The first pic is from 1985. In the video, It's hard to tell with the wig and the huge glasses.

I remember 10 years ago when she was in the 2015 PIPPIN revival tour, she said in an interview she had quite an exercise routine to keep in shape so she could do all the singing /acting on the trapeze each night for the show. I remember she said she was performing 20 feet above the audience with no net below - so she needed her core strength to do the role.

[quote]so she needed her core strength to do the role

As did Andrea, Lucie, Tovah, and Annie. Those gals are disciplined.

[quote]Iconic '80s Actress 'Looks Fantastic'

Is EVERYBODY iconic??

by Anonymousreply 5August 16, 2025 3:57 AM

Yes, every celebrity is either "iconic" or "criminally underrated." In all fairness, Adrienne's boobs probably WERE iconic.

She looks great!

Who's the frumpy woman sitting next to her in the blue tee shirt in the video ? Is she supposed to be important ?

by Anonymousreply 7August 16, 2025 4:03 AM

Sorry Stockard, you're the camp Rizzo. Adrienne is the first and always.

For 20 years, I've wished Y&R would can Jess Walton and hire Barbeau to play Jill Foster Abbott.

As I had said before, Norman Lear used to scour the Broadway musical comedies, and pick out who he thought he could turn into a television star (Jean Stapleton, Sherman Hemsley, Michael Evans, Bonnie Franklin, etc.) and Barbeau was one of those finds. He found her on B'way playing 'Rizzo' and knew he found the girl to play Maude's daughter, Carol, when the show went to series in 1972. In the AITF episode where we are first introduced to 'Carol' at her engagement party, she was played by another popular actress at the time. But Lear didn't think she could carry a whole weekly series as a supporting actress to Arthur. He met Barbeau backstage towards the end of her run, and made her an offer.

Barbeau said she took an instant liking to Lear, and thought the concept for the program (especially for the new decade) was timely. The only problem was, she hadn't watched a television show in 'years' since the apartment she was renting as a 'struggling theater actress' had no television. She hadn't heard of AITF, and was familiar with Bea Arthur by name on B'way, but never met her and never saw her few episodes on AITF, and didn't know anything about her Maude character. She told one of her friends from 'Grease' about the offer Lear made her, and her friend told her she had to take it. She told her AITF was the biggest hit show on TV, and Maude was sure to be a huge hit. She convinced her if it didn't work out in LA, she could always resume her career in musicals on B'way. So Barbeau called Lear back a few days after, and accepted the offer.

I always wondered why Rocky calls her name out in the movie. Is it because of her big tits?

by Anonymousreply 13August 16, 2025 3:38 PM

^^^ Rose NLI

by Anonymousreply 14August 16, 2025 3:38 PM

Rose would never say "big tits." At most she would say, "enormous bazooms."

by Anonymousreply 15August 16, 2025 3:42 PM

Why did Lucie Arnaz leave the national tour in October 2014, to be replaced by Barbeau for the rest of the lengthy tour ? Was it too much for her ?

by Anonymousreply 16August 16, 2025 3:51 PM

Big tits big tits big tits a million times!

by Anonymousreply 17August 16, 2025 3:58 PM

Is her book "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" any good? Any juicy tit bits?

by Anonymousreply 18August 17, 2025 10:13 PM

Re: Bill Macy

“ Bill had performed in the nude in Oh! Calcutta! and he loved to drop his pants. He thought it was funny. The first time he did it in rehearsal, I took one look at his penis and yelled, "Props!" Even that didn't stop him. Early on in our first season, the Writer's Guild had a big, black-tie affair honoring Bud and Norman. We were all seated at large round tables in our evening gowns and tuxedos, facing the stage where celebrity after celebrity stood to tell funny, scripted stories about our two bosses. Bill downed a bottle of wine and jumped up on the stage to grab the microphone. "Cocksuckers of the world, unite!" he yelled and proceeded to unzip his fly.”

by Anonymousreply 20August 17, 2025 11:28 PM

R20 Bea told that story "cocksuckers of the world unite" in her 5 part Television Academy interview in 2001.

Rue once said that Bea was often embarrassed by Bill. He would say something stupid on stage and Bea would slide down under the table lol.

by Anonymousreply 21August 17, 2025 11:33 PM

Adrienne also wrote about the aftermath:

“ The next day CBS held closed-door meetings to decide whether or not Bill had violated his morals clause and should be released. The Television Academy insisted that Norman fire him. Norman refused.”

The Academy said that they were going to refuse to give awards to his shows.
