I haven't watched TV in years and am not familiar the production process. According to Wikipedia, this show was renewed for a second season back in January of 2023. Why such a long gap before the second season's premier? Is that normal?

What I DO know, however, is that the internet seems to think that Jenna Ortega has done some weird shit to her face. Let's just hope it's weight loss and bad makeup.

I didn’t know until I started watching British television that a gap of 2-5 years between series is no big deal to them. I know it’s not all, but many do.

The first season caught on because of the dance scene that went viral on TikTok. The second hasn't had anything like that moment yet.

While I agree that shows are taking too long a break in between seasons lately, the strikes were the culprit for why this show took so long to come back

IMO, the 2nd season is B-O-R-I-N-G! Episode 2 was okay, but I thought the 1st and 3rd of season 2 was awful. SO MUCH going on in episode 3 and none of it interesting. I probably won't watch the 4th and just call it a day.

R24, I think the strike shares some of the blame, but Netflix has never been very good about getting shows on a regular schedule, and it kills the momentum for some of its biggest series. The first season of Squid Game was a phenomenon, but by the time the second season came out, no one cared.

While I don't think it'll bomb, this isn't a good sign for the return of Stranger Things later this year.

OP's link still isn't working for me. But I googled IGN after r23 mentioned it and their latest report doesn't say it's bombing, just that it's not a runaway hit.

Netflix usually only does 3 seasons of the majority of their original shows to fill their library. If it gets a third season it’ll probably be the last. Lady Gaga will definitely give it a much needed boost. Burton also just made her next music video.

As many said above, these streamers take way too damn long to renew and make new seasons of shows. Audiences all but move on now with a million things vying for their attention now.

Say what you will, but traditional television had the format down, and knew what worked.

I'm not finding S2 nearly as entertaining as S1 although they just released the second half, so have yet to watch the final four episodes.

However, I was entertained when I discovered that Joanna Lumley is playing our beloved CZJ mother.

There is too much CZJ in this season. Her take on Morticia is so flat.

I just got sick of Jenna Ortega’s rapid-fire snarky lines in every scene she’s in. It’s always a set-up statement or question so she can robotically fire off some sassy retort because, she’s just so, like, you know, cool and smart and all… 🙄

Tired crap

This reminds me a lot of season two of The Last of Us. They waited too long between seasons and the hype died down. Plus, the second seasons of both shows are vastly inferior to the first. I think the public has gotten tired of Jenna and Pedro Pascal.

Um, R43 season 2 of the Last of Us tanked specifically because Pedro was no longer in it.

Nah, R44. Pedro Pascal is the epitome of over-exposed audience fatigue. I guess one can't blame him for grabbing the cash while he can. He is not a young man and even the people who, bafflingly find him attractive won't for much longer; he's middle aged and losing what looks he has rapidly. He's everywhere and doesn't turn down anything, and I think people are just exhausted by seeing him. The smug personality doesn't help either.

His fans wouldn't have suddenly abandoned that show, knowing that he's still there in flashback scenes. The ratings tanked because the show burned out, as shows do. American producers just can't seem to put aside some of their greed and let a story play out over a couple of seasons. They have to go on forever and ever and people are gonna get sick of it. I think more people lately want to see a compelling story played out over two, maybe three seasons at most, and then move on. We don't have the time or desire anymore to follow something for 10-15 years. But Hollywood is now bankrupt of talent and when they score something that gets an audience, they have to drive it into the ground knowing there's rarely anything in the can to replace it.

I will say that the second half of S2 has much better pacing than the first half.

There Nevermore principal is turning into the revolving door like the Defense Against Dark Arts professorship at Hogwarts. It does provide an opportunity for a high(er) profile guest star for a single season.

However, I don't think this show has many more legs. S3 has been announced, but I don't see that it'll run beyond that.
