Charlie Hunnam IS Ed Gein in season 3 of Ryan Murphy’s “Monster”

Omg this looks so good

Hopefully this makes everyone move on from the fucking Menendez brothers.

by Anonymousreply 1September 4, 2025 4:04 PM

Does he come back to life and get pardoned in the last episode?

by Anonymousreply 2September 4, 2025 4:07 PM

Did Rosie O'Donnell correspond with him and fall in love with him?

by Anonymousreply 3September 4, 2025 4:13 PM

lol.

by Anonymousreply 4September 4, 2025 4:27 PM

Why do we need more of this in the world? What is the point of these endless movies and TV shows of nothing but endless darkness? No wonder the masses are depressed and anxious. Reality is horrible enough and then this is almost all there is in terms of "entertainment."

by Anonymousreply 5September 4, 2025 4:32 PM

R6 you can just not watch it

by Anonymousreply 6September 4, 2025 4:58 PM

[quote] No wonder the masses are depressed and anxious.

There was nothing gruesome in the news or in entertainment about murderers in olden times?

by Anonymousreply 7September 4, 2025 7:17 PM

About time Ed got paid his due.

by Anonymousreply 8September 4, 2025 7:30 PM

I love that Laurie metcalfs gonna be in it. Can't wait it does piss me off that. The pevious monster was about the menendez brothers who are victims not monsters.

by Anonymousreply 9September 4, 2025 8:15 PM

They’re both in my eyes r9

Two things can be true

by Anonymousreply 10September 4, 2025 8:29 PM

[quote]The pevious monster was about the menendez brothers who are victims not monsters.

They murdered their mother by surprising her in cold blood, shooting her in the face with a 12 gauge shotgun, and then shooting her nine more times as she tried to crawl away.

Some "victims."

by Anonymousreply 11September 4, 2025 8:29 PM

The word Monster might apply to everyone in that family.

Makes me shiver.

by Anonymousreply 12September 4, 2025 8:31 PM

Ed Gein only killed a few people and is mostly known for his disgusting arts and crafts projects. They should have picked someone else.

by Anonymousreply 13September 4, 2025 8:36 PM

I think it’s because of the time he did it in and the numerous projects that used his sickness as inspiration.

The grave robbing must have been shocking.

by Anonymousreply 14September 4, 2025 8:39 PM

I’ve had sufficient of these drawn-out Acting showcases for aged hunks depicting monsters du jour.

by Anonymousreply 15September 4, 2025 8:40 PM

R13 one doesn’t have to have a high body count to be a monster. He was one of the notorious killers

by Anonymousreply 16September 4, 2025 8:40 PM

Aged hunks?

Evan Peters was an aged hunk? Cooper Koch and NAC were aged hunks?

This is the first where the lead is in his 40s.

by Anonymousreply 17September 4, 2025 8:41 PM

Lyle and Eric only killed two.

by Anonymousreply 18September 4, 2025 8:43 PM

I believe the point of view in the Menendez series was the father was the main monster with the others in supporting roles.

by Anonymousreply 19September 4, 2025 8:45 PM

I must have blinked. How the hell is Charlie Hunnam 45 years old?

by Anonymousreply 20September 4, 2025 8:49 PM

R19 the show is showing us all of them were monsters and victims in some way. Victims turned into monsters. Each of them.

by Anonymousreply 21September 4, 2025 8:50 PM

Regardless of who the “monster” is, look at the mess they made. Shotguns? In the house? That living room was just ruined. You don’t use shotguns in your own home. Take that shit outside like Alex Murdaugh.

by Anonymousreply 22September 4, 2025 8:52 PM

The Menendez boys were victims AND monsters. What they did wasn’t self defense. It was murder.

by Anonymousreply 23September 4, 2025 8:55 PM

So tired of this crap, and just the ugliness it celebrates, no matter what propaganda they spew about it. It's like turning "I Spit On Your Grave" into a movie of the week.

Stop it Ryan. Turn to the light.

by Anonymousreply 24September 4, 2025 8:58 PM

I agree, r24. I just read Gein’s Wikipedia and I don’t know how anyone could live with that stuff in their head for long enough to write a book/tv show about it.

It’s extremely disturbing.

by Anonymousreply 25September 4, 2025 9:02 PM

There is a giant diversity of entertaining media produced around the world every year. This is a drop in the bucket. If dark is not your thing, ignore it.

by Anonymousreply 26September 4, 2025 9:03 PM

I wish he would do another Feud season.

by Anonymousreply 37September 15, 2025 6:03 PM

Meaning it's not a solid concept and the show is only being made to satisfy Netflix's huge demand for content, r37. Murphy's Netflix shows have been noticably weaker than his FX stuff, you slow cunt.

by Anonymousreply 38September 15, 2025 7:54 PM

Charlie Hunnam is unconventionally handsome, a talented actor and has built an impressive resume. He reminds me of Evan Peters.

Ed Geins' real story has very little to do with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The real story is even more sinister but far less dramatic.

And why do we need the disembodied mothers' voice trope?

by Anonymousreply 39September 15, 2025 8:11 PM

R38, the first two Monster seasons received a combined 23 Emmy nominations and are among Netflix’s highest rated original series. I think they’ve justified their right to exist, even if you dislike them.

by Anonymousreply 40September 15, 2025 8:12 PM

Because his story inspired Psycho, R39.

by Anonymousreply 41September 15, 2025 8:12 PM

R39 because Ed Gein claimed to still hear his mother’s voice. That’s why…

[quote] Charlie Hunnam is unconventionally handsome

In what ways?

by Anonymousreply 44September 15, 2025 9:38 PM

It's correct to say that Gein was nowhere near as dangerous or scary as the more famous fictional characters he inspired like Norman Bates, but what he actually did was so extremely disgusting that it makes the fictional crimes seem mundane. disgusting If I recall correctly Gein cut out a female corpse's outer genitalia, preserved it, covered it in glitter and wore it around his house. This is the origin of Buffalo Bill's "woman suit" in "Silence of the Lambs." I don't follow true crime stuff so I don't know whether Gein's glitter crotchwear was ever actually depicted or even described in cinema or TV.

by Anonymousreply 45September 15, 2025 9:51 PM

Gein was the inspiration for both Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre

by Anonymousreply 46September 15, 2025 9:56 PM

And Silence of the Lambs, r46

by Anonymousreply 47September 15, 2025 9:58 PM

and Cassandra on Doctor Who

by Anonymousreply 48September 15, 2025 10:09 PM

This looks fantastic but I am the biggest SotLs fan so I am biased. I AM surprised that there's not any protests over the show as there was for SotL, frankly I assumed there would be more now than then.

The percentage of. real life serial killers who cross dressed (in whatever manner) is improbably statistically high, that's always fascinated me, never more than Buffalo Bill.

by Anonymousreply 49September 15, 2025 10:21 PM

Is it a rescue lamb?

by Anonymousreply 50September 15, 2025 11:27 PM

Dahmer and the Menendez Brothers stories were a natural fit for Murphy's obvious love of mixing hot men, gay sex, and murder. Ed Gein's story was very much not like that at all, so I didn't understand why Murphy would do this until I saw that he was going to go into how this inspired Psycho and that someone had been cast as Anthony Perkins. Now it all makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 51September 15, 2025 11:38 PM

Lmao Dahmer wasn’t hot and the real Menendez bros aren’t that hot. Him casting hot actors as them is exactly what he did here.

Gay sex? The Menendez brothers being raped by their father isn’t “hot gay sex”.

by Anonymousreply 52September 15, 2025 11:42 PM

He may show that the story inspired Psycho but that isn’t what the show is about.

by Anonymousreply 53September 15, 2025 11:42 PM

r52, say what now? He picks hot men, adds scenes like the blowjob scene in the Menendez brothers season, etc. You'd have to be blind not to watch American Horror Story, Monster, etc. and not notice a trend. Ed Gein's preferences and story are not as natural a fit for the Ryan Murphy treatment, but since he's including that part about Psycho and Anthony Perkins, he'll be able to get some of his usual stuff in there.

And by the way, there's a lot of guys on DL who think the real Menendez brothers were pretty attractive when younger. Not my type, but get real.

by Anonymousreply 54September 15, 2025 11:56 PM

R54 AGAIN, the Psycho thing is Hitchcock and Perkins acknowledging Gein being the inspiration for Bates. We aren’t watching Perkins life. This is a show about Ed Gein. Not Perkins.

I understand you’re highly uneducated but this shouldn’t need to be explained to you.

WWing yourself is pointless btw

by Anonymousreply 55September 15, 2025 11:59 PM

I didn't ww myself, r55. And I'm well aware of the history being a huge Hitchcock fan. And you are the idiot as you completely missed my point. I know damn well that won't be the focus of the show. But he'll absolutely be able to get his Ryan Murphy gay content in that way. Now fuck off, moron.

by Anonymousreply 56September 16, 2025 12:02 AM

He isn’t gonna use Perkins for gay content in a show about Gein. And yes, you keep WWing yourself.

Trust me, the educated men on here aren’t WWing your blatant stupidity.

by Anonymousreply 57September 16, 2025 12:04 AM

Yes, he is, r57. You'll see. Like I said, fuck off. You keep saying educated yet it took you three times to even understand a basic sentence. And I guarantee I have more education than you. You sound like a typical Gen Z idiot.

by Anonymousreply 58September 16, 2025 12:07 AM

R58 the show isn’t about Perkins. He’s gonna be used in about 2 scenes.

FFing people and WWing yourself won’t change the facts. Go to school.

by Anonymousreply 59September 16, 2025 12:10 AM

Was Gein really this fit? What a bod. Hope we get to see a lot of this before he, you know, starts wearing the skin of his victims and all.

[Quote] Ed Gein only killed a few people

Lah dee dah!

by Anonymousreply 63September 16, 2025 6:26 AM

Grin didn’t necessarily cross dress, as much as he wanted to wear the skins of of the women he murdered.

He went as far as to dig out his mother from her grave, decapitated her corpse, and if I recall correctly, kept her head sitting around the house & used it as as disembodied symbolism, in order to have conversations with her.

He’d peel off the faces and skin of his few victims, preserve them or dry them out, in order wear them (which is where the cross dressing usually took place), or he’d make lamp shades or assorted nicknacks out of them.

Keep in mind that before all of this, he was digging up bodies in the local cemetery or private backyards, grave robbing, and engaging in necrophilia with his plunder.

Criminal Forensic Psychologists posit that this all happened due to the enmeshed relationship he had with his mother, which especially escalated after his older brother mysteriously died.

Gein was basically a mama’s boy, with a psychopathic bent. Had he not derived sexual pleasure from the essence of death/necrophilia, he would have just found another woman or a slew of women to replace his mother, since he was so disordered & pathological in his enmeshment with her, he would have been unable to make it on his own as an independent man, or as the head of household in a normal, family unit.

by Anonymousreply 77October 3, 2025 8:56 PM

The show would be so much better if Ryan Murphy didn’t do what he does best and create fiction at times. He created an entire fake character and fake ending. wtf.

by Anonymousreply 78October 3, 2025 9:30 PM

The Menendez show was kind of fun, r73.

by Anonymousreply 79October 3, 2025 10:16 PM

There was nothing fun about two guys being raped and physically abused by their father while their mother allows it.

by Anonymousreply 80October 3, 2025 10:18 PM

Then why is SVU one of the most popular shows in the country, r80? Not everyone is a joyless scold like you.

by Anonymousreply 81October 3, 2025 10:28 PM

wtf does SVU have to do with the Menendez Brothers.

by Anonymousreply 82October 3, 2025 10:29 PM

R81 is implying there is joy in child molestation and rape. I just wanna point that out. He’s already committed numerous online crimes and has a history. Idk why he’s digging his own grave.

by Anonymousreply 83October 3, 2025 10:30 PM

Put John Waters, David Lynch, William Castle, Truman Capote, Hollywood Babylon, the National Enquirer, Scotty Bowers and William Higgins and Georges Duroy/Bel Ami in a blender on top speed. Then mix it with dog shit and let it sit in the sun until it gathers mold and you get your typical Ryan Murphy horror production.

He was cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

by Anonymousreply 87October 4, 2025 1:13 AM

Ed Gein inspired numerous iconic films in Hollywood. He may have “only” killed two people (it wasn’t just two) but he was impactful.

by Anonymousreply 88October 4, 2025 1:19 AM

He was only impactful because Hollywood made him impactful. His actual resume isn’t that impressive. There are numerous people in my neighborhood who killed two people and didn’t get the fame and are forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 89October 4, 2025 1:23 AM

I'm watching it now. Charlie has a gorgeous ass.

by Anonymousreply 90October 4, 2025 1:28 AM

Charlie is so hot. Hoping for some nude scenes in this one.

by Anonymousreply 91October 4, 2025 1:34 AM

R89 I swear, you are slow as fuck.

It’s more than just killing people stupid fuck. There are many people who’ve killed people who aren’t notorious. He is because of how he did it and his story. He used to skin the people and wear their skin and then put the skin on his mother’s corpse. He would wear their lingerie and dance around in them. And he claimed his mother (who was dead and who he dug up from the grave and kept her dead body in the house) was still talking to him. He could hear her voice in his head and would have full conversations and arguments with her (she was dead).

Your lack of understanding and comprehension is why you don’t fit in with us. Yet you’re still here.

by Anonymousreply 92October 4, 2025 1:42 AM

PS numerous womens carved out vaginas were found frozen in his house. He was preserving their vulvas. So the idea he only killed two people is false. Only two KNOWN while the rest are unknown women.

And he killed his own brother.

[Quote] It's like turning "I Spit On Your Grave" into a movie of the week.

by Anonymousreply 95October 4, 2025 1:56 AM

R93 the vulvas weren’t frozen but kept in a box.

But he had a box filled with numerous vulvas. He would save them after he killed a woman and the box had numerous vulvas, implying he killed numerous women but only a couple were identified.

by Anonymousreply 96October 4, 2025 1:57 AM

I fucked him before.

by Anonymousreply 97October 4, 2025 1:57 AM

Ed Gein only CONFESSED to killing two women. That doesn’t mean he didn’t kill more. He also exhumed numerous bodies from the nearby cemetery and made them into masks and more things. And he killed his brother even though he never confessed to it either.

Ed and his brother were allegedly fighting a fire near their home when Ed came running back home claiming he couldn’t find his brother and then the cops came and they found Henry dead on the ground. He had markings on his body and head like he’d been hit numerous times but the police didn’t do an autopsy and just declared asphyxiation as the cause of death.

by Anonymousreply 102October 4, 2025 2:13 AM

This season is bizarre but more even than the previous season.

The first episode jumps into it all pretty fast then episode 2 is a slow burn then 3 feels like a horror movie and incredibly unnerving, 4 and 5 are just weird and slow and then episode 6 is CRAZY and wild.

I haven’t watched 7 and 8 yet.

by Anonymousreply 106October 4, 2025 5:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 107October 4, 2025 5:06 AM

Are they actually trying to make ed Gein sexy?

by Anonymousreply 108October 4, 2025 5:19 AM

Kinda R108. Or maybe Charlie Hunnam can't help being sexy.

by Anonymousreply 109October 4, 2025 5:54 AM

It’s what Ryan Murphy does r109 r109.

Dahmer didn’t have abs. The Menendez brothers didn’t look like either actor. And Ed Gein didnt look like Charlie Hunnam.

Ryan Murphy knows what he’s doing and he does it intentionally.

by Anonymousreply 110October 4, 2025 6:09 AM

Ed Gein was small in stature. He was short and thin.

Ryan Murphy knows having hot guys play the roles sells more than having guys who actually resemble the monsters.

He makes them look as close to the real people facially (he did great with Peters and Hunnam) but the body is hot.

by Anonymousreply 111October 4, 2025 6:17 AM

by Anonymousreply 115October 4, 2025 6:32 AM

Perkins didn’t seem so much a creep to me but just paranoid and scared and worried. He was so paranoid all the time, which I’m sure being a gay man in 1960 does to you, especially one who wants to be an actor.

by Anonymousreply 116October 4, 2025 6:40 AM

There are comics about Gein and all. There have been killers over the decades who studied him and idolized him. It’s bizarre.

by Anonymousreply 117October 4, 2025 6:50 AM

The finale was good but all fake.

Ed Gein didn’t help with finding Ted Bundy.

There is no proof that Richard Speck idolized Ed Gein. He did know of him but never wrote to him.

And of course Ryan couldn’t not exploit Richard Speck having tits and being the pass around in prison. I remember that infamous video that leaked in the 90s that caused a media frenzy because no one knew how Richard had access to a camera and the fact he was living his best life in prison with unlimited drugs and special treatment and being all the mens pass around bottom

Am also now a vegan.

by Anonymousreply 133October 4, 2025 1:12 PM

R132 he probably lied. As usual. He doesn’t even understand that Ed Gein isn’t a figure for the amount he killed but for his story and life.

Also, He ended up being diagnosed schizophrenic after being in a mental hospital for a while because he was deemed unfit for trial. That’s why he could hear his (dead) mother talking to him and others and kept seeing people who weren’t really there.

Yes he murdered two people (and potentially his brother) but he seemed genuinely mentally troubled and wasn’t just doing it for his own rush etc. like so many others. He at least showed remorse for what he did eventually, something many others never did.

Not making excuses for what he did, he was still a murderer, but it was sad. It didn’t help his mother was awful to him and it deeply affected him.

by Anonymousreply 134October 4, 2025 1:19 PM

Murphy loves turning these murderers into sympathetic figures. It’s bizarre.

by Anonymousreply 135October 4, 2025 2:24 PM

R70, what happened to the left side of his face?

by Anonymousreply 136October 4, 2025 4:51 PM

They made him look like the person he’s playing, Ed Gein

by Anonymousreply 137October 4, 2025 5:01 PM

Hunnam claims he shot a full frontal for "Queer As Folk" but wasn't used.

by Anonymousreply 138October 4, 2025 5:08 PM

In terms of disgusting criminals, what Ed Kemper did with his own mother takes the cake.

by Anonymousreply 139October 4, 2025 5:09 PM

I can’t with the voice.

by Anonymousreply 140October 4, 2025 5:18 PM

This isn’t a competition r139. But yes.

by Anonymousreply 141October 4, 2025 5:18 PM

R89 He killed those two people in an extremely graphic and gruesome manner. He also exhumed numerous women from the cemetery and (to put it very lightly) desecrated their bodies.

People's mothers, sisters, daughters, grandmothers and aunts had their bodies violated, crudely dismembered and "fashioned" into furniture and macabre arts and crafts projects.

That is the stuff of nightmares.

by Anonymousreply 142October 4, 2025 6:56 PM

Yes. He made a body suit out of women’s skin and would carve out their vulvas and dry them out so he could keep them.

He also would sometimes fuck the dead womans body after digging her up, before dismembering her.

by Anonymousreply 143October 4, 2025 6:58 PM

He didn’t kill too many people that we know of but he’s one of the creepiest killers

by Anonymousreply 144October 4, 2025 7:07 PM

Tom Holland has never been a great actor, this is no exception.

by Anonymousreply 145October 4, 2025 7:16 PM

The final 15 minutes of episode 7 had me bawling my eyes out. The final episode too.

by Anonymousreply 146October 4, 2025 9:32 PM

Ryan Murphy is always going to put hot naked men in his movies. That's one of the perks of being a producer.

by Anonymousreply 147October 4, 2025 9:45 PM

This is a series. But yes.

by Anonymousreply 148October 4, 2025 9:49 PM

Does he show cock in this one like the Menadez one does?

by Anonymousreply 149October 4, 2025 10:15 PM

I hope itsh better than that dreadful Halshton bio seriesh!!

by Anonymousreply 150October 4, 2025 11:09 PM

R140 I've tried to watch episode one three different times and have only made it about 20 minutes into it due to the voice.

by Anonymousreply 151October 4, 2025 11:10 PM

R74 If the lighting on that Peacock Gacy show was lit any darker, I'd see more with a bag over my head. WTF is with these filmmakers lately?

by Anonymousreply 152October 4, 2025 11:51 PM

Reddit HAAAAAATES it.

I think it's absolutely brilliant. who's the monster? they're all monsters. I haven't been as captivated since AHS season 1. All the awards.

by Anonymousreply 153October 5, 2025 12:05 AM

Tyler Jacob Moore is hot.

by Anonymousreply 154October 5, 2025 12:19 AM

Reddit HATES everything

by Anonymousreply 155October 5, 2025 12:36 AM

This show is being torn to shreds over all its inaccuracies. It’s another Feud.

by Anonymousreply 156October 5, 2025 2:27 AM

R156 same as season 1 and 2. You’re acting like this is the first season that has this. All biopics take liberties.

You’re on Reddit too much. Maybe put that time into a job and help your family out.

by Anonymousreply 157October 5, 2025 2:46 AM

All biopics take liberties, but this one is pretty ridiculous

Why did they give him a cute blond "girlfriend" who never existed in real life? Adds nothing to the story

by Anonymousreply 158October 5, 2025 1:16 PM

Every single one of these types of movies and shows takes ridiculous amounts of liberties. This isn’t even as big an Offender as some to them

Adeline is the one thing that’s truly made up and of course the timeline can be messed up or how the events went down.

People keep making shit up online. I saw someone on tiktok arguing he never made furniture out of peoples skin even though he did in fact. And people in the comments like “oh wow I didn’t know that’s made up” when it isn’t made up. A bunch of Gen Z slow people who are grown with second grade reading comprehension talking about shit they don’t know about.

by Anonymousreply 159October 5, 2025 1:43 PM

I don’t really watch Murphy productions for historical accuracy. I’ve come to realize he blends the truth with fictional storytelling. You’d be hard pressed to get 8 hours of a watchable series without adding dramatic elements. It’s meant to be an interpretation of Gein’s life. People need to understand that about Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 160October 5, 2025 1:54 PM

Adeline was an actual person, so not “truly made up”. I do doubt the REAL Adeline knew what Gein was up to.

The next Monster: will be Lizzie Borden, played by Ella Beatty. Ryan Murphy sure loves to cast the offspring of famous folks. She went to Juilliard and was pretty good in Feud:Swans, so not totally egregious, I guess.

I love Vicky Krieps (watch CORSAGE if you haven’t) so it was nice to see her in this Gein story and to read she will be in the Borden installment.

by Anonymousreply 162October 5, 2025 2:07 PM

How will Ryan work some hunky guys into the Lizzie Borden story?

by Anonymousreply 163October 5, 2025 2:24 PM

The bartender, Mary, who was shot, what shows has she been in? She looked so familiar, but we can’t think from where. Help.

by Anonymousreply 164October 5, 2025 2:26 PM

Mike & Molly^^ Mike’s mom

by Anonymousreply 165October 5, 2025 2:28 PM

Thank you, R165!

by Anonymousreply 166October 5, 2025 2:30 PM

This feels like the last thing in the world I would want to see: re-enactment of torture and murder to titillate and shock, two prime objectives of most of his projects.

At least most of the friends and relatives of the victims of this killer are dead and won’t have to bear all the press surrounding another of his series, unlike the Dahmer one.

by Anonymousreply 167October 5, 2025 3:23 PM

Reddit likes awful shit but they probably hate this because they're so infested with trans and even the trans run the women's subs. No doubt they feel this is making them look bad.

by Anonymousreply 168October 6, 2025 2:43 AM

Or maybe they just realize that the show isn't that good? And they can see through Murphy and his bag of tricks

by Anonymousreply 169October 6, 2025 2:48 AM

The show is good.

And he wasn’t trans.

by Anonymousreply 170October 6, 2025 2:51 AM

Do they show him wearing a woman’s torso like a corset and dancing in the moonlight? I remember reading about Gein doing that years ago and even though it’s horrific the mental picture makes me laugh

by Anonymousreply 171October 6, 2025 2:57 AM

Old enough to remember Hocus Pocus when it first came out when I was nine, I could watch Tobias Jelinek get fucked for hours, tits or not.

by Anonymousreply 172October 6, 2025 3:09 AM

If it only takes murdering two people to be crowned a "serial killer," you'd think more people would take it up.

by Anonymousreply 173October 6, 2025 3:24 AM

Laurie Metcalf was giving me Mrs. Peacock from the "Home" episode of the X-Files.

by Anonymousreply 174October 6, 2025 4:27 AM

Ed Gein did have a girlfriend, but she looked nothing like like that blonde actress Suzanna Son.

R173 still doesn’t get it. How sad.

I’m so thankful I’m not stupid. He’s an amazing example of being STUPID

by Anonymousreply 176October 6, 2025 9:04 AM

Isn’t the true crime obsession all about what makes them tick?

Here we get simplified answers to that in the very first episode - hard family life, and being somewhat ostracized for how soft-spoken he was and how meek he seemed to be.

Everything else - Nazi atrocities, Hitchcock and the gang, other serial killers - feels like padding for that Full Season Order.

There really is no 8 hours of insightful material here. I wish these ‘auteurs’ would push back on that Netflix standard. Give us 3-4-5 tight episodes, or just a good movie.

by Anonymousreply 177October 6, 2025 11:17 AM

I know he used it before, the beginning of Coven, but I liked the Iron Butterfly (Dolarhyde/Manhunter) homage about halfway through the series, another caricature character inspired by Gein.

by Anonymousreply 178October 6, 2025 2:38 PM

The cast and Ian Brennan defend criticisms that the show glamorizes the murders and actions of Gein.

I think you're really misunderstanding what the show is about? It's pretty clearly about the lineage of Horror as Modern Entertainment -- from the Holocaust to Gein to Psycho to Exploitation Movies like the Nazisplitation of the 70s to Texas Chainsaw and Silence of the Lambs. It's just using Gein as its gateway. I think it's very smart and also total trash and I love it.

by Anonymousreply 180October 6, 2025 4:35 PM

None of those are reasons. The real reason is just schizophrenia. It could have been an email.

by Anonymousreply 181October 6, 2025 4:55 PM

r180, thank fuck for you. Not aimed at here but, having read reddit, thank fuck for you getting it.

by Anonymousreply 182October 6, 2025 6:31 PM

R180 is Ryan Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 183October 7, 2025 10:04 PM

This show sucks. I'm fucking tired of Adaline. Why did he make her such a big character? I hate her.

by Anonymousreply 184October 8, 2025 2:16 AM

No fucking way Bundy corresponded with vile trash like Richard Speck. No way. Also, they knew the Florida killings were Bundy because he did them after he escaped from jail. The question wasn't who, but rather where he was.

by Anonymousreply 185October 8, 2025 3:25 AM

Ridiculous that Gein told investigators that Bundy "had a type" when he (Bundy) was shown earlier in that same episode running into a dark room seemingly at random to attack the sleeping sorority girls. He didn't appear concerned with what "type" they were!

by Anonymousreply 186October 8, 2025 9:59 AM

It ain't a documentary.

by Anonymousreply 187October 8, 2025 10:14 AM

R186 But prior to that, Ted did have a physical type. The Florida incident was Ted going on an uncharacteristic rampage after being locked up for years. As one does.

Or look at it this way -- sorority girls in general were Ted's type. As opposed to hookers or truck stop waitresses.

by Anonymousreply 188October 8, 2025 10:22 AM

R185 of course they did not correspond. They were from different times buddy. Lmao.

The show isn’t saying they “corresponded”. What did you watch? The show is saying Ed Gein (or Hollywood’s version of Ed Gein) popularized and romanticized Gein and influenced others after him.

by Anonymousreply 189October 8, 2025 1:47 PM

The series is a lot smarter than people are giving it credit for because some people (Gen Z, cough) don’t understand what they’re watching.

The show is less about Gein himself than it is about Hollywood exploiting his story in various ways for their own gain and popularizing heinous acts like the ones he committed. That’s why we see so many jumps between him and Hollywoods versions of him.

by Anonymousreply 190October 8, 2025 1:49 PM

I just want to see him dance in the moonlight

by Anonymousreply 191October 8, 2025 1:55 PM

R190, it's a campy Ryan Murphy show. It's not "smart"...but I guess people are looking to attack "Gen Z" even though I'd wager most of the critics who've savaged this show are older than that

It's not Shakespeare

Ryan Murphy himself glamorizes murderers.

by Anonymousreply 192October 8, 2025 2:12 PM

Thank you for your facile take on the series, R192. Did you get triggered by the “Gen Z” comment? That’s what I’m guessing.

by Anonymousreply 193October 8, 2025 2:20 PM

R193 thinks all critics are "Gen Z"

And apparently thinks Ryan Murphy is Eugene O'Neill

by Anonymousreply 194October 8, 2025 2:31 PM

You’re quite the fabulist, R194. I’m sure this tactic permeates into several areas of your life.

by Anonymousreply 195October 8, 2025 2:34 PM

Couldn't have said it better myself r190.

It was intertexual, and not meant to be documentary in nature.

by Anonymousreply 196October 8, 2025 2:36 PM

“I don’t get this! I’m bored! Where’s my phone?!”

by Anonymousreply 197October 8, 2025 2:38 PM

Going on and on about Gen Z when professional critics who are well past 40 mostly hate the show

by Anonymousreply 198October 8, 2025 2:46 PM

Hunnam is playing creepy by not blinking. I stated watching episode one and in closeups, he isn't. My friend who knew nothing about him or saw him in anything before finished the show and said, just give the Emmy to him, he's that good.

by Anonymousreply 199October 8, 2025 3:02 PM

It took me a couple episodes to settle into that voice he was using, but once I “got it” I was really impressed. I thought his scenes with Lesley Manville were really powerful. Manville and Vicky Krieps will both be Emmy-nominated for this. To be honest, I’m not sure who I would choose to win. Today it’s Manville, tomorrow it could be Krieps.

Laurie Metcalf was great but that’s nothing I haven’t already seen from here. Manville was just devastating.

by Anonymousreply 200October 8, 2025 3:09 PM

R188 Yes, he did have a type, you're right. His type was people who looked like his ex. Long, dark hair, parted in the middle. This was all about getting back at the girl who broke his heart. He then wooed her back just to break up with her. All the women he killed for the most part, looked like her.

by Anonymousreply 201October 8, 2025 3:36 PM

So another Hollywood commentary on Hollywood. The snake snacking on its own tail again.

by Anonymousreply 202October 8, 2025 3:38 PM

Ryan Murphy just slaps his name on things these days - I'm sure there's an edict about a necessary allotment of gayness and nudity but he really isn't making this show. It's much more about Ian Brennan running things on the Monster shows

by Anonymousreply 203October 8, 2025 4:44 PM

Only got through the first episode. Dull and badly acted. Hunnam’s high pitched voice sounded completely fake.

by Anonymousreply 204October 8, 2025 5:34 PM

[quote]That’s why we see so many jumps between him and Hollywoods versions of him.

Who plays the Hollywood versions of him?

by Anonymousreply 205October 8, 2025 7:05 PM

A really sexy, brooding actor plays Anthony Perkins, that’s one of the versions later. I realized that he was on the second season of American Crime. He impressed me in this.

by Anonymousreply 206October 8, 2025 7:36 PM

Joey Pollari R206.

by Anonymousreply 207October 8, 2025 7:37 PM

Yes, R207. And the actor playing Tab Hunter was very hot.

by Anonymousreply 208October 8, 2025 7:38 PM

Why were Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins in this? Did they ever interact with Ed Geins?

by Anonymousreply 209October 8, 2025 7:43 PM

The show is doing better than season 2 did its first week. It’s a hit.

by Anonymousreply 210October 8, 2025 7:43 PM

[QUOTE] Why were Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins in this? Did they ever interact with Ed Geins?

Oh, Jesus. Why don’t you just fucking watch it.

by Anonymousreply 211October 8, 2025 7:49 PM

I’m not gonna watch torture porn.

by Anonymousreply 212October 8, 2025 7:50 PM

Then why are you on the thread?

by Anonymousreply 213October 8, 2025 7:54 PM

Then Google it. No one is going to sit here and explain the whole series to you.

(Although, if you’ve read the thread, your question has already been answered.)

by Anonymousreply 214October 8, 2025 7:55 PM

I'm currently watching "Le Serpent" series on Netflix, bases upon the real life serial killer, Charles Sobhraj. When you read the Wiki on him, it's flabbergasting how he got away with it all, got caught, and was eventually released after serving time. He's still alive. He's murdered at least 20 people and had 3 wives (all obsessed with him).
