Lachlan buys out siblings, ending standoff which inspired Succession

Unfortunately this means that Fox News will continue and be evil. The siblings could have sold their shares to someone else, or used it to change Fox News’s programming upon Rupert’s death.

This is big news. This changes the future of Fox News.

by Anonymousreply 1September 8, 2025 10:09 PM

Such a shame.

FoxNews poisons the minds of the susceptible.

by Anonymousreply 2September 8, 2025 10:16 PM

Fox News was built to be a malevolent government influencing machine. It's never going to rebrand.

by Anonymousreply 3September 8, 2025 10:27 PM

This is genuinely bad news.

And R1 is wrong, it means Fox will continue exactly as it is. Our only hope is that Lachlan is outed someday.

by Anonymousreply 4September 8, 2025 10:31 PM

Local news is far, far more insidious than Fox. Local news has been bought by conservative corporations by the hundreds and are little Fox News’s but way more slick and sly about it. That is what is poisoning minds and changing opinions far more than Fox.

by Anonymousreply 5September 8, 2025 10:35 PM

Fox News makes way too much money grifting from and agitating (and brainwashing) MAGA. The Murdoch family are not going to relinquish that cash cow anytime soon unless there's a good (lucrative) reason.

by Anonymousreply 6September 8, 2025 10:35 PM

Today my local news reported on Trump’s approval ratings on various topics. They only said “his approval is this” never “his disapproval is this” as they did Biden. That’s just one small fairly benign example. Another is they would talk crime and the border nonstop on my local news stations before the ‘22 midterms. The day after not one story on the border the entire day that I saw when it was nonstop from Jan ‘22-until Election Day ‘22.

by Anonymousreply 7September 8, 2025 10:38 PM

[quote]The Murdoch family are not going to relinquish that cash cow anytime soon unless there's a good (lucrative) reason.

The other three siblings specifically wanted to gain control of the media empire so they could reform Fox and make it less conservative. But now they've apparently decided they're ok with an extra billion dollars each instead.

by Anonymousreply 8September 8, 2025 10:46 PM

I've kinda soften my stance on Fox News. I don't dispute that they are truly evil. They are. But I don't believe anymore that they come even close being responsible for the current political climate.

Looking at other countries, esp. European countries - they don't have a Fox News like we have. And yet the right wing is alive and kicking. Sure, Italy has the Berlusconi network, but Italy's administrations come and go. And the current right wing government isn't even the worst compared to Hungary for example. The UK has GB News. But if I remember correctly, the right wingers rose first, before that channel was even an idea. Germany doesn't have a right wing news channel like Fox News. They have one yellow press paper that is not very influential anymore. And yet, 25% would vote right wing.

So while Fox News is evil, faux news is like water. It'll always find its way, no matter what.

by Anonymousreply 9September 8, 2025 10:47 PM

[quote] The other three siblings specifically wanted to gain control of the media empire so they could reform Fox and make it less conservative.

Why not just give money to liberal voices instead of trying to reform Fox? It's a lost cause, they should just accept that it's a reich wing cesspit.

by Anonymousreply 10September 8, 2025 10:50 PM

r9 what we call "right wing" is not the same right wing in Western Europe.

by Anonymousreply 11September 8, 2025 11:04 PM

Fox has been GQP TV stemming from its inception. Lachlan is a right wing rascal who has escaped accountability, oversight from government, and pushes lies galore. Some lawsuits have been won against Fox, such as the false voting machine claims; but it doesn’t change their general behavior. The ethics at Fox are atrocious.

by Anonymousreply 12September 8, 2025 11:07 PM

R9, perhaps this is so, because most Europeans go to excellent public schools, universities, tend to travel extensively, & have reading/writing comprehension levels far beyond 5th grade, unlike the average American. Ah! And they read actual books, after graduating. They also tend to speak more than one language.

They also tend to be secular, even if they attend church or temple regularly or even if occasionally.

by Anonymousreply 13September 8, 2025 11:12 PM

R9, I still cannot believe you wrote what you wrote.

You’ve got it ALL wrong, & I do wonder if you keep up with European and UK politics.

by Anonymousreply 14September 8, 2025 11:14 PM

[quote]perhaps this is so, because most Europeans go to excellent public schools, universities, tend to travel extensively, & have reading/writing comprehension levels far beyond 5th grade, unlike the average American.

American public schools are excellent in particular areas. Of course many are shit, but there are school districts in the US that do actually teach kids very well.

[quote]They also tend to speak more than one language.

This old saw again. Europeans speak more than one language because they HAVE to. They're tiny countries packed together and they all need to know each others' language.

I've posted this before but if the US states all spoke different languages the people in those states would be multilingual just like Europeans. For example, if Connecticut, Massachusettes and Rhode Island all spoke different languages the people in those states would be fluent in all three languages.

I've known quite a few Europeans who've commented on the fact that you can drive all over the US and everybody speaks the exact same language. Of course there are regional dialects but we can all understand each other just fine. Same with Canada. BTW except for Quebec, most Canadians only speak one language.

by Anonymousreply 15September 8, 2025 11:31 PM

R15 yes, Europeans are not really well-traveled. It just seems that way because the USA and Europe are about the same size. In fact, the distance between Los Angeles, California, and Boston, Massachusetts (2,982 miles) is greater than Barcelona, Spain, to Moscow, Russia (2,242 miles) and that includes France, Germany, Poland, and Belarus in between.

Thus, Euros constantly travel across their continent. However, Americans also log the same miles, but since the USA is so big, it's still the same country.

Also, many Europeans don't speak English. In fact, Hollywood movies are dubbed into their own respective languages instead of using subtitles.

Which Roy is he?

by Anonymousreply 17September 9, 2025 12:10 AM

The Culkin one.

by Anonymousreply 18September 9, 2025 12:13 AM

[quote]The siblings could have sold their shares to someone else

You likely have never read a typical shareholders agreement in a family-held business. Many restrictions are often put on who the shares can be sold to in order to keep the shares in the bloodlines; or there is a shotgun clause.

by Anonymousreply 19September 9, 2025 12:29 AM

Why Family Feuds can Ruin a Business, but Biden did it for Trump

by Anonymousreply 20September 9, 2025 12:50 AM

[quote] And [R1] is wrong, it means Fox will continue exactly as it is.

As has been mentioned, the future was going to be that the liberal children took over the business and changed it, since they would be the majority. That future has now changed.

by Anonymousreply 21September 9, 2025 3:47 AM

Another depressing nail ,in the coffin of democracy. The vapid, ADHD format of TikTok is where lots of people get their “news” now. The death of journalism is the death of democracy.

by Anonymousreply 22September 9, 2025 4:33 AM

Maybe he got some really good dirt on each of them, which made a new billion dolllars more attractive than it was before.

by Anonymousreply 23September 9, 2025 7:04 AM

[quote] Our only hope is that Lachlan is outed someday.

I'm sorry to disappoint you--and I should add that I think he should be outed anyway--but in all seriousness, that tactic might have worked in 1995 but it's not going to do him much damage in 2025.

The world has changed, which is mostly to the good of most gay men--but not in this situation. It just would not make much difference if he is successfully outed (although again, I happily welcome it happening even on the miniscule chance it would make a difference)

by Anonymousreply 24September 9, 2025 7:13 AM

Lachlan is not gay and there have never been gay rumors about him.

However, some people used to think he was physically attractive, and they wanted him to be gay.

That includes R4.

Let’s all make fun of R4 for desiring Lachlan’s body.

Has he no shame?

There seemed to be a lot of gay rumours about him in Australia in the 90s. To the point that it was explained that he had gay friends.

by Anonymousreply 26September 9, 2025 12:37 PM

I really wish I understood how Fox News makes money and is such a valuable property. Given the channel's demographics, I can't imagine they can get top dollar for ads.

by Anonymousreply 27September 9, 2025 12:58 PM

I don't get it, either, R27. Most of the ads on Fox News are for scammy products targeted at old people who don't know any better (Relaxium, anyone?).

by Anonymousreply 28September 9, 2025 2:30 PM

The Nevada courts blocked Evil Rupert's 2 attempts to change the family trust, which was created by Anna Murdoch, 2nd wife of Evil Rupert. The "Family Trust "was part of Anna Murdoch's divorce settlement so the 4 children from Anna controlled the voting shares from Fox. Each child received 25% of the voting shares. The Chinese commie Wendi 2 girls get $$$ but no voting shares after Wendi had a fit because Rupert didn't tell her about the deal he made with Anna, his 2nd wife.

My boss The Big Gg called me last night to tell me& told him "Watch what happens behinds the scenes"

by Anonymousreply 29September 9, 2025 3:29 PM

R22 Oh calm down, Mary. Legacy news and the old guard media are a compromised mess and have been for a long time. They cling to the idea that they exist to perpetuate and prop up the greedy status quo and they dish out the propaganda according to their corporate marching orders. Censorship, shadow-banning, and suppression of real news events (like protests against governments, and boos being hurled at Trump wherever he goes) are huge issues with legacy media now. Tiktok can be noisy and difficult to follow, at first, but that is where the voices of the people are able to be heard in opposition to the propaganda being churned out daily by old guard media outlets.

by Anonymousreply 30September 9, 2025 3:42 PM

[quote]Lachlan is not gay and there have never been gay rumors about him.

hahahahahaha

by Anonymousreply 31September 9, 2025 5:02 PM

Roger Ailes (in the film Bombshell) said about Lachlan something like "those lips have sucked a lot of dicks." It's been rumored for a while that he is a homo.

by Anonymousreply 32September 9, 2025 5:10 PM

Goddammit!

The Murdocks had a chance to do something good in the world, but their greed destroyed the one chance they had to do the right, noble and worthy thing and leave the world a better place.

by Anonymousreply 33September 9, 2025 6:32 PM

There used to be rumours about Lachlan's wife Sarah, as well.

That she was in a BDSM relationship with another female model.

Sarah's a big deal in Australia. She's always tried to project a wholesome image, and nobody calls her out for pushing that given what her husband and father-in-law have done in the US, the UK and Australia.

She's been on the cover of Australian Vogue eleven times, LOL.

Right, Europe’s Right-wing sets up concentration camps and starts world wars. They’re getting into power again.

Tell us you’ve never lived in Europe without telling us. Brexit, Italy run by a self-avowed fascist, Le Pen’s party taking over France, etc. You’re in an idiot.
