ah I wanted to go into the backyard.

I like how she credited the former owners with most of the reno work. It all looked very comfortable, especially the kitchen and living room level.

Have a drink every time she mentions her dog.

R4 Not to disparage what you say, but that sounds more like a setup for a home in the suburbs or the countryside, not prime real estate in one of the world's most expensive, and densely populated, cities.

I love a drink, R9, but my liver wouldn't be able to take it.

It's a beautiful home, I wouldn't change a single thing.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 10, 2025 12:36 PM |
Beautiful home. Maybe. Who could tell with the camera constantly moving and the dumb transitions every half second? It's an architectural magazine. SHOW THE HOME. It's not a Nikki Minaj video.

I’m acquainted with a woman who worked with Michelle on the show “Godless”. She told me she was just lovely in person and the cast and crew loved her.
I think her home is lovely and I’d be happy living there. The dog can stay.

I don't like to turn my back on my guests!

To me the house looks good but impersonal, clearly the work of a professional decorator without any need for her to mention them. It's what a thousand other finished homes look like on HGTV.

I have to laugh when people have coffee tables so close to their sofa.

The English have the worst taste of any nationality. A generalization of course but some nation has to be on the bottom. And the Brits have it locked. They veer between what looks like Early English to Ugly Modern and often have colors that simply don't work together. I have yet to see an English that comes anywhere close to what we see in French, Italian, or Scandinavian houses. Or, even German.

I never thought I would like her after my initial introduction to her on Downton, but I surprised myself. I think she's absolutely lovely, and her home is, too.

I'm confused about the layout of this place.

I hate that default music. God it is over used.
Its fine. Pleasant. Obviously expensive. But boring.
How much did she make on Downton? Not that much. I bet she made bank on the films though.
