Why can’t Monica be another long-lost Lord? Maybe she got lost in the secret room? Victor got AROUND.
I need VIKI.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 10, 2025 12:41 AM |
Ironically, I had the same thought. Why can’t Erika Slezak be on the show as Viki and also be Monica’s sister? After all, Monica was an orphan (even though we never quite understood where her cousin Lorena sharpe fit it) AND Victor Lord did have a history of playing around. Could actually be kinda plausible. Added bonus, if Viki did turn up in PC she could out Isaiah as a Llanview Gannon.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 10, 2025 12:53 AM |
Plus, aren’t rumors saying that her character is Monica’s long lost sister, and has ties to someone else in the canvas?

Why bother tying Slee's brand new special guest character to another GH character when they've already bought her return flight home?
Guess if the show hadn't already killed off most of the characters that Monica interacted with for all her years on the show, they wouldn't have to bring Slee in as a day player to help pad out Monica's memorial storyline.

No, his brother was Matt Hunter

I'd give the Viki thing more credibility if Monica was her only supposed connection, but previews/rumors have suggested Slee's character is also going to be Brennan's mother.

I shake my head at the Ric in the basement thing. Are they going to attach him to a garage door opener like Dabney coleman in 9 to 5? What do they do when he needs to use the bathroom or feed him? And Alexis was worried about having scout in the house with him in the basement. Uh, shouldn’t she be more worried about Molly finding him? As for the ball-gag…my money was that Ava happened to have one in her purse.
What do they do when he needs to use the bathroom or feed him?
In soapland, prisoners never need to use the bathroom. They also need minimum food. Don't you know that. One of the basic rules of soap operas.
The prisoner will will also somehow come out of captivity freshly shaven and with a fashionable haircut. Sometime, they even manage to get highlights put in their hair while in captivity or in a coma.

I think it's better that she's not Viki. She would have to explain what's going on with everyone in Llanview, and that would just piss off the GH fans. Plus, the actress is 80 years old, and I'm sure she wants to sink her teeth into something new while updating her SAG insurance.

Here’s betting the character will be played exactly like Viki, no matter what the name.
Do any of these soap stars show actual variety when they jump from show to show?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 10, 2025 3:47 AM |
Austin Peck definitely showed growth when he was on ATWT. Camila Banus improved when she went from OLTL to DOOL even though I didn't care for either character. James Scott never got to shine on AMC, but he was great on DOOL.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 10, 2025 4:36 AM |
I'd say Heather Tom showed range between her stints at Y&R, OLTL, and now B&B. Her Kelly Cramer was a lot different than her Victoria Newman.

by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 11, 2025 11:00 PM |
Whenever I hear Robert Adamson mentioned or he's filled in on GH I am reminded of the story back when he and his girlfriend Linsey Godfrey were both on B&B. She was hit by a car while walking on the sidewalk and had extensive surgery/recovery. She banged on in an interview about how it was Thorsten Kaye who came over and fed her soup during her recovery. Must have been one awful relationship if she felt the need to tell the world her co-worker was nursing her and not her baby daddy. They broke up around the same time, I think they had a small child.
I don't watch B&B but was scrolling recently and caught a recent glimpse of Thorsten. He's morphing into Mr. French from Family Affair. I knew the fans call him hobo Ridge but I didn't know he had digressed so much since his Zach Slater/AMC days which is where I know him from.

So, who do you guys think will get the house that Alan gave to Monica after she dies? I’m thinking Jason or Michael, but my money is on Michael. It would be interesting if Drew manages to fake her will, gets the manse and kicks all the Qs to the curb. Then he could live there with Willow and Scout in that great, big house.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 12, 2025 12:24 AM |
R40. Good thoughts! I'm guessing its Jason who inherits the mansion with a codecil that he allows everyone currently living there to stay. Her ELQ shares and personal fortune get divided up amongst the next generations. Tracy gets nothing...which sets her off!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 12, 2025 12:33 AM |
Typical DL thinking that the only people who could inherit the Q mansion would be someone with a penis, who knows nothing about the day to day running of the house and grounds.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 12, 2025 1:04 AM |
I imagine it will be Tracy. They recently had Martin make a point of irritating Tracy by reminding her it's Monica's house (no idea how he knows that history). It should go to Tracy. Fuck Jason, and Michael -- they both opted to be Sonny's bitches. And Tracy was the one who fought like hell to save the crypt (which is how I thought they would reveal Monica had died).
Also, won't Tracy already get set off when she sees Willow sporting Lila's wedding ring? Willow might lose a finger.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 12, 2025 1:09 AM |
Monica will unintentionally leave the house to her sister Erika Slezak. Tracy will fight the sister for the house in court which will involve many family members and PC residents. Tracy eventually wins. Erika collects her big fat paycheck and goes back to Connecticut.
And scene.

I think Rory is doing a great job. I'm much more interested in Michael now than I ever was when Duell was in the role. Only times I was ever interested in Duell's Michael was when he was feuding with Sonny.
Don't get me wrong, Duell was perfectly adequate in the role of Michael. He just wasn't terribly exciting in it either.
Yes, Rory could add some depth and a bit more expression to his performance. Perhaps that will come in time. He's still adjusting to the amount of material GH is giving him, compared to what Y&R gave him for the 18 months he was in Genoa City.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 12, 2025 7:29 PM |
Rory was a downer at Y&R and he is playing that same downer at GH. I don’t see any acting range from him. Downer downer downer.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 12, 2025 8:07 PM |
Now that he has a few paychecks under his belt, Rory needs to work in some sessions with acting coach Holly Gagnier as so many of GH's younger/less experienced have done. NAC, Avery Pohl, Tanisha Harper, Gio.

It's weird to me that they wrote in a standard "seriously burned" story to switch actors. Almost always that's excuse for the new look, but not here. Michael's face was never burned yet now we have someone who looks 180 different. It doesn't bother me because the show already requires Herculean suspensions of disbelief every day, but I just thought that was an odd choice as writers for them to make and not use.
Overtime Michael has gone from redhead to blond to now dark brunet.

R65 — do the actors have to pay out of pocket for Gagnier’s coaching or does production pay?
I’ve always wondered about this, even back to when Larkin Malloy, Lisa Brown, and others were coaching on soap sets.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 13, 2025 2:23 PM |
I'm not sure what it's like now, but back in the day, when these shows had money, some shows had on-set talent coaches, paid for by production. Most actors are usually in various acting classes, and those are paid for out of pocket by the actor. Almost every show is now live to tape (for lack of a better term). If actors don't seek out each other to rehearse or work out scenes, it doesn't get done.

Yes, Ingo looks good in that video. Too good for a 54 year old man. No visible wrinkles, perfect skin. Clearly he is still dying his hair blonde, but also must have gotten some botox. Or maybe even plastic surgery.
What is the see you in court references he makes? Is he still trying to sue ABC over the vaccine mandate? Or has he come up with some new reason to sue GH?
[R97] - Thanks for the treat.
You're welcome. I've found all of it really fascinating. It was a very different show back then.
-I didn't know that Rick had adopted Laura.
-I knew that Laura was a mess, but I didn't know how sweet she and Scotty were together. It now makes sense to me why Marland was not on board with the Luke/Laura romance - all the rape stuff aside.
- I also didn't know that Tracey has been Tracey since the very beginning.
- Alan and Monica are living in an apartment. I was under the impression that Qs was an old-line Port Charles family, but that's not the case. The mansion is the marital home of Alan and Monica, and the rest of the Qs just moved in. Now the house being Monica's makes sense to me.
- I love Bobbie and Nurse Jessie together. Also, this version of Bobbie is so much fun. I love that she hates Laura.
-I also like the awkwardness between Monica and Leslie. Monica plays nice and tries to build a friendship, while Leslie is uneasy—great subtext in their scenes.
My only issue is not the story, but the atrocious background music, which doesn't fit the scenes.

I get a fiendish delight thinking of Jax coming back to Port Charles to get a sex change operation and to bond with Terry. That would be a groundbreaking storyline.
Plus, having Jax lecture Alexis for not being woke and progressive enough would be delicious.
In addition to Ingo's ongoing feud with Nancy Lee Grahn, Ingo also made some anti-trans Twitter comments a few years back and then had to apologize to Cassandra James (Terry). So, this would be very appropriate storyline to make Ingo do.

R98, the writing on the show at the time was everything.
Douglas Marland was the head writer. I love the Gail/Monica scene. Gail does'nt want to come right out and say it, but she didn't want that bitch Tracy sticking around making newlywed Monica's life a living hell.
Tracy didn't care about the cardiac wing. She wanted to make sure Moncia and Alan's offspring didn't get his or her grubby hands on the money left in Uncle Edgar (or Grandfather Edgar's) will.
Monica was softened a bit at this piont; the whole reason Alan gave her the house was so that she'd have a power base when the shit hit the fan when Alan accused Monica of sleeping with Rick (she hadn't -- yet) and he tried to kick her out of the house. Not so fast, Alan. It's Monica's house.
Today, or until recently, that was used as a punchline. But there was a REASON the writers gave Monica the house.
O'Brien was brilliant as Heather; she gave the role a Sheila Carter quality. Lesley was the best heroine on soaps. Kids are lucky to get 'don't slam the door' but Lesley was willing to go to jail to protect Laura. This was the story that propelled GH to the top. That and the quadrangle with Rick Lesley Alan Monica, and Bobbie going after Scott.
Steve, Audrey, and Jessie were kept in the mix; Steve and Audrey with Jeff's paternity. Jessie with Dan and Bobbie.
I so wish that era was more on YouTube. ESPECIALLY the David Hamilton trial.

NAC at the Emmys.
I don't understand why he always has to pose with such a severe facial expression on red carpets. I understand models have to look fierce or whatever when they strut the catwalk but why does an actor have to put on this look. I find it off-putting.

Port Charles needs way more attorneys. Like a 1 to 1 ratio with all the crimes committed.
I'm confused with this whole receipt thing. Wouldn't there be a bank account listed from which the money came? Sure. it's offshore and obfuscated, but the FBI could eventually figure it out. Sidwell might as well have Zelle'd the money to the judge.

by Anonymous | reply 129 | September 16, 2025 1:17 PM |
Actors who are brought in as opponents of sputtering Mo should know by taking a quick look at history that their employment will not be long term.
Carlo Rota's wife DA Turner may last longer than his Sidwell character though.
Apparently Carlo, his wife and Finola have become very close friends and socialize often. I wonder what they talk about over dinner and do sputtering Mo's ears burn.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | September 16, 2025 1:29 PM |
More like what WAS Sidwell's ultimate plan. They were leaning him into Cassadine territory for a while, but they've completely dropped that and now seems like he'll also be floating in harbor by the end of the year in another Whodunnit.
Most likely due to the bigger bad reveal who has been funding the cold fusion research. But maybe they'll tie that to Brennan, as he has no future after the Joss reveal to Carly.

We saw scenes of Britt surfing the internet on her Ipad. She could access Facebook to get photos of the Nurses Ball. She also looked at photos of Rocco. No reason why she wouldn't be able to see news of Sam's death.
Similarly, she was able to travel to Paris, at least once, so she could have purchased newspapers and magazines, etc. There is no reason to believe Britt is ignorant of news of the world and of Port Charles.

I have not watched a soap (minus old ones on YT) since 2012.
I checked out GH on YT-- 2 episodes leading up to the ending about Monica-
Just my take- The HD/Lighting gave the show a very flat look- No shadows, no nuance. The sets were quite decent but the lighting was so flat- it was strange.
The show seemed very "quiet"? Not many characters, alot of conversation about plot but not much plot. It seemed like a soap where many folks have died- You could feel that energy- Just a sad and lonely vibe.
I loved seeing Josh whatshisname who played Cutter on OLTL (he is so handsome, I always felt he might be gay in real life) He was taking to a fucking beagle- the entire episode?
Frank's OLTL looked really good- Great lighting, I was never a fan of OLTL's small sets post JFP, but he made the show look great on a budget until the end... The show never felt at deaths doors, even when it was.
GH depressed me seeing everyone so much older than I remember, and how quiet it was..
Not a fair assessment for 2 episodes and likely nonsense. Shit has changed so much in a decade.

Got it R208-- You can feel it. I am guessing that all the shows feel like that. Perhaps B&B fares better due to the 30 minutes-
Also, I am not one to recommend fillers but that Steve dude could use some moderate facial filler- It would do a world of good.
I never understood his appeal or popularity as it is (along with that Laura Wright that i see discussed here ad nauseam!)
But he could use some- That lighting is very, very unforgiving- I feel for all the actors.

I also know he was a wacko antivaxxer so, you know, eff him.
by Anonymous | reply 229 | September 19, 2025 8:25 PM |
When he told Tracy that he wished he had memories of when Monica was his Mom, that broke me. Regardless of how you may feel about the story of Jason Quartermaine becoming Jason Morgan, I respect that GH stuck with it and didn't cop out and have him get his memory back.

I’m trying to think. Monica had affairs with Rick Webber, Sean Donnelly, Pierce Dorman, and a fling with Ned. Anyone I’m leaving out? And for the record, Alan cheated with Susan Moore, Lucy Coe, and did he ever do the deed with Karen Wexler’s mother, Rhonda?
I also know he was a wacko antivaxxer so, you know, eff him.
He was willing to quit the show and give up a lucrative salary for what he believed in.
And he didn't turn around and sue ABC for having that vaccine policy in place.
Both of those are things I admire, even if I disagree with his opposition to getting a vaccine when we were in the middle of a global pandemic and were trying to establish herd immunity.

I'm not sure how they'll do Lesley's death with her being off the show. She was a huge get for GH, got 3rd billing after Steve and Jessie, and a huge salary. I think it would be the perfect time to bring back Nikolas. I think Lesley and Nikolas worked well together.
by Anonymous | reply 233 | September 19, 2025 8:41 PM |
I think they will kill off lesley Webber, just not with a lot of fanfare. She’s been off the show for so long that there aren’t too many characters that interacted with her, except for Laura and her family. Maybe some flashbacks of Laura talking to LuLu about her grandmother when they add her photo to the hospital wall.

Correct r239. Susan lived in a cottage near the Qs. Like Monica would ever allow her husband’s mistress to live in the property. I do think heather and Scotty moved in with baby Jason . And after Susan was murdered, bobbi moved in with her then husband, DL Brock

Baby Jason living on the Qs property after Susan's murder but Monica not accepting it was a big story at the time.

I've noticed some people on social media being nitpicky about specific historical references related to Monica being wrong. Maybe it's sloppy writing, but I'm going to choose to believe that, like in real life, when someone close dies, some historical facts get conflated, certain things are either forgotten or not mentioned, and in many cases, sinners become saints.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | September 20, 2025 3:24 AM |

R257 Adding on to R255 R258 Dawn Winthrop Ashton had a half sister on her father's side, Monica "Nikki" Langton, daughter of David Langton and Penelope Adler. Although Monica was Nikki's namesake, she came to town seeking revenge on Monica for her father's death, filing a lawsuit for malpractice, which she did not win. She also dated AJ while setting her sights on the Quartermaine fortune. Alan paid her to leave town; AJ tracked her to Malibu, where she was married with a baby (the baby could always be rewritten as AJ's).

There was a time when a show would invite a dozen past characters to return for the funeral of a legacy character. With todays budget, I have a feeling Monica is getting a Walmart Deli Platter and Sonny Corinthos (whose guts she hated).

R206, it was interesting to read your impressions after a decade of not watching. I agree with you about the flat HD lighting.
I’d argue that the episodes you saw were a little quieter than the norm, with many characters talking in groups of 2 (and and Cody alone with a dog). I’d argue GH is the only soap on left on the air (maybe BTG, I haven’t watched) that can pack 24 key characters into an episode and do big ensemble scenes. The camera moves in interesting ways, and someone is actually paying attention to how shots are framed.
Compared to say, DAYS, which is so impoverished that episodes are capped at 12 characters and most scenes feature static shot/revere shot of 2 people talking on sets the size of broom closets, GH looks like Barry Lyndon or Gosford Park.

I can buy Tracy getting the history wrong; she left PC in spring 1980 and didn't come back till 1989.
She did know Susan, though. She called her a 'cocktail waitress' long before she and Alan got together.
When Tracy walked in on Susan and her fiance Mitch in bed together, she WINCED. It was great.
However, the gate house and Susan's cottage are two different places.

R280- R206 here. I totally believe this- and 2 episodes are hardly enough to gauge. I may check out the show some more. I was a Y&R/OLTL fan and GH was one I liked as a kid in the summers from 85-90- Never watched after that. I always dug Maurice as Nico on AMC. That was my grandparents show but I always liked Nico and Cecily- and that was it. But I was 8.
Regarding all of these MAGA soap stars-May I just add that if Josh Kelly follows hardcore repubs I have to say he was seriously gay friendly, Happy Pride stuff on his Instagram years ago, videos of him hanging out with clearly gay men.. I have followed him for years.. But the rest was seriously disappointing. And Tonja is nuts and has always been wacky- And I unsubscribed from her channel a while back when she would sneak in a Trump supporting comment in nearly every episode- very stealthily I may add. "Everyone I know was doing better under Trump" was one of them.
Sad to realize that most of the Quartermaine's are gone now. And it was great seeing Tracy. I recall her returning to GH in 89 maybe? And my mother loved her but despised her hair style. I cannot believe that they gave her THIS hairstyle!! (It was like the one Rosie O'Donnell got years ago!)

Watched yesterday's episode this morning, and it was a good time to pick it up. Steve Burton's a dick, but he's really selling Jason's loss and regret. Asher Antonyzyn is getting better, too - when his voice cracked at the end of the confrontation scene, I almost missed Sam!

Steve has really stepped up his game these last few episodes. Yesterday was tough. Great job.
I'm also glad that they haven't brought Sony and Carly into the mix yet, and are allowing the focus to be on Tracy and Jason.
And on a completely shallow note, from some of those closeups, I think Steve is getting some kind of "hair help" even though I respect that he hasn't gone the filler/botox route.
Wasn't 25 yr old Aiden supposed to return from his trip with hobo Lucky so he could finish grad school...err...oh...I mean high school?
I think traveling with Lucky was just a kind way to write the character off because the actor wasn't working. Mark Teschner has had some misses lately. Personally, I think the Gio actor reads "too young" for his particular role. That scene where he kissed Emma felt like a little boy kissing a grown ass woman.

R290 You're correct, that should say 1996 when she made her debut; Santa Barbara was her soap home in 1986.
Fun Fact: Not sure if it was ever referenced here, or if anyone really cared, however, Kate Mansi likes to reference her mother Victoria dating Lane Davies. Lane himself apparently likes to mention the story as well; Victoria and Lane relocated to Los Angeles from Providence, Rhode Island together, well before he was with Nancy Lee, before Kate was born.

R294 and r296. I agree. Seeing the deceased characters from behind was very much a tear jerker. You didn’t need to see any faces: you got the point. And they could have Emily and AJ bring her over too. People seem to forget that even though Sean is at B&B they can always use Billy warlock (who I preferred as AJ-he was such a worm. lol)

Burton is a rude friend. I recall him telling Bradford on their show that he was leary of staying at Bradford's house when he was commuting from out of state because his house was in a sketchy neighborhood. Not very "Christian" like. I think Brad was driving Uber on the side at the time to make ends meet. Not everyone is fortunate enough to rake in a huge paycheck to just stand around on camera with their arms folded, wearing black and mumbling a few words like Burton. Also, why couldn't Burton stay at a hotel? Didn't want to spend his miracle juice money he pressured out of his fans?

"Aiden" was on a recent episode of Judge Marilyn Milian's new court show. He was the "plaintiff" in a case suing the "defendant", his former best friend. At the end of each episode, there's a disclaimer that states some of the cases are re-enactments of previously litigated cases. He showed more acting ability on her show than he did on GH (for the limited amount of time he was onscreen)...

R317 yes, Lucy for several months was a mousy, timid librarian. Then, in one of the most shocking scenes in soap opera history, she turned out to be a sex kitten obsessed with a serial killer.
The odd thing about that Laurelton storyline was a big part of it was supposed to be this central, shameful event that happened to Teri Brock. It wound up with her stark raving mad walking naked down the street in Laurelton- singing at the top her her lungs.
It was clear to.me the suggestion at first what that she'd be gang raped by a group of boys led by Patrick O'Connor. But it seems like they decided to keep Patrick as a love interest, and they didn't want another Luke and Laura type situation. So they changed it. Teri wasn't raped, nor did she even have sex.
IT MADE NO DAMN SENSE.
The story of who exactly was killed in Laurelton and the motives was fuzzy. Very odd writing back then.

R319- You rule- I spent 3 weeks with my grandparents in the summer of 1985- I was 6!!! I remember a big plane crash in Dallas, The Laurelton storyline (which I did not understand-TO THIS DAY- It seemed very lurid, and very adult- very primetime- and Lucy Coe was EVERYTHING) and my all time favorite fave OLTL with Mitch and Tina. (That may have been 86')
by Anonymous | reply 321 | September 21, 2025 1:46 AM |
In the late part of the early 80s (like 83, 84) and the mid 80s -- 1985, 1986, 1987 -- GH ran on the success that was established by Douglas Marland who wrote the show from 1977 to 1979, and Pat Falken Smith, who carried his legacy and expanded stories from 1979 to 1981.
After that, the show ran on the popularity of those tales. Laurleton was a mess as were other stories at that time. Gloria was running the show and the writing, it seemed.
by Anonymous | reply 322 | September 21, 2025 2:23 AM |
R33- I love reading this kind of stuff. I do check out 85-91 ATWT on Youtube- there was no show that I did NOT watch as much as ATWT as I was hardcore OLTL- But that Liz Hubbard would force me to watch during commercials- she was THAT good.
As a kid I really enjoyed the Wes Kenney years of GH-(after checking Wiki) after that, I was done. I was just a kid, but apparently I enjoyed Wes Kenney's production. (I thought that the show looked good then too) I remember Cheryl Stansbury, Katherine Delafield, Robert/Anna and of course Olivia!
I was a OLTL ride or die and GH was the show that was on for everyone when we got home from school, but that 87-90 era for GH was REALLY good. (My mom's only soap by then was GH- she was a hardcore AMC fan in the early 80s before she went back to work)
I also remember Sean and Tiffany's wedding when her name was revealed to be Ethel Crumholtz ?? (Or something like that) My mom roared with laughter. And I knew it was funny too. I have a weird memory and feel that this was around Thanksgiving 88 or 89?
I forgot how much that I enjoyed GH- and I always loved the Quartermaines.
These shows seep into your heart and your memories. It's a very special thing. They get tied into everything since they were on everyday.
Thanks for these memories, they run deep and mean more than people know.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | September 21, 2025 2:41 AM |
R321 and R322 there were elements of the Laurelton story that were well done. As we said Lucy Coe, and Kevin O'Connor (who'd played Frisco for a few weeks) were very good.
But the story itself was convoluted, and really made no sense. Someone from Laurelton was found dead in Bobbi's brownstone, which somehow related back to Terri's trauma in Laurelton at having witnessed another murder... the writers were really not held to account. And this was a network show!
About 8 months before the Laurelton story kicked off, Terri got a mysterious call from her grandmother. In that episode she was played by Carol Bruce of WKRP. Too bad she was recast- she would've been fun.
I recently went back and watched the whole Laurelton storyline on YouTube. It was tons of fun, but those plot holes I remembered were definitely there.
It was so weird that Frisco suddenly abandoned his music career to become a cop. And he seemed to somehow get assigned to the case while still in training.

R318 so Scotty was Monica's sort of brother?
by Anonymous | reply 325 | September 21, 2025 3:31 AM |
Terry Brock was one of the most annoying characters ever created for GH. Beyond the nonsensical writing, her wailing whiny “suffering” was a bore to watch. Even when they moved on from the Laurelton mess and came up with the much more compelling DL Brock murder, there was Terry sobbing and whining as she climbed down the stairs of the high rise and then had to climb back up. Ugh.
Lucy Coe was absolutely the only good thing about Laurelton.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | September 21, 2025 3:34 AM |
No, Scotty wasn’t Monica’s sort of brother. Lee Baldwin and Gail Baldwin got together late in life. Gail wasn’t Scotty’s mother and she didn’t know him until he was a full adult.

R231 - Didn't Monica also have a fling with some French con artist around the time she kicked all the Q's out of the mansion? And to be clear, her short affair with Ned happened before she knew he was her nephew while at a spa out of town. It would be funny however for Drew to have thrown that bit of tawdry history in the Q's face when they banished him.
While not consummated, Alan had an almost-affair with Bobbie up to and including making out with her in a rented hotel room. And Amy also unsuccessfully tried to seduce him when she first arrived in town. Alan also had affairs with no-name characters off screen: I recall at least once Monica going ballistic because he had been caught in the supply room screwing around with some bimbo blonde nurse.

I was watching an old clip where there is serious concern at the hospital about Amy's gossiping. No warnings and no one can stop here.
However, the gate house and Susan's cottage are two different places.
Sad to think that at this point it's likely the viewers who know the most about the show's history than anyone on it or running it.
Port Charles must have amazingly slack code enforcement for renovations. The Quartermaine mansion has moved stairwells, front doors, fireplaces and even the location of the kitchen over the years. So, it's not terribly surprising that the cottage has transformed into the gatehouse now. At least the Quartermaine manse still kinda sorta resembles an actual mansion as opposed to the rinky-dink McMansions that Carly and Sonny each live in.

R326 DL's murder was first. Then Laurelton. In was in the wake of the DL death storyline that Bobbi first reached out to Terry's grandmother on the phone. And they were warned in no uncertain terms that Terry was persona non grata in Laurelton.
Remember David Doyle?
by Anonymous | reply 362 | September 21, 2025 6:33 PM |
It was funny how on the old show people would move into established locations.
Like the luxury apartment where Edward played dead with Tracy was later where Bobbi shot DL Brock
Several characters lived in the cottage. As well as the Gate house. But that made sense since it was on Quartermaine grounds.
by Anonymous | reply 363 | September 21, 2025 6:40 PM |
I remember way back when that Alan Q came off like a bit of a prissy queen in his scenes sometimes. Just like Alan Spaulding at GL.
He and Monica loved to fight.
by Anonymous | reply 364 | September 21, 2025 7:05 PM |
Oh God, that makes it worse, R362. How in the world did Glory Monty watch the DL Brock murder story and think it was better to get rid of Judith Chapman and move Terry into a lead role for a giant umbrella story? I hated that story. Terry and the boring O’Connor brothers centering on some gothic southern town that had nothing to do with Port Charles. Horrible.
by Anonymous | reply 365 | September 21, 2025 7:05 PM |
For all her wonderful direction, Gloria was far from having faults.
Maybe she couldn't keep Genie who needed a break and owed it to herself to try nighttime and films.
But Gloria got rid of the characters of Lesley Webber, Diana Taylor, Susan Moore, and Annie Logan -- all fan favorites; Susan had years of story in her as Jason's mother. Gail and Steve were photographed at an anniversary party; probably the 30th.
Even worse, Gloria lost Doug Marland. He went to ATWT briefly and then to GL. In 1982, GL won best show and best writing at the DT Emmys; I believe the eligibility period was March 1981 to March 1982 back in those days.
The show rode on the popularity of characters into the mid 1980s. I checked out Laurelton every now and then, and all I saw was poor Terry screaming and screaming.
And screaming.
I'd found the light long by the time. The Guiding Light.
by Anonymous | reply 366 | September 21, 2025 7:22 PM |
That made me howl with laughter, r366. Thank you.
Doug Marland was truly brilliant. It’s fascinating to think what he would have done with GH if the Luke and Laura phenomenon forced his hand. There were so many incredible stories during that era.
Heather Webber spiking Diana’s tea with LSD but Heather ingesting it instead.
Who killed Diana Taylor?
Monica and Rick’s affair with Alan plotting several times to kill the two of them.
Bobbie’s introduction and her “seduction” of Scotty.
Tracy withholding Edward’s heart medication during his “heart attack”.
Lassa fever and the hospital quarantine.
And those were just a few of the classics. I’m not sure all of them were his but enough were.
by Anonymous | reply 367 | September 21, 2025 8:23 PM |
Gee, I don't know, I liked both the D.L. Brock murder story as well as Laurelton. I loved Ginny Webber, probably one of if not the best character on the show IMO. It was later stories like the Mt. Rushmore terrorist fiasco and the craptacular Katherine Delafield being stalked by her psycho fiancée dressed, no kidding, like an Egyptian pharaoh. Late 80s to early 90s was my first real time out from GH.
I also absolutely hated the Casey Space Alien story, but I think that was still mid-80s. Not a big fan of the super silly Ice Princess plot but it was at least better and more sensible that that mess about some magical sword that followed. The writers must have been on some hardcore drugs back then.

I agree. Laura Wright and Sean Kanen had good chemistry. In fact, it was the most natural chemistry I've ever seen her have with a co-star.
Who would that chemistry have been threatening to? Humm. Wonder who that might be?
Who has consistently been threatened by anyone being more popularity that he has and often gets those co-stars fired? Who is always threatened when one of his romantic co-stars has better chemistry with another romantic partner than with him?

I took a decade off. When I came back, Jason had become "Stone Cold" and was working with Sonny. I agree with those watching now that Sonny and Jason are mostly insufferable.
But I fell into a rabbit hole last night when this came on my YouTube feed. I had missed this origin story completely. OMG, Burton was really terrific! Even better was the writing! It was an amazing storyline. The parts that got me were the scenes where Alan, Monica, and Keisha had to finally realize ... the Jason they knew was dead. Gone forever. Replaced by this monster. It was chilling, yet Burton was able to still make Jason sympathetic.
The scenes of Alan, Monica and Keisha are included in this extended clip. And - FUCK - Burton WAS hot. They would never do a towel scene like this today!

It never occurred to Ned, Lulu, Michael and Brooklyn for one of them to simply call Tracy and ask her where she is and if she’s ok? They stood around for an hour freaking out and no one said “maybe we should try calling her”?

Cady is wrong for that role. She should be playing the nurse's mom.

I just watched today's episode. When Nathan/(Jay to Nina) wakes up. "The last thing I remember..."
Man, if I was writing the dialog:
Nina: You're here. You're really here! (She hugs him. He looks at her puzzlingly)
Nathan: What happened?
Nina: Just wait. You're here and you're okay (she runs out to get Anna. They come back).
Anna: What's the last thing you rememeber?
Nathan: The last thing I remember. I was shot by Cesar Faison. (He looks at Nina). And you? Who are you?
Nina: (reassuring) Nina! I'm you're sister, Nina!
Nathan: But you look.....different!
Nina: It's 2025. I'm seven years older!!
Nathan: (nodding his head) No. That's not it. It's something else.
Nina: (Shakes her head a little, rolls her eyes, then says...) Well, I'm played by another actress now!

There's something just annoying about Bluesy as Charlotte. I don't think she's a good actor (even considering she's a "child" actor), and she just comes off as unpleasant and charmless. I wonder what the casting director saw in her? Maybe she'll improve. I haven't disliked a child/young actor this much since the moppet who played Violet.
The girl playing Georgie (once every 6 months) by contrast is a lot more engaging.
The little boys who play James and Wiley are also surprisingly good and natural for being so young.

If they buried his body seven years ago, then I can only assume "Nathan" is a clone.

[bold] SCREENSHOT!! SIXTEEN PEOPLE at Monicas Funeral!! [/bold] I'm actually embarrassed for the show. They didn't even use the characters they had access to. No Lucas? How would Britt not be there for Jason after he rescued her? How would Emma not be there with Gio when the last funeral he attended was his (adopted) mothers not so long ago. And speaking of Gio----the writers could write a scene where Michael tells Sonny and Carly how much Monica "admired" them, but they couldn't write a scene where (off screen) BLQ told Monica about Gio and got some family advice, since Monica also had adoption in her family? Jake couldn't show up for his grandmothers funeral?
by Anonymous | reply 484 | September 26, 2025 8:34 AM |
I haven't watched for literally 25 years, but I tuned in this week. One thing I noticed is there are just less people. Like back in the day, the hospital scenes made it seem like a real hospital- people coming and going- doctors, nurses rushing about. No more. Mostly only the principal characters are seen in a given scene. PC in general seems much less populated.
And, again for them to not feature any old clips with Alan, Edward or Lila was a glaring omission. Is that another budget thing?
by Anonymous | reply 485 | September 26, 2025 8:59 AM |
If it takes one of his coworkers dying to elicit a decent performance out of Steve Burton, then I feel like we’re damning with faint praise.
by Anonymous | reply 486 | September 26, 2025 10:04 AM |
GH probably has a little more money than the other shows, but soap budgets are not what soap budgets used to be. You can't have 40 contract players and 20 guest stars and flashbacks and expect to have a full season of shows. Extras cost money. Flashbacks cost money. Guest stars cost money. Everyone of those in attendance at the funeral made their usual rate. The 16 people at the funeral was probably pushing it budget-wise. If you want old school soap funerals, weddings, and parties, you are going to have get out your old tapes from 1995.

The recurring actors only show up in the opening slides on days when they are on.
But any of the contract actors can be in the slides any day, regardless of whether they are in that episode.
I wish GH put more effort into only having the people in that episode in those openings slides, but they don't. For the first few months after that slides opening debuted a few years back, they were putting that effort into only having the actors of that day's episode in the opening slide, but eventually stopped.
I have noticed that in recent months Y&R only features the people on that day in its opening.

by Anonymous | reply 503 | September 27, 2025 1:45 AM |
Oh was I a mess today watching that. Glad they at least ran clips with Alan and showed pictures of Lila, Edward, and Steve Hardy.
I was remembering back to 1981- that generic opening with the ambulance. The theme song was literally from a generic library called Tunes r Us or something.
What was cool about that opening was it was created when GH was still kind of standard issue soap stuff. It was a modernization from the old tyme organ music. But by 1981 the juxtaposition between that opening and the newly youth oriented action and adventure was stark. It really belied what usually followed.
As I mentioned earlier, the show just seemed bigger back then. More people, locations, sets, wardrobe. There was something so optimistic about the whole thing.
Sadly, that's gone and the show can never be what it was. And I can apply that to American life too.
That said, I'm grateful we got to mourn Monica today.

Has anybody done a better job of aging??

R503. Yeah. Back in 1998, I believe, for some reason Liz was at the Q's....maybe hanging with Amber Tamblyn's Emily (the only Emily)...and Monica awkwardly asked her how Jeff was and told her about the marriage. I think Liz knew already....

Reading Erika's interview made me sad. She is clearly an older/elderly woman now and is ready to retire. It was very sweet but very sad.
They have a very small family. She has been through a lot and her husband is pushing 90. Losing your daughter at that age suddenly will fuck with anyone- especially for devoted parents like she and Brian were.
I likely won't watch but I hope that it's good for the GH and the story, and not garbage.
I am so glad that Jane Elliot treated her so kindly.

R516- One thing I would never do is check the Vermont Public records to look up someone's death certificate. (Surprised its not come out)
A year prior to Amanda's death she did have a DUI and was arrested- You can google that.
My vibe is that she hid a lot from her parents- I think they lived a very waspish/idyllic life where real shit was not discussed. Erika and Brian gave their kids everything and also bought her that condo in VT. She was a waitress prior.
I would guess that it was alcohol related and I pray not intentional.
I don't think that we will ever know

R518- I suspect overdose of some kind or that. I don't think it was anything else. She seemed very lonely on her Facebook- I had followed her years ago on that. All the money and great parents in the world doesn't make a difference ultimately-
I truly have no idea- but I am pretty sure it was one of the two-
I think that Erika was probably floored- I think that is why I feel so bad for ES- I don't think that they really KNEW their daughter- which adds such a gut punch when someone dies suddenly.

In the COVID interview with Muscle Queen Michael Fairman, Sleestack discussed both of her adult children being back home and basically making sure she and Brian never left the house. Amanda worked for a dress shop then in NY that of course was closed. The son sounds very socially awkward though...almost autistic.
by Anonymous | reply 520 | September 27, 2025 11:50 PM |
R520- Agree about the son- I think that he still lives with them- They bought Amanda an apt in NYC (10 years ago?) when she was a waitress- I had no idea about the dress shop during Covid. They bought her the condo in VT soon after- (Erika even said so in her newsletter I believe) Erika had a beautiful home in VT for years- a 2nd home - but they moved back to their main home in New Canaan. I think that they sold the VT home barely 2 years ago, I think it was in Mt Holly.
The kids were basically trust fund baby types, but VERY close with their parents- I don't think either had much success with relationships.
Just a very close nuclear family. Very privileged and very cut off from real life. I think that Erika was a wonderful mother.
by Anonymous | reply 521 | September 28, 2025 12:14 AM |
R521. No disagreement here. I think Slee and her husband were later in life parents and loved their kids the way they thought best. I do think the daughter's death was drug or alcohol related, which is why there is such a cloak of secrecy.

by Anonymous | reply 523 | September 28, 2025 12:24 AM |
R522- 100%. I think ultimately the kids were so protected and sheltered- that's a good thing and a bad thing. I find it ironic how many tragedies that Viki would endure (including losing her own daughter on the show) and I cannot fathom what Erika went through. When that Fairman dude brought it up - very respectfully- I think it was in the Cancer Benefit /Andrea Evans interview- she immediately teared up, and softly said I cannot talk about this, and then says "It is the worst thing that has ever happened to me".. You can tell that it destroyed her. It's just horrible.
by Anonymous | reply 524 | September 28, 2025 12:28 AM |
I think it was the interview with Alan Locher that he briefly mentioned it towards the end of the interview. He didn’t dwell on it, but offered his sympathy. Erika became emotional and as you said, stated that she couldn’t talk about it, likely because of how recent it was. She’s always seemed like such a class act.
by Anonymous | reply 525 | September 28, 2025 12:33 AM |
Of those flashbacks they showed at the end of Monica's funeral episode, Amber Tamblyn was the only person still living who is not on the show. So, they would have had to pay residuals to her.
My understanding is they don't have to pay residuals to people who are on the show at the time the flashback airs, so no extra pay for Jane Elliot or Steve Burton.
Show has been using photos of Anna Lee, John Ingle and Stuart Damon for years, so they clearly have a long term deal with their families. I'm sure airing a couple of video clips would not make any difference.

Erika Slezak was born in 1946,
That means when her son Michael was born in 1980, Erika was 33 or 34. On screen, show incorporated the pregnancy for Viki's pregnancy with Joey.
When Amanda was born in 1981, Erika was 35. Christine Jones subbed as Viki during this pregnancy.
by Anonymous | reply 527 | September 28, 2025 2:18 AM |
There may be an exemption for publicity shots taken of the actors since the network owns those photos. However, the latest SAG contract is pretty clear about residuals. Apparently, Days went over budget with returns and flashbacks for John Black's funeral.

Whereas Y&r had chance’s funeral in Los Angeles no, Nina no flashbacks no Philip the third. Josh is not on like Maria in that the vision in the writers head does not translate onto the screen.

R507 when was Monica, Laura‘s adopted aunt? I recall a story that Monica bought or helped Laura get a prescription for her access to birth control pills, which I’m sure did not sit well with Leslie they said Laura was a candy striper so many times over the years that I’m starting to think she might’ve been a 1977 before I watched regularly in 1978 but at that point, she was moved over to the blue jacket as a volunteer in the hospital book room

While the paltry turn out for weddings and funerals is a disheartening, I appreciate that they at least gave an explanation -- it was a private service by invitation. No kids. That said, I agree why would they have invited Lucy, Felicia, Dante, and Stella?
They did mention Lesley being too ill (precursor for what's coming) but no reference to Audrey who is presumably still among the living. They also didn't mention Lorena Sharpe, her only known (or suspected) blood relative as a Bard, but maybe that's coming with the Veronica story.
I guess GH didn't want to spend time explaining too much of its own history for such a fleeting episode, but surely they must know that the vast majority of remaining viewers are the loyalists from its heyday.
by Anonymous | reply 533 | September 28, 2025 12:11 PM |
Most likely the Lucy, Felicia, Dante, and Stella actors were already scheduled to shoot other scenes when the shot the memorial scenes and the characters all had somewhat plausible reasons for being at Monica's service. So they also worked them into the memorial as they could help fill up seats at the church service.

Maybe this is just Days, but I heard that non-contract people and extras get a small fee for wearing their own clothes, which is cheaper than have clothes on hand for extras and non-contract people.
Also, I thought Liz was talking about Audrey in the past tense when she mentioned her. Could Audrey already be dead?
Finally, Monica would have wanted Drew at the service. This version of Drew is the most Quartermaine of all the Quartermaines. However, I understand that he needed to be kicked out to make him angrier for future story.

My only issue with that wall is that Steve and Jessie should be the two biggest pictures. Lila and Edward didn't show up until the late 70s (maybe 1980), and they weren't even doctors.
by Anonymous | reply 539 | September 28, 2025 2:53 PM |
They were donors, which, at any hospital, are more important than the staff.
by Anonymous | reply 540 | September 28, 2025 2:59 PM |
^ No, but they were benefactors and money talks.
by Anonymous | reply 541 | September 28, 2025 3:02 PM |
Diana, that wall is missing a lot of dead staff. Several more important than some silly ill-fated nurse
by Anonymous | reply 542 | September 28, 2025 3:04 PM |
Scotty's mom, Nurse Meg Bentley, should be up there.
by Anonymous | reply 543 | September 28, 2025 3:07 PM |
And ME! What, do you fuckwads all think I'm a 110 years old now?
by Anonymous | reply 544 | September 28, 2025 3:15 PM |
I'm watching sporadic episodes from the mid-late 60s on youtube, and there's someone named Dr. Peter Lindsay. I can't find out anything about him on GH sites but did find a reference to his suicidal wife Carol who was in a few of these episodes. Who was he? For some reason I keep thinking he was also Dr. Peter Taylor, but why the name change?
Also, there was a candy striper named Judy Clampett who appears to have been the prototype for vacuous, gossipy Amy Vining
by Anonymous | reply 545 | September 28, 2025 3:26 PM |
Nurse Lucille is up there.
by Anonymous | reply 546 | September 28, 2025 3:48 PM |
Rick Hearst, Chris McKenna and Josh Kelly at a fan event.

Josh has put the weight back on.
by Anonymous | reply 548 | September 28, 2025 7:30 PM |
the closet will do that
by Anonymous | reply 549 | September 28, 2025 7:32 PM |
Josh is a lot of things, but gay isn't one of them. Spend 5 minutes with him and you'll know.
by Anonymous | reply 550 | September 28, 2025 7:35 PM |
Josh is so handsome. Very surprised that he is not married. I mentioned before that he was 100% gay friendly and had gay buddies. Its a shame that he is likely MAGA adjacent.
by Anonymous | reply 551 | September 28, 2025 7:36 PM |
Except for NLG, and a few others, GH is the most MAGA set in daytime.
by Anonymous | reply 552 | September 28, 2025 7:39 PM |
Tell us more, r552. Who is MAGA FFS?
by Anonymous | reply 553 | September 28, 2025 7:43 PM |
R552, who are the few others who aren’t MAGA?I selfishly hope they align with my favorites—Maura, Cynthia, Finola, Rebecca, Jane.
by Anonymous | reply 554 | September 28, 2025 7:44 PM |
It would be easier to list who isn't MAGA, but you don't have to worry about Jane, Genie, or Laura.
by Anonymous | reply 555 | September 28, 2025 7:49 PM |
Please don't tell me Mrs. Andy Dixon is a Trumper. I couldn't take it.
by Anonymous | reply 556 | September 28, 2025 7:54 PM |
R556, First thing I thought--- Bingo
by Anonymous | reply 557 | September 28, 2025 7:55 PM |
I don't believe Maura is full MAGA. I think she is strongly pro-life, but I've never heard anything beyond that.
by Anonymous | reply 558 | September 28, 2025 7:57 PM |
R550 I spent 4 minutes with him and he’s “flexible”
by Anonymous | reply 559 | September 28, 2025 9:39 PM |
Likely the reason the Danny actor and the Leo actor weren't included in Monica's funeral is because of California's limitations on how long actors under 18 can work, or be camera.
I don't know the exact amount of time, but I think its something like teenagers can only work for 6 hours or less a day. Maybe 5 hours of less.
The taping of all those funeral scenes would have taken longer than that. Even it they didn't have any lines, Danny and Leo would have had to be seen in the background for all those funeral scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | September 28, 2025 11:07 PM |
The man in the picture has a similar facial structure to the son of the Orange Clown, Junior Mint. But of course, the soap actor is the good-looking version.
by Anonymous | reply 561 | September 28, 2025 11:45 PM |
We'll include a more attractive specimen on the next thread, R561.

Could also be pre-empted on Thursday if a third game is needed.

Monica and Veronica? Seriously?

Monica and Veronica? Are they setting up twins?
by Anonymous | reply 569 | September 29, 2025 1:27 AM |
Ugh. No pregnancies wanted for the foreseeable future.
by Anonymous | reply 570 | September 29, 2025 3:32 AM |
I started watching GH in 1978. Jeff and Monica were divorced and I think the Monica that Jeff was married to was Patsy Rahn.
Technically, Monica may have been Laura's aunt via her marriage to Jeff IF Rick had adopted Laura when Monica and Jeff were married.
There were RARE scenes between Ricky Dean Anderson (Jeff) and Leslie that I can recall.
That dynamic was never played. Just occasional references to the marriage having once existed.
I imagine it was a sore spot between Jeff and Rick that the former's wife preferred the latter.
By the way, how could either Monica NOT have been head over heels in love with Ricky Dean's Jeff???

Rick Hearst, Josh Kelly and Bradford Anderson at amfan dinner in Astoria Queens.
I don't understand how these dinners bring in enough money to pay the celebrities a decent fee. Does GH subsidize these events?

^^at a fan dinner

Anyone who follows Maura West on social knows she’s just about as far left as NLG, albeit less vocal. Definitely strongly anti-Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 574 | September 29, 2025 4:58 AM |
In all the years I watched, ('82 to "90) Monica's marriage to Jeff Webber was never referenced at all. In fact, I don't recall them ever mentioning Jeff.

I've been watching old episodes/storylines on YouTube. Billy Warlock just took over AJ from Sean Kanan. Warlock was a good enough actor, (perhaps better than Kanan), but the physical difference is so jarring, I wonder how the producers came to the decision.
Then I read Warlock was a fuck buddy of Kin Shriner? If anyone would know, it'd be you guys.
by Anonymous | reply 578 | September 29, 2025 5:33 PM |
Well, Kin has never married…….
by Anonymous | reply 579 | September 29, 2025 5:41 PM |
Billy Warlock was the town pincushion.......
by Anonymous | reply 580 | September 29, 2025 5:45 PM |
Kin and Billy's friendship dates back to the 1980s.
As I recall reading at the time when Sean Kanan was fired, Kin recommended Billy as a recast AJ.
At that point, Kin would have had a lot of sway since he was the star of the just launched Port Charles. That may have played a factor in Billy getting hired.
Are/were Kin and Billy fucking? Many of us here at DL would certainly like to think so. But I'm not aware of any hard evidence to prove it.
by Anonymous | reply 581 | September 29, 2025 5:59 PM |
Kin seems to be a "confirmed bachelor" and there was a long standing rumor that Billy and Marcy Walker broke up because Marcy walked in on Billy with another man in bed.
Not sure that equals Billy and Kin fucking, as R581 rightly states, but who knows.
by Anonymous | reply 582 | September 29, 2025 6:11 PM |
Kin has never had time to date because of his busy career.
by Anonymous | reply 583 | September 29, 2025 6:34 PM |
And his girlfriend in....Canada. Yeah, that's it.
by Anonymous | reply 584 | September 29, 2025 6:48 PM |

Isn't Kin's "girlfriend" the hostess at The Metro Court?
by Anonymous | reply 587 | September 29, 2025 6:58 PM |
R585 I'm working on it!
by Anonymous | reply 588 | September 29, 2025 7:01 PM |
During his last Locher Room interview, Kin was doing it from his girlfriend's house. Or so he said. At one point Kin has having computer problems and a female came into the room and easily fixed it.
I didn't recognize the female, but she certainly was there.

I knew it R586! Nathan is really Dr. John Prentice out for revenge! We will show that bitch Jessie Brewer that we mean business!
by Anonymous | reply 592 | September 29, 2025 7:24 PM |
Nathan West IS Phil Brewer!
by Anonymous | reply 593 | September 29, 2025 7:27 PM |
I like Ryan Paevey, but not sure if he has the acting chops to play Cesar Faison, if show tries to say Faison's brain was transferred into Nathan's body or his essence has somehow taken over Nathan.
Days did that storyline already by having a computer chip containing Stefano DiMera's essence implanted into Steve Johnson's brain.
by Anonymous | reply 594 | September 29, 2025 7:34 PM |
R594 true. Paevey could just about manage Nathan. His good nature and hot body meant we could overlook his lack of skills.
Hoping they don't make him Faison, but I suspect somehow it will go that way.
