Tasteful friends: Updated WASPy perfection in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, $2.15M
An 1856 red brick house with 3334 square feet, four bedrooms and 2.5 baths,
A couple of the bedrooms are a bit girly. The floral wallpaper would have to go in one, and some of the bedding in the Toile and Rose bedrooms could be simplified to better effect, but otherwise there's nothing I dislike. Of course the furnishing goes away with the owners, but it's a handsome house. The Chinese wallpapered rooms are great (less the somewhat granny chairs and Sheraton style sofa in one of the two rooms.) It's a rare example of where I don't have to zone out the owners' personal choices.
The price seems a little steep to me, but the place appears to be in perfect condition.

Lots of these in West Chester, PA too - perfectly classic brick houses in walkable town in affluent area within 45 min drive of Philadelphia. For those who age out of Philly, have kids or just want a chiller, safer vibe surrounded by countryside, I think these towns are great. I like that house a lot - and Doylestown, like West Chester, has a growing and livable restaurant and services scene. Unfortunately, the area has doubled in price since pandemic - fleeing NYers who realized the good value within 2 hours of NYC have raised prices almost to NY suburban levels.

Nice for the most part but the wallpaper would have to go.

Lovely. One flaw -- I hate hanging pots and pans. Looks like they'll crash down any minute.

If you cook in your kitchen and you are also the cleaner, but your damn pots in a cabinet away from the grease.

Only 2.5 baths? Hell no! I would never live somewhere without en suites. I mean, this is the year 2025, not 1025.

R6 is currently living in a basement studio in Jamaica, Queens and pissing in an old Folger's can.

Agree with all the comments. It's perfect with the exception of the wallpaper in a couple of the rooms.

R7, I’m not R6, but you’ve described almost a bit too accurately my life when I was in high school.
(Half a century later, it’s not massively different!)

That's fantastic, wallpaper and all - actually the wallpaper is my favourite part, but pretty much everything else about this house is great too. And its a manageable size as well

I like the wallpaper with the exception of one bathroom and one bedroom (with the dark rose pattern); the wild Chinese pattern in two of the main rooms is spectacular stuff.
The white painted built-in glazed china cabinet with the interior painted a coral/red as backdrop to the blue-&-white Chinese export porcelain is a great detail.

I like the clock on the wall in the kitchen.

Love it, though would change some (though not all) of the different busy wallpapers. Love all the built-ins.

R7, this is R6, and no I don't live there. I live in Brentwood , and it's one of the most affluent neighborhoods in America, and my home only has en suites, and even my parents and grandparents houses do too. It's almost barbaric when you think about it in modern times to not have en suites.

R6, I disagree. I do not like en suites. For some reason I do not wish to have a toilet right off my bedroom. Don't get me wrong, there should be a separate bathroom for the homeowners or parents, but I just don't like having a bathroom right there. I also believe separate bathrooms for couples are good things. Some things should remain a mystery.
I also do not like attached garages. I have no desire to live with my car.

What's barbaric is to think that a four bedroom house means that there are four bedrooms (each of which evidently requires an en suite bathroom).
Just because a realtor lists a house as having four potential bedrooms doesn't mean that the buyer needs or wants four bedrooms each with an en suite bathroom. Many people who buy a large old house with 4, 8, or 15 bedrooms have no intention of running a boarding house or expanding their family. There's no reason to wreck a fine old house to insert an en suite in every potential bedroom.far beyond the.actual.nwesnof bedrooms.
If the ratio of bedrooms and en suites IS of critical importance, buy another house, one where the bathrooms are not shoehorned in as an afterthought.
