Rich Manhattanites terrified of Mamdani

Reality bites—he will be elected. Fair and square. Two choices:

1. Make a fool of yourself running around to find a way to “beat”’him; or

2. Work within the system to moderate results that work best for his voters AND all other NYers.

Imagine if we all stopped bitching and tried to find common ground on housing in NYC. But no—Jeff Blau cannot imagine a world where ZM is mayor. Guess what Jeff—you’re too late.

I wrote the above, having worked with Jeff on housing deals many years ago… he was whip-smart. You knew that one day he would be at the top of the Related empire.

He’s lost some brain power, clearly…. Irony alert: without old-fashioned government involvement ( tax credits, deferrals, municipal bonds, etc.) Jeff Blau and The Related Companies would have been dead and buried long ago.

by Anonymousreply 1September 9, 2025 6:34 PM

It would be easier to plot to "postpone" the election altogether. Permanently. I'm working on it.

by Anonymousreply 2September 9, 2025 7:26 PM

Rest in peace New York City.

by Anonymousreply 3September 9, 2025 7:28 PM

zohran is mocking them already

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 5September 9, 2025 8:51 PM

Entirely predictable.

Decimate the middle class, and you get extreme politics, right and left.

by Anonymousreply 6September 9, 2025 9:05 PM

A leftist populist wih the same inflated false promises to get votes. TikTok has given us a slew of incompetents - complex problems created by global capitalism CANT be solved with simple slogans.

by Anonymousreply 7September 9, 2025 9:46 PM

Nor by Jeff Blau and his spouse LOL

by Anonymousreply 8September 9, 2025 11:14 PM

That Times headline is pretty funny because at the same time, the Wall Street Journal is running an article entitled "NYC Developers, Resigned to Mamdani Winning, Now Want to Work With Him."

by Anonymousreply 9September 9, 2025 11:21 PM

I just cannot bring myself to vote for him although I will have to live with the consequences if he wins. He is quick to criticize capitalism, attack white people, and reserve his harshest words for Jews. But what about Uganda? If he truly wants to be recognized as a leader, he must confront his own country’s appalling human rights record. Uganda’s treatment of LGBTQ people is not only indefensible, it cements its reputation as a nation defined by repression and intolerance. Those who care about justice—especially within the gay community—should be outraged and demand accountability.

by Anonymousreply 10September 10, 2025 1:05 AM

R10 I don’t know how you expect to be taken seriously.

by Anonymousreply 11September 10, 2025 1:42 AM

Mamdani is making promises he can't keep. The mayor has no control over bus fares or freezing rents, they're controlled by State agencies powered by politicians in Albany. Sadly, the less-informed voter will believe his con .

by Anonymousreply 12September 10, 2025 1:45 AM

R10 will vote at a school for the special ed kids …

by Anonymousreply 13September 10, 2025 2:25 AM

Sadly that last “less-informed” reference includes you R12

by Anonymousreply 14September 10, 2025 2:27 AM

Level up you rich cunts.

by Anonymousreply 15September 10, 2025 2:28 AM

The rich have sucked up so much of NYC’s money. They’re not paying taxes and they keep incentivizing developers to build for the wealthy.

NYC has become a playground for the uber wealthy and the rest of NY is sick of it

by Anonymousreply 16September 10, 2025 2:37 AM

I kinda believe the Cuomos are “connected”.

by Anonymousreply 17September 10, 2025 3:04 AM

To be honest you’re an idiot to believe that.

by Anonymousreply 18September 10, 2025 3:47 AM

Oh, okay, R3, who never sets foot in NYC. Fraud.

by Anonymousreply 19September 10, 2025 4:01 AM

Good luck with your islamist. Let's see how that goes fors ya.

by Anonymousreply 20September 10, 2025 4:26 AM

Oh, okay, Mary R20. Since you're not even a New Yorker, your faux concern of "thoughts and prayers" just makes us laugh.

by Anonymousreply 21September 10, 2025 4:43 AM

Get ready for Squeegee Men 2: Mamdani Boogaloo.

by Anonymousreply 22September 10, 2025 6:26 AM

I thought Jewish billionaires got a vote, too

by Anonymousreply 23September 10, 2025 6:33 AM

Nobody is "terrified" of Mamdani, lol.

I doubt the mayor of NYC sets tax rates, and besides, Mamdani has zero relative experience doing or passing anything! He's a complete (anti-semitic) dilettante and blank slate people have imbued with magical powers he does not have! Lol. It is comical what a folk hero he's become before a single vote has been cast!

Sure, he's very likely to win, but then what? What skills does he have to accomplish anything? None, to be honest! Get your "corporate Democrats!" excuses ready, lol. You'll need them.

by Anonymousreply 24September 10, 2025 6:33 AM

NYC - the city where the rich benefit from the poor thinking they too will be rich one day. A $40’martini? Makes complete sense since I’m “leveling up!” Nobody wants to identify as poor except in extreme cases. And nobody wants to fight for a middle class because what would that mean for them when they finally become rich?

by Anonymousreply 25September 10, 2025 7:28 AM

USA - the country where the rich benefit from the poor thinking they too will be rich one day

FIFY

by Anonymousreply 26September 10, 2025 8:37 AM

Very true r26. It’s just very concentrated and obvious, always on display in NYC. I don’t think there is anywhere in Manhattan you can live if you make less than 100k a year, unless you’re on public assistance or have four roommates. And nowhere you can eat and actually pay for what something is worth and not overly inflated just because the next guy got away with selling a $40 hamburger.

by Anonymousreply 27September 10, 2025 9:28 AM

Nor actually true….^

by Anonymousreply 28September 10, 2025 10:27 AM

What part r28? The prices in Manhattan are extremely inflated. You go just south to Philly or north to Boston and you see the difference. Dining out for two in Manhattan is no less than $200. If you make exactly 100k a year, you’re taking home what, 77k? Rent is at least 40k a year. Bills and expenses eat half of what’s remaining. So who in Manhattan is living off of $1500 a month, $375 a week?

by Anonymousreply 29September 10, 2025 12:41 PM

Rich people are a stain on humanity. We would all be better off without them.

by Anonymousreply 30September 10, 2025 12:47 PM

Just about everyone in America is “rich” r30 compared to about 7 billion other people in the world. So you’re saying do away with yourself? A 50k a year salary puts you in the top 1% global earners.

by Anonymousreply 31September 10, 2025 12:52 PM

Dining out for two in Manhattan is no less than $200.

Wrong, for just one example.

by Anonymousreply 32September 10, 2025 12:54 PM

I’m not talking about going for burgers and fries r32. Otherwise if I meant that I would have plainly going to eat. Dining out is sitting down, being waited on, appetizer, entree, drinks and tip. But anyway what part of my post at r27 isn’t true since that is what we are referencing.

by Anonymousreply 33September 10, 2025 1:02 PM

And nowhere you can eat and actually pay for what something is worth and not overly inflated.

Not true.

unless you’re on public assistance or have four roommates

Not true.

by Anonymousreply 34September 10, 2025 1:32 PM

Game over. Welcome Mayor Mamdani but his policies won’t make NY more affordable and safe.

by Anonymousreply 35September 10, 2025 4:22 PM

Love watching those who have squeezed capitalism for all its worth run scared.

When Mamdani wins, they will work extra hard to assure that he fails

by Anonymousreply 36September 10, 2025 4:25 PM

There are no longer cheap diners in NYC. You can drop $30 for a Caesar salad.

by Anonymousreply 37September 10, 2025 4:27 PM

Will Mamdani be a one term Mayor like Adams?

by Anonymousreply 38September 10, 2025 4:27 PM

I think rich Manhattanites will fare well enough.

by Anonymousreply 39September 10, 2025 4:31 PM

Does this guy like anybody? He hates Jews, law enforcement, white people, Indians, rich people,…

by Anonymousreply 40September 10, 2025 4:34 PM

[36] "When Mamdani wins, they will work extra hard to assure that he fails"

The excuses for Mamdani's inevitable failure are already being promoted. When he turns out to be a terrible mayor, it will only because the capitalists worked extra hard to ensure to undermine him. Riiiiiiiight.

by Anonymousreply 41September 10, 2025 4:45 PM

Mamdani is a very smart politician. As Mayor, I see him running to the middle quickly.

by Anonymousreply 42September 10, 2025 4:53 PM

He can’t be that smart. He couldn’t get into Columbia even with ethnicity and nepotism on his side.

by Anonymousreply 43September 10, 2025 4:57 PM

Self-loathing whites, gays, and jews.

by Anonymousreply 44September 10, 2025 5:02 PM

R34 see R37.

by Anonymousreply 45September 10, 2025 5:17 PM

R41 are you stupid enough to say out loud that capitalist entities don’t have large amounts of political sway? If he turns out to he a bad mayor then the two causes you listed can be true at once if there is evidence that they have occurred no? I mean look at this thread for instance, it’s like the nypost headlines are being copy and pasted.

by Anonymousreply 46September 10, 2025 5:28 PM

R25/R27. I live in Manhattan and have yet to see $40 hamburgers or martinis.

by Anonymousreply 47September 10, 2025 5:46 PM

Minetta Tavern burger…but who actually orders it? Expense accounters. Silly to even have to type this.

by Anonymousreply 48September 10, 2025 5:50 PM

[quote]Will Mamdani celebrate his victory by tossing gays off the top of the Chrysler Building?

You're truly pathetic R4.

by Anonymousreply 49September 10, 2025 5:54 PM

The NY Post seems simultaneously disgusted and giddy with anticipatory delight. They think they’ll have the ultimate lefty punching bag in Mamdami for the next 4 years. Time will soon tell because unless something truly unexpected happens, he’s the Mayor-elect already.

by Anonymousreply 50September 10, 2025 5:54 PM

Political smarts and book smarts are not the same. Trump has very good political smarts and he probably can't even read. Mamdani has good political instincts.

by Anonymousreply 51September 10, 2025 5:55 PM

My lesson from Obama is it’s nice to have a symbol of progressive philosophy - but I’d rather have an experienced bare knuckles brawler who understands how to get things done in the political system.

by Anonymousreply 52September 10, 2025 5:57 PM

Obama was kind of a disaster for the Democrats with his "above" politics attitude. On the other hand, maybe they were already a doomed party and he gave them the WH for a couple of terms. Let history decide.

by Anonymousreply 53September 10, 2025 6:05 PM

[quote] He's a complete (anti-semitic) dilettante and blank slate people have imbued with magical powers he does not have!

Where:'s the clear evidence that he's anti-semitic?

by Anonymousreply 54September 10, 2025 6:16 PM

That's such an exaggeration that it defies logic, R53.

by Anonymousreply 55September 10, 2025 6:16 PM

It's more than an exaggeration. It's patently untrue, what R53 said.

by Anonymousreply 56September 10, 2025 6:18 PM

There's lots of evidence that it's quite the opposite R54.

by Anonymousreply 57September 10, 2025 6:21 PM

Lotsa Jewish folks posting here

by Anonymousreply 58September 10, 2025 6:21 PM

Lotsa liars posting here.

by Anonymousreply 59September 10, 2025 6:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 60September 10, 2025 6:34 PM

[quote]Does this guy like anybody? He hates Jews, law enforcement, white people, Indians, rich people,…

Uhm, he likes the trans!

He's proposed a $60million taxpayer slush fund for poor economically disenfranchised trannies to get their wieners chopped off! That's the young fresh blood you keep screaming for!

by Anonymousreply 61September 10, 2025 6:44 PM

In fact, R61, you do make shit up.

by Anonymousreply 62September 10, 2025 6:46 PM

[quote]Mamdani has good political instincts.

Uhm, he failed at getting his own signature bill for free buses passed and in the end even voted against it.

If he had good political instincts he would NEVER have voted against the ceremonial Holocaust Awareness Day recognition four years in a row, INCLUDING the year he decided to run for mayor of NYC (Hymietown)! He's too eager to flex his Jew hate the year he's hustling for Jewish votes! That is called being TONE DEAF.

Face it, he's a stiff. Shiny New Object Syndrome will make him mayor, nothing else.

by Anonymousreply 63September 10, 2025 6:50 PM

I actually don't make shit up, r62.

by Anonymousreply 64September 10, 2025 6:52 PM

R64, the NY Post? Really? He has other policies as well, you know, besides as you so charmingly put it, "disenfranchised trannies to get their wieners chopped off!" You sound like the dumbest MAGAt, referring to that Murdoch-owned MAGAt rag.

And POOR butt-hurt R63! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

by Anonymousreply 65September 10, 2025 7:00 PM

[quote]Lotsa Jewish folks posting here

I've never got that feeling, honestly. The kind of political attitudes (the hawkish zionism, the knee-jerk Islamophobia) I see here are more typical of centre-right philosemitic gentiles of a certain age and tax bracket.

by Anonymousreply 66September 10, 2025 7:00 PM

*socio-political attitudes

by Anonymousreply 67September 10, 2025 7:00 PM

The word you're looking for r66 is "Everyday Democrats"

Yeah, r64 refutes nothing, just shrieks about it being in the NY Post. So typical. You Mamdani acolytes are actually a lot like MAGA types, but without the hats!

The article is from a Liberal Democratic Club site, even though Mamdani has actually never been a Democrat. Try not to shriek too loudly, it will wreck your voice and ruin your chronic upspeak!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 68September 10, 2025 7:07 PM

Aw, R68, apart from your hatred of "trannies" and your love of Murdoch, you conveniently neglect to mention any of his other platforms, like affordable housing. Sorry, smacked ass--but he will win. And YOU and the Post can suck it!

by Anonymousreply 69September 10, 2025 7:11 PM

[quote] Nobody is "terrified" of Mamdani, lol.

Datalounge's hysterical anti-Muslim Troll is. He's told us he's completely convinced Mamdani is going to drag him up to the top of the Freedom Tower and fling him off.

by Anonymousreply 70September 10, 2025 7:13 PM

Yes, the screeching hysteria here over Mamdani is hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 71September 10, 2025 7:15 PM

He has several Jews leading his campaign. He’s been endorsed by many Jewish elected officials here. Polling shows he has by far the largest % of Jewish voters supporting him.

by Anonymousreply 72September 10, 2025 7:32 PM

As long as he doesn't promote Ugandan tourism, he seems to like it there.

by Anonymousreply 73September 11, 2025 1:08 AM

R10 has a point. Uganda is... not exactly gay-friendly

And R63 is right - he voted against the ceremonial Holocaust Awareness Day recognition four years in a row, there is a Politico story that mentions that

Mamdani is going to win, that seems certain. Not that I am worried personally, I dont live there, not my city, not my monkeys, not my circus. I was hoping to go on holiday in NYC sometime soonish though

Oh well, act in haste, repent at leisure

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 74September 11, 2025 1:12 AM

Yes—he’s responsible for all in Uganda because he was born there. And had family there.

Are you responsible for everything where you came from?

by Anonymousreply 75September 11, 2025 1:36 AM

R75 If my home country was doing shit like that I would definitely have something to say about it. Of course he isnt responsible for it, but he can definitely "confront his own country’s appalling human rights record" as R10 suggests, by saying something about it, maybe even calling them out on it

by Anonymousreply 76September 11, 2025 1:44 AM

Because it’s one of the top 10, 30 or is it 50 issues of concern to NYC voters? Enough about affordability and more housing—what about Uganda!!! NO.

by Anonymousreply 77September 11, 2025 1:52 AM

[quote] he voted against the ceremonial Holocaust Awareness Day recognition four years in a row, there is a Politico story that mentions that

Of course the politico story is not linked because that’s not what it says because R74 (shamelessly as usual) and R63 are lying through their teeth.

[quote]Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda, into an Indian family, to academic Mahmood Mamdani and filmmaker Mira Nair. The family immigrated to South Africa when he was five years old and then to the United States when he was seven, settling in New York City. [Wikipedia]

His mother is a Hravard graduate. His father is a grauate of Tufts and Harvard.

What is "his own country" if not the U.S.? Born in 1991 Africa to Indian parents he lived in Uganda and then South Africa before moving to the U.S. when he was seven years old and began his education. As a young adult he had some artistic collaborations in Uganda. He has been active in NYC politics for a decade. Saying he should right all of the wrongs of Uganda (and why not South Africa while he's at it?) before taking up political ambitions in the U.S. is simply giving him an impossible task, a fool's errand to keep him diverted. Whatever his politics, he would seem to meet those of seeking the office of mayor of NYC.

by Anonymousreply 80September 11, 2025 12:36 PM

His father’s family had been in Uganda for ~100 years. LOL.

Learn about colonialism and the Indian diaspora.

by Anonymousreply 81September 11, 2025 1:06 PM

They charge as much or more for a good NY strip steak in Bellevue WA as in Manhattan.

Reality check…

by Anonymousreply 82September 11, 2025 2:42 PM

Just asking him to criticize Uganda with strong words—if he truly identifies as a woke socialist, he should be speaking out consistently. And nobody thinks he is responsible for any of it, just condemn it like he does so freely with other people and places.

by Anonymousreply 83September 11, 2025 7:34 PM

R83 where else did he condemn?

by Anonymousreply 84September 11, 2025 7:45 PM

Zohran Mamdani has not publicly condemned Hasan Piker’s remark that ‘America deserved 9/11,’ and they remain close. More people are starting to see him for who he is.

by Anonymousreply 85September 11, 2025 7:57 PM

“Add it to the list of prerequisite condemnations please!”
