Gay version of My Fair Lady - My Fair Gay? My Fair Twink? My Fair Leading Man?
The other thread about Audrey Hepburn, Shirley Jones, and My Fair Lady got me thinking…
What would be a gay version of My Fair Lady? How would that work?
Instead of Eliza, you have Elio. He is a very femme, flamboyant aspiring actor, obviously gay. Played by Timothee Chalomet.
Kevin Spacey plays Henry Higgins.. Elio desperately wants to be a leading man in Hollywood, but they won’t take him because he can’t act straight.
Kevin Spacey teaches him to act straight. When they go to a Hollywood party, Elio is passed off as a womanizer and gets a reputation for fucking many women and being a real pussy pounder!
Perhaps the character of Freddy is gender swapped and it’s a girl who falls head over heels with Elio.
Thoughts? Want to build on this?

In its better, early seasons, Will & Grace had a pretty good gay take on Pygmalion, when Will and Jack helped a guy who came out of the closet pretty late (played by Dan Futterman of The Birdcage) learn the intricacies of gay society. It's sitcom stereotypical -- they give him a makeover, force him to the gym and teach him about pop divas -- but it works.
You can't have a My Fair Lady story where the Eliza is kept by someone like David Geffen. The whole point of the story is that character becomes the equal of Henry Higgins, and even though Geffen grants his boytoys access to the lifestyle of the wealthy, actual equality in their relationship is never remotely on the table.

I remember how insipid that W&G plot was. But it feels like O’Neills compared to the OP.

You don't have to make it any gayer than it already is. In the original George Bernard Shaw play "Pygmalion" it's clear that Higgins and Pickering are a happy couple and they're just playing Queer Eye for the Straight Girl with Eliza. Actually if it were possible to get permission to use GBS' original play as the libretto along with the Lerner and Loewe songs, it would. be perfect. But you coukd make two alterations in the musical to bring out the point:
-Have Higgins sing "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face" to a sympathetic Pickering.
-At the end, have Eliza come back with Freddie, with Freddie kind of pushing her towards Higgins, like "Go on." They embrace like father and daughter while Pickering and Freddie beam.
GBS was adamant that Higgins did NOT end up with Eliza, Freddie did, and that Higgins was a confirmed bachelor.

I know a lot of you hate Timothee, but he is a human being and deserves more out of life than being chased around a craft services table or trailer by that old queen Spacey.

It could be about Henry Willson "molding" a twink named Hard Slab in 1955

As has already been pointed out, it's just Queer Eye For the Straight Guy. You want to do the show as gay? Higgins and Pickering take up a young shop bottom and teach him how to dress, dance, and throw shade -then send him to the White Party to pass himself off as an A-list gay. Higgins loves being his "daddy" but the boy ends up sleeping his way through all the A-listers in the city and ends up hooked on drugs and hustling his ass on Fire Island. Higgins decides he's better off fucking Pickering and not having to worry about STIs.
