Democrats embrace Newsom’s mocking of Trump and MAGA online culture

This is what we should have been doing a long time ago.

The other Dem. " candidates" who want to run for president had better get off their collective ass and start raising the fury that he has started or they will be left in the dust. The people want a warrior who will fight the Orange Menace, not namby pambies who speak in front of small audiences and who might get a mention on the nightly local news. I can't see how they don't realize this; or maybe they think it's too early and fear "shooting their wad" too early. Wrong. There is a midterm next yr and people are desperate for a Dem figurehead to lead a revolution. This is not a time to play politics as usual and Newsom has realized that.

by Anonymousreply 1August 15, 2025 2:32 PM

You are probably right, but a shame nonetheless that this is where politics have evolved.

by Anonymousreply 2August 15, 2025 2:33 PM

It is a shame, but, since this is the case, the Dems cannot sit back and try to pretend that "politics as usual" is going to get them anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 3August 15, 2025 2:43 PM

Totally agree, R1 and R3. We need other Democrats to rise up and start fighting.

by Anonymousreply 4August 15, 2025 3:04 PM

[quote]We need other Democrats to rise up and start fighting.

How do big mouths AOC and Jasmine feel about Newson? What does Bernie think of him?

Are those Dems, with popularity and big followings, going to get behind him?

by Anonymousreply 5August 15, 2025 3:08 PM

As Democrats we need to put aside our purity concerns and milquetoast-y handwringing over civility and long-jettisoned political and cultural norms. It's simply not 1995 anymore and we need to evolve to win in the future. Yes, I hate that this is what politics has become, but I hate what our country has become a lot more. We need to win it back -- we need to WIN.

by Anonymousreply 6August 15, 2025 3:15 PM

That is why I said OTHER Democrats. It feels as though we are in a leadership vacuum. We need to stop licking our wounds and start fighting back.

by Anonymousreply 7August 15, 2025 3:16 PM

No argument there, R7. 💯

by Anonymousreply 8August 15, 2025 3:20 PM

Dave Weigel reports that "Newsom accused Abbott of "rolling over" for Trump. Fox News asked for a statement: Was Newsom making fun of Abbott's wheelchair? Newsom's office responded with pure mockery about how Fox had gone woke."

by Anonymousreply 9August 15, 2025 3:30 PM

The problem with Democrats is continually waiting for Republicans to do the right thing. When all they continually do is go lower and lower. Newsom absolutely has the right idea of trolling Dump and meeting MAGA on their own level. Every other blue state needs to do the same, and not just wait and see. Texas says it’s going to redistrict? Every blue state needs to just go ahead and do it.

by Anonymousreply 10August 15, 2025 3:34 PM

Along those lines, it is incumbent for leaders of the far left progressives to put aside the pettiness and unite to defeat the Republicans. Maybe the Dems don't satisfy all of your demands, but you are going to get none if the Repubs keep control of Congress. In fact, ALL of your concerns will be met with a smirk and policies which will assure a removal of any progress that had already been made. This goes for all Dems and Independents - we have a common enemy and it shouldn't be us.

by Anonymousreply 11August 15, 2025 3:35 PM

Absolutely R11. Sitting out also just means a vote for MAGA rule.

by Anonymousreply 12August 15, 2025 3:50 PM

I approve!

I imagine he hired a group of young comedy writers to handle his social media reactions.

by Anonymousreply 14August 15, 2025 4:13 PM

He's pretty quickwitted, but I hope he has help to keep up the momentum, r14

by Anonymousreply 15August 15, 2025 5:31 PM

The great thing about this is that Newsom is infinitely smarter than anyone in the Trump administration so his trolling will always be sharper.

by Anonymousreply 16August 15, 2025 5:41 PM

Good.

I gate that we have devolved to this, but maybe that’s what it will take to get the maggot chuds to realize how goddam stupid they all look with this same behavior.

They should be mocked endlessly. Bullies hate to be mocked or stood up to. Democrats are the creative types, so we really should unleash a creative, raw and unfiltered hell upon them.

We’ve been holding our creativity and snark back, thinking it was beneath us to “go low”. I say we nuclear winter those talentless, humorless , brain dead motherfuckers immediately.

by Anonymousreply 17August 15, 2025 5:42 PM

What have we heard from hopefuls Shapiro, Walz, Beshear, and Pritzker? News show appearances and town visits are the old way, more suitable for just before the election. But, social media is where it's at now and the Dems are woefully behind the MAGAts in that aspect. If they hope to get any traction, they need to hop on the train now.

by Anonymousreply 18August 15, 2025 5:51 PM

Newsom is the ONLY Democrat fighting back in a meaningful way. As of right now, he has my vote in the next Democratic primary.

Whatever negatives he may or may not have, they pale in comparison to Trump's endless scandals and corruption that didn't cost him one single vote.

by Anonymousreply 19August 15, 2025 5:52 PM

I think this is pure genius and recycling Dump's decadent tropes, fueled by his disordered personality, his faux delusion of grandeur, the bullying, the insults, the constant projection of his own insecurities, coming from a major political opponent is going to open the eyes of more than a few MAGAts as to how aberrant and childish Trump's MO has always have been and how it can be deconstructed by those who are not MAGA.

I'm just left wondering why it took 10 years to come up with the idea.

by Anonymousreply 20August 15, 2025 6:07 PM

We should also revive 'weird', which was effective until the Democratic PTB shut it down.

by Anonymousreply 21August 15, 2025 6:12 PM

" Weird" will only remind people of Tim Walz and the failed Democratic campaign; time for something new. How about, " depraved," "traitorous," or " fucking criminal"?

by Anonymousreply 22August 15, 2025 6:23 PM

Newsom has found his groove. Voted for him every time he ran for mayor and gov, but was pissed when he acted like a douche bro on Joe Rogan or whatever podcast. Already forgave him for marrying Kimberly Guilfoyle long ago.

by Anonymousreply 23August 15, 2025 8:02 PM

I'm fully on board with this approach. Someone else described it thus: enough with the DNC's Father Merrin act of saving the nation's "soul" from evil.

by Anonymousreply 24August 15, 2025 8:16 PM

[quote] How about, " depraved," "traitorous," or " fucking criminal"?

How about ugly?

by Anonymousreply 25August 15, 2025 8:18 PM

Keep it weird Gav!

by Anonymousreply 26August 15, 2025 9:42 PM

[quote] How about ugly?

Unfuckable.

Republicans = a person so unfuckable they end up a depraved incel child rapist.

by Anonymousreply 27August 15, 2025 10:02 PM

He's a moderate liberal with a quick wit, fearless demeanor, he hates Trump AND can beat him at his own social media game.

I'm all fucking in with Gavin. I know, I know he's a Californian. But who the fuck cares? He fights like a winner and that's what we need right now.

by Anonymousreply 28August 15, 2025 10:23 PM

"Better NewScum, than Pew Diaper Dump."

Call us, Gavin!

by Anonymousreply 29August 15, 2025 10:26 PM

[quote]It feels as though we are in a leadership vacuum.

My god, yes!

Our Democratic leaders seem helpless to do any leading.

So, others are stepping up. Cory Booker does a 25-hour filibuster. Gavin is filing lawsuits, leading initiatives and trolling Trump and the Republicans.

At least a few people are trying to offer leadership since the Dems in Washington who should be providing that leadership are incapable of doing it.

by Anonymousreply 30August 15, 2025 10:31 PM

Demented works. The only language magats understand are insults and slurs, so they must be insulted and slurred at every opportunity. Profanely. Vulgarly. Shockingly so. Deride them. Make fun of their misfortune. The “be kind” contingent will have to shut the fuck up. There are no standards anymore. Decorum is dead. When they go low, we go subterranean.

by Anonymousreply 31August 16, 2025 12:02 AM

California’s GDP is $4 trillion. He don’t give a fuck. “Go ahead, threaten to pull funds. I’ll pull our fed taxes”

by Anonymousreply 32August 16, 2025 12:26 AM

Anti-MAGA comedian does his set.

[quote] He's a moderate liberal with a quick wit, fearless demeanor, he hates Trump AND can beat him at his own social media game.

He was a progressive when he was Mayor of San Francisco.

by Anonymousreply 35August 18, 2025 2:06 AM

And Dump was once a Democrat what's your point?

by Anonymousreply 36August 18, 2025 2:09 AM

I absolutely love what Newsom is doing. He's not just doing Trump either - he's doing all the MAGA politicians. Like someone posted above - Newsom is infinitely smarter than anyone in MAGA so he is running circles around them. That tweet at R13 is priceless.

by Anonymousreply 37August 18, 2025 2:17 AM

OP’s picture has me wondering…when Bradley Cooper is going to write, produce, direct and star in a movie about the life of Jesus?

Maybe he can cast Gaga as Mary Magdalene

by Anonymousreply 38August 18, 2025 3:18 AM

More of this.

by Anonymousreply 39August 18, 2025 3:28 AM

r35, that's debatable. He was a very pro-business, Downtown interests establishment Democrat, liberal on social issues such as Gay Marriage. I thought he was just a Union Street Douche Bro and didn't vote for him the first time, but did the second time. What he's doing now is exactly what we need and I hope other Democrats join him.

by Anonymousreply 40August 18, 2025 3:57 AM

At least he finally and out against the tranny insanity, opening the door for more on the Left to speak out against it. The trouble for him is the state of California under him. He wrecked the economy and turned the place into a nightmare. The state had a surplus before him. He also had a million skeletons in his closet from being a sex pest to being in rehab. He even fucked Trump Jr’s whore and she will come out with all types of shit about him like she did at Fox News.

by Anonymousreply 41August 18, 2025 4:03 AM

R35 I was a progressive back then, too. Progressives were doing amazing things in 2006.

Progressives in 2025 are insane.

He's a moderate liberal now...and now is what matters.

by Anonymousreply 42August 18, 2025 4:33 AM

Newsom hardly "ruined" California's economy. Try news sources other than Fox talking points.

by Anonymousreply 43August 18, 2025 4:51 AM

Prepare to be inundated with AI slop going forward, from both sides. Elections will never be the same again.

by Anonymousreply 44August 18, 2025 5:05 AM

He shouldn't be the only one to do this. More Dems need to be vocal about mocking the traitor so his mental illness can progress and do him in.

by Anonymousreply 45August 18, 2025 5:21 AM

We don't need Trump rattled, we need Dems to turn out to vote like the pigs do on the other side. That should be the guiding light for all Dem politicians, everything else is just early campaigning for the primary.

by Anonymousreply 46August 18, 2025 5:33 AM

R41 is repeating Fox News talking points word for word. So boring.

by Anonymousreply 47August 18, 2025 7:54 AM

R44, this is not "AI slop."

The other day on 'The Five on FOX' they brought up Newson mocking Trump and his messaging, and said 'this isn't how you treat an opponent'. They warned you don't 'mark and ridicule', you treat them with respect - but this is how low 'the Democrats have sunk'.

And not one of the five broke out in laughter and said, "Oh, my sides! Who wrote this shit for us to say ?"

by Anonymousreply 50August 18, 2025 11:55 AM

r48 No, OP's photo is textbook AI slop. Zero creativity, zero artistic value involved.

I'd actually argue that most AI used for political purposes is automatically slop. At least when you're making a campaign video, someone or several people are getting paid for it. I could see a situation when the whole of candidate's ad campaign is just one person writing prompts into an AI chatbot and posting those pictures on social media? Don't need rallies anymore either, since those can be faked with AI too now.

by Anonymousreply 51August 18, 2025 1:20 PM

R51, you’re out of touch. He’s just using the same AI shit Trump posts himself on social media.

by Anonymousreply 52August 18, 2025 1:49 PM

That image is AI - notice how the fingers on both are all chewed up - like they got stuck in a meat grinder.

Ol' Gav is trolling DUMP good - he has yet to say anything unless he hasn't gotten wind of the posts yet. I suspect he's intimidated by Newsom to a certain extent unlike the black mayors of LA and DC saying they are cesspools riddled with crime.

by Anonymousreply 53August 18, 2025 2:15 PM

Anyone bemoaning the lack of decorum FP doesn’t know their history. Two hundred years ago politicians were mocking or slandering each other in the newspapers. Then times changed and the country became more civil. It’s a cycle. It doesn’t mean this will last forever, just until the MAGAs die out.
