Why finals on Monday?

It's been a walk in the park for Sinner and only a few stones in Alcaraz's path on their way to the Cincy finals. Betting on a threepeat of these two in another Slam final this year. Are there any real contenders to turn the Big Two into the Big Three or Big Four? If anything, it looks like they've solidified their reign at the top.

I think it was intended to give the men a bit more recovery time heading into the US Open. It would've also been better for ratings in Europe. The scheduling in Cincy and Canada was already terrible without the mixed doubles stunt in Queens. As unrealistic as it is for Sinner now that he's ill, it's nuttier for Swiatek even if she remains healthy.

Bad news —Terence Atmane, the great surprise of the ATP Cincinnati 2025 tournament, has withdrawn from the qualifying rounds of the US Open 2025. The Frenchman cited fatigue and tiredness as the main reasons for his withdrawal, as when the cut was made for the fourth Grand Slam of the year, he would have had to play the qualifying matches to be in the main draw.

The new USO "Mixed Doubles Showcase" seems to be a home run, no matter the legit misgivings those opposed may have. Casual fans want to see stars - and these days most of those stars are usually players who focus on singles.

Stadiums packed the week before the main events start. The matches have been fun.

In future, why not run the 'stars' mixed doubles event during the quallies week, and then the regular mixed doubles event during the main event?

Best of both worlds - gives the event the viewing and interest boost in the run-up week, and doesn't penalise the regular mixed doubles players who are missing out on one of their few significant opportunities to win decent $$$$.

Not a bad idea, but they won't do it. Regular mixed doubles players are also regular women's/mens doubles players. They have an entire discipline that is untouched by this. Mixed doubles doesn't exist at the junior or college level. It's played sparingly at the pro level. I don't feel too sorry for players missing out on mixed in one tournament - especially when they still have the regular doubles tournaments.

Tennis has-been Mardy Fish talking shit on former #1 Doubles player, and 6 time major champion Rajeev "Rampras" Ram. Mardy still salty because of his poor decision as the Davis Cup captain. Raj is considered one of the nicer guys on the tour.

Because it's essentially an exhibition meant to draw people due to the recognizable top players playing, and the top players aren't going to play four rounds of full scoring mixed doubles matches the week before the tournament. Both stadiums were packed on the Tuesday before the USO, so it worked. Most fans want to see stars.

Yes, it's completely silly and I'm skeptical of calling the winners of the USO Open Mixed Doubles Showcase true Grand Slam champions. But Stacey McAllister - head of the USTA - talked about the the changes earlier this year and this is EXACTLY what she wanted. Viewership, full stadiums, buzz. I'd be surprised if they changed it.

I would absolutely love if the Italian doubles specialists won the mixed tournament. A lot of the recreational community play doubles, and I still think there's an interest. Singles will always rule for ratings, but doubles should always have a place at the adults' table, and not the kids' table.
