Marla Gibbs is ready to shine on the page, as well as the screen.
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the cover of the acclaimed actress’ forthcoming memoir It’s Never Too Late, out in early 2026 from Amistad, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.
For years, Gibbs, 94, has been a beloved television staple. The Emmy nominee and NAACP Image Award winner is best-known for roles like the family maid Florence Johnston on hit sitcom The Jeffersons, as well as matriarch Mary Jenkins on 227, for which she also sang the theme song and produced.
But it wasn't always an easy road for Gibbs, as she recounts in It’s Never Too Late. In the book, the star looks back on a tumultuous childhood in which “she was always in search of safety in love,” per the book's official synopsis. It also explores her life-changing move to Los Angeles following an abusive marriage.
Gibbs further recounts her advocacy within the entertainment industry, where she fought for fair pay and creative control for herself and other colleagues.
The memoir is an “inspiring personal portrait of triumph and Hollywood,” per Amistad.
