I guess this falls into the category of Takes One to Know One
Peter Thiel is doing a series of lectures on the Antichrist
by Anonymous | reply 122 | October 6, 2025 8:25 PM |
I hope it gets livestreamed. I would LOVE to hear this.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 22, 2025 6:09 PM |
So it’s autobiographical.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 22, 2025 6:11 PM |
This kaween has some big balls, I’ll give him that.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 22, 2025 6:12 PM |
[quote] Religious thinkers upon whom Peter will draw include René Girard, Francis Bacon, Jonathan Swift, Carl Schmitt, and John Henry Newman
I wasn't aware that Nazi jurist Carl Schmitt was considered a "religious thinker."
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 22, 2025 6:13 PM |
So, did he fuck J.D. Vance, or just share eyeliner beauty tips?
Hard to believe an out gay man would advocate outright repression of everyone, including his gay peers.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 22, 2025 7:04 PM |
Will he be speaking from the balcony?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 22, 2025 7:17 PM |
The lecture will be called The Peter Thiel Story

R1 it’s off the record per the announcement.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 22, 2025 8:10 PM |
ON the antichrist or AS the antichrist?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 22, 2025 8:22 PM |
The interview he gave to The Atlantic revealed a lot about delusions and obsessions. He wants to be frozen when he dies. He actually thinks a future society would be inclined to revive a man who spent his life trying to spread authoritarianism. Sweaty old ghoul.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 22, 2025 8:31 PM |
"These lectures are off-the-record. The lectures are designed as a cohesive series, with each session building on the last. To support continuity and community, tickets are only available for the full four-part program."
What does that mean? No transcripts, no broadcast? I can imagine there'll be some protest activity about.
I can't think of a more soulless person - except those in the current administration - to talk about faith. This is all coded talk about white supremacy.

Wasn't he outed by Dlisted, or something, which was why he bankrolled that useless lump of shit Hulk Hogan to be the front man in the Dlisted civil case/takedown?
He's no out and proud hero, that one.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 22, 2025 10:41 PM |
r20, it was Gawker, not Dlisted

Apparently, Thiel has been telling friends that King Charles doesn't have long to live and Prince William will assume the throne sooner rather than later.

He hasn't looked like that since he entered Stanford back in '85.

I listened to a pathologist explain how freezing would break down human tissue so freezing would never be viable. But, you know. Science. Amirite?

by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 23, 2025 5:06 PM |
Did any of you see the video of his long interview with Ross Douthat of the NYT? A couple months ago? Thiel was batshit crazy. Douthat asked him if he was ok with A.I. destroying ALL humans. He wouldn't answer. He's ok with the end of the human race in service of some extraordinary notion of God and Cosmos and Thiel's own Uber Mind. He's clearly mentally ill.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 23, 2025 5:13 PM |
This video does a good job of going into his horrible background, dead boyfriend, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 23, 2025 8:24 PM |
Why is it the worst people in the world are billionaires? And I’m certain they’re all just in some sort of dick measuring contest to see who can hoard the most money. It’s fucking obscene that a handful of people could do so much good in the world with their wealth but are instead ghouls who buy government just to save taxes and hoard even more wealth.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | August 23, 2025 8:45 PM |
I do like Thom Hartmann's phrase: the morbidly rich. I don't know that they all start that way. I think it is extremely difficult to be super rich, like billionaire rich, and not turn into a complete cunt. You are surrounded by sycophants, you have a ridiculously inflated sense of your own awesomeness, a lot of it is luck and being right place/right time, but you are easily convinced that it's all you, and it was destined. I think you have to make a huge effort not to turn into a complete cunt, and most simply won't make that effort.

by Anonymous | reply 69 | August 24, 2025 3:37 AM |
Any cock attached to Thiel is ugly by association, r69.
I think having a lot of money leads to an illiberal worldview, r62. People like Thiel and Musk genuinely believe that some people deserve rights more than others.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | August 24, 2025 4:21 AM |
They make an important point at the link at R60: these tech billionaires aren't all that smart. They started with advantages (family money, Stanford connections) and got lucky (where are all the would-be tech billionaires who made unlucky investments?) and now they're in a preach to tell the rest of us that "democracy has failed" and should be replaced by a tech dictatorship—failed, that is, to let them prey on the rest of us without consequences.

Read an interesting article on substack looking at all his statements on religion. I kinda wish there was more analysis. To me it really seems like he is more inspired by the theories René Girard rather than any real religious belief.

Wonder if Nicholas Galitzine’s name will ever come up about him being Thiel’s little twink & who got Galitzine’s name out there (cast couching)
by Anonymous | reply 103 | September 29, 2025 1:30 PM |
It is clear in the bible (which Thiel is trying to defend) that "Man is not able to direct his own step". That is not implying Calvinism, it's simply saying most people have no idea what they are doing.
Yet within the article quoted above, he talks about how he is trying to 'weave' a path between Armageddon and 'Antichrist'- "I would like to find some narrow path between these two where we can avoid both" ... um, he has very, very little idea of what he's talking about.
What a joke, he only gets airtime because he's a well-known shitstain loudmouth with a lot of opinions, his theology is a cobbled-together amateur mess.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | September 29, 2025 4:11 PM |
It's a sign of late-stage American rightwingery that Ayn Rand silliness has ultimately coalesced with Late Great Planet Earth silliness. Apart from their determination to rake up all our money, these people are just not to be taken seriously.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | September 29, 2025 9:13 PM |
The Antichrist is a wholly owned subsidiary of Palantir Technologies.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | September 29, 2025 9:26 PM |
Possible that THE antichrist will be a movement whereby Christianity could be banned and outlawed.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | September 29, 2025 10:42 PM |
R107 - Another issue being, of course, is that 99.9% of what is claimed to be Christianity is just plain old paganism with a little Christianity thrown in to make it 'respectable'.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | September 30, 2025 1:04 AM |
R108 An analysis that is profoundly true but lost in the wilderness of the current content-generating miasma of digital representation and reproduction (like a virus): what is known, practiced, promulgated, saluted as "Christianity" not only isn't aligned with the teachings of Jesus, it's often contradictory.
You say Paganism... I think it's more problematic than paganism. Hubris, narcissism, bigotry, avarice, mendacity - mean and small little men.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | September 30, 2025 2:33 PM |
R109 - Yes, absolutely. It's all of it in a moronic mish-mash.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | September 30, 2025 3:04 PM |
And even more fun r109, Christians were doing so much shit early on that we really don't know what the teaching of Jesus really were, and how much is the teaching of this or that self-proclaimed apostle, disciple, bishop, rando, whoever managed to get their book or forged letter or whatever accepted by other Christians. It was a disorganized mess at first and nobody can be sure exactly what happened in the first century. All we know is that at some point around 100 AD a bunch of people scattered around a big empire were calling themselves Christians and felt some connection to each other and to someone named Jesus.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | September 30, 2025 3:16 PM |
R111 - There is even a dispute recorded in the bible about circumcision. Now, that was recorded as resolved in the story, but it does show that there were arguments going on even then.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | September 30, 2025 3:21 PM |
R111 Sure, what became the New Testament and how that scripture was used to build a "church" and a body of believers was varied, confused, skewed by culture, human dissembling, competitions, power grabs.... but biblical textural scholarship can track how a lot of that accrued in the gospels.
There is, however, some consistent ideas and principles in the recorded teachings... even in the Dead Sea Scrolls which did not make the cut. The Beatitudes/Sermon on the Mount, and key parables, the "only Law" - Love God and love others as yourself... Was there an historical Jesus? Unclear. Were these teachings recorded early in the first and second centuries. Yep. The comparison is to the teachings, not the history of the development of a Christian community of believers, and then a formal religion.
Off topic, perhaps. I am a follower of those teachings. I am not a Christian.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | September 30, 2025 3:42 PM |
tick-tock. Wanna place a wager on how long before Peter donates his mega $ billions to some scary AF, Christian evangelical 'pastor'. An awful lot of damage can be done with that move.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | September 30, 2025 3:48 PM |
R114, not a chance, he's too greedy. Besides, and I've said this here on DL so much that I'm tired of it, the liquidity of (especially) tech people is NOTHING that the lower/middle class fantasizes about.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | September 30, 2025 4:57 PM |
I do mostly agree with you r113. However it happened, there is some kind of core Christianity and people who claim to uphold it should be held to that standard. If you say you love your neighbor, maybe act like it. And the whole rest of it.
Not so sure about real words and actions recorded in the first century, but I admit that's a separate issue. Maybe Paul had the right idea all along. Talk to the Risen Christ and don't worry so much about what any earthly Jesus did or did not say or do. I'm fascinated by those questions, but that certainly doesn't have to be everyone's interest.
And of course we all do that all the time. Applying some big principles to an ever changing world and reaching different conclusions about how best to apply them. But that doesn't mean nobody recognizes complete hypocrisy when they see it.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | September 30, 2025 5:55 PM |
R116 Way off topic, and I apologize to the thread. But... I am 75 and have read scripture, exegesis, scholarship for decades and decades... and I find much of what is attributed to St Paul (there's a problem there, right?) to be contradictory, obscure, unwarranted in claims that it "follows" from the Gospels. Yes, a lot of it was "written" before the Gospels, which may be one reason it represents Greek Stoicism, skepticism, Platonism... Maybe he should just have been left alone on the road to Damascus.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | September 30, 2025 6:27 PM |
Well yes absolutely r117. First of all, a lot of it is outright forgery, like half the letters. Decades later by people pretending to be him and trying to settle much later controversies that Paul himself wouldn't have given a damn about. That's pretty much consensus, although like everything else in that period nobody will ever be 100% certain about anything. But pretty damn clear. On top of that, all kinds of interpolation and hey, let's add a line here, and often at best, let's sew a couple of letters together and call them one big letter. Yup all that I'm sure was happening. And that is definitely going to lead to contradictions and weirdness.
And on top of that, Paul himself may have been more than a little nuts. I think he really did think he was having visions and conversations and all sorts of other things going on entirely in his own head. He practically says so, but of course, for him they're all real.
