It’s made from crickets! 🦗
Flour is made from grains like wheat, rye, and oats. This is dried, ground meat product.

No thanks. I prefer grain-based bread.

I don't care how much protein it has. I could never get over the nausea factor. I'd sooner eat Wonder Bread with all its chemicals.

The USDA already allows a certain amount of bug parts in processed food. So you've probably already eaten plenty of crickets without knowing it.

When did U.S. Americans develop a protein deficiency?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 15, 2025 1:43 AM |
R6 - it's a low number - but yes, there is an amount of bugs allowed in all produce.
However it's not THE main ingredient.
Sorry folks - but we're not starving enough to consider this for protein. Maybe in other countries they are that hungry - but it will never catch on here.
I'll take horse meat way before I'll eat insects. And no - I don't eat the insects of the sea - shellfish.

Yeah, yeah, and peanut butter has an acceptable level of mouse droppings, I've heard it all before. But the word "probably" makes all the difference.

Has anyone else developed an aversion to flour? I found myself taking the bread off sandwiches, unwrapping wraps and not buying bakery goods anymore. I can't stand it.

by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 15, 2025 3:16 AM |
I'm not personally interested, but rationally I see no problem with it. If people became more comfortable with insect proteins it would be good for the environment. Moreover, I think displays of exaggerated disgust at the idea are a bit rude to people who come from a culture where it's perfectly normal. Especially when those are often places that have had to deal with famines and things.

Moved from the City to the Country this year, where it is dead quiet. Except for the fucking zillions of crickets. Wish I could eat them all right now.

I tried a chocolate bar made with cricket "flour" a few years ago. The thought of eating crickets was gross, but the product itself was rather benign. The cricket ingredients were kind of a tasteless dry powder. It didn't add anything to the chocolate except texture. I'm glad it was dry, though. I don't know if moist cricket parts would have gone down as easily.

I've eaten chapulines in Mexico. Wasn't a big fan of the texture but if they are ground up, why not.

Dafuq does this even mean? It's food, not art. Sustenance. Nutrition. Any "beauty" is just presentation (aka artifice) or cultural associations from the consumer. Is a cheeseburger "a thing of beauty?" How about a container of yogurt, or a serving of broccoli, or some crackers?

people compare crabs, lobsters to insects because both are Arthropoda.

I wouldn't eat horse or shellfish but I have no problem with ground-up insects.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 15, 2025 11:10 AM |
So it's not wild to say if you enjoy lobster, or can deal with it as a food source, you might be able to handle crickets. But we do NOT each ground up lobster. We eat skeletal muscle tissue. Insects do have muscle tissue, though nothing to really snack on, and it’s generally small, thin, and anchored differently inside the exoskeleton. Some edible insects have a juicy fat like substance. not comparable to sea crustaceans.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 15, 2025 11:10 AM |
Why is pig ok but not horse? I eat both. and shellfish. I guess I could eat grown up insects much easier than the actual identifiable insect. Someone put insect hamburger substitute on the market in Switzerland at great development cost. Mealworms. Anyway, it is tanking.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 15, 2025 11:14 AM |
GROUND up insects. one assumes they are grown up!

[quote]people compare crabs, lobsters to insects because both are Arthropoda.
People aren't comparing them here. We're saying they're basically the same, or very closely related, the way cows and pigs are related, or chickens and turkeys. Having this OTT reaction to "eating bugs, yucky!" when lobster, shrimp and crab are completely normal and popular, is pretty silly. The only real diffence is one set is generally bigger and lives in the ocean. But both are Arthropods with similar physiologies.
No, I don't want to eat a bug, I also don't care much for shellfish. This flour also isn't "bugs," it's a processed food meant to mimic flour the same way almond milk mimics cow milk. I would try this. People on low carb diets would probably love it.

r41, I ordered the plat du jour for lunch from a restaurant in France once, without paying attention to its contents. It was the most disgusting flavor. Turned out to be horse meat. I did not eat any red meat for many years after that, including pork.

No. Cruel and stupid. No one needs this much protein per gram to be healthy. It’s all a psy-op. Gym culture is powered by people who have the physis of Mike Israetel and will probably die by 50.
