Under the 5th Amendment, I refuse to answer any question that might incriminate me.

by Anonymousreply 1August 13, 2025 10:27 PM

Mine's not on that list. šŸ˜Ž

As for your question, not nearly enough. I'm poor, you see. Yes, even without kids, please don't judge.

by Anonymousreply 2August 13, 2025 10:27 PM

I'm at 54 for the moment. Still have a long way to go to fill my bucket list.

by Anonymousreply 6August 13, 2025 10:57 PM

Assuming the query is not about wealth and travel privilege, but a desire to learn about the world beyond our US homeland:

England

France

Spain

Italy

Switzerland

Germany

Costa Rica

Mexico

Respectively asking, what is the point of the question?

by Anonymousreply 7August 13, 2025 10:57 PM

I consider myself extremely lucky to have the health and finances to be able to travel

NORTH AMERICA: United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, St. Maarten, Jamaica

SOUTH AMERICA: None

EUROPE: France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Vatican City, Austria, Hungary,

ASIA: Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore

As R7 asked, what is the point of the question?

by Anonymousreply 8August 13, 2025 11:03 PM

North America: US, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, US Virgin Islands (?), British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Granada, Cayman Islands, and a couple of other Caribbean islands I can't seem to remember.

South America: Argentina, Uruguay

Europe: England, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland

Asia: Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong/Macau

Oceania: Australia, New Zealand

Now that I have it written down, I think I need to tackle more of my bucket list.

by Anonymousreply 9August 13, 2025 11:03 PM

45 thus far.

by Anonymousreply 10August 13, 2025 11:11 PM

I worked for many years for USAID, and so traveled to lots of exotic developing countries. On the way to/from these countries, I would stop (on my own dime) at more popular tourist spots. Often, my partner would join me. Sometimes we went on a cruise. So, I won't list them all, but it's a lot of countries. I've been to every continent, including Antarctica. For instance, I've visited every STAN country, with Uzbekistan being my favorite. And my favorite airport was Dubai, with Singapore a close second. The best airport lounges were in Japan.

I'm guessing there are a lot of people like me who have travelled for work with international NGOs all over the world.

by Anonymousreply 11August 13, 2025 11:19 PM

I've been to Canada and Nassau/Bahamas. I'd love to see so much more of the world but my phobia of flying and confined spaces keeps me on US soil.

by Anonymousreply 12August 13, 2025 11:21 PM

Two.

by Anonymousreply 13August 13, 2025 11:22 PM

I’m going to Dubai!

by Anonymousreply 14August 13, 2025 11:23 PM

[quote] For instance, I've visited every STAN country,

Hi. It’s me Stan.

by Anonymousreply 15August 13, 2025 11:24 PM

NORTH AMERICA: CANADA, MEXICO, BAHAMAS, ARUBA, CURACAO, BELIZE, HONDURAS

ASIA: JAPAN, PHILIPPINES, HONG KONG, THAILAND, SAMOA

EUROPE: LUXEMBOURG, BELGIUM, GERMANY

by Anonymousreply 16August 13, 2025 11:27 PM

I see Paris...

by Anonymousreply 17August 13, 2025 11:29 PM

Samoa is in Asia, R16? Who knew?

by Anonymousreply 18August 13, 2025 11:33 PM

My bad, R18. I should have put Polynesia.

by Anonymousreply 19August 13, 2025 11:39 PM

4. I'm guessing we're not counting the country we originated from. 2 are Canada and Mexico and I've been to both multiple times. The other two are Dominican Republic for your typical Carribean vacay (all inclusive, waiters bringing cocktails to your spot on the beach, little contact with locals or their culture). The 4th is Ireland which (big shock coming) is where my ancestors are from.

I know I'm pretty basic. I do want to see more of Europe and some of South America, but that's it. I go on vacation to relax and I like my comfort zone, which typically includes room service, daily housekeeping, toilets you sit on and minimal language barriers.

by Anonymousreply 20August 13, 2025 11:41 PM

R16 here - I totally forgot AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND.

by Anonymousreply 21August 14, 2025 12:12 AM

Countries and Territories:

N. America: Canada, US, Puerto Rico, Aruba, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Hawaii (it is "overseas")

S. America: None yet.

Oceania: Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand

Australia: Australia, silly!

Antarctica: NO

Asia/Pacific: Japan, Thailand, The Philippines, Korea

Africa: None

Europe: Greece, France, Monaco, Belgium, England, Holland, Spain, Hungary, Switzerland, Germany, Italy,

Feels like something's missing.

Am not in great health anymore but am determined to take my partner to France and Greece next Spring. We're doing a "pilot trip" transcon to Quebec and New England next month. My bucket list used to be a mile long, but reality has set in. We could probably afford to take a few cruises, but I'd want to do small ships, something like a National Geographic cruise rather than a mega party ship, and those might be beyond our reach.

Yes, this is a thread for privileged eldergays or adventurous youngins with backpacks.

by Anonymousreply 22August 14, 2025 12:16 AM

Mexico Egypt Peru France Austria England Germany

by Anonymousreply 23August 14, 2025 12:23 AM

18

My favorite:

Algeria, Greece, Japan, Cook Islands, Tahiti

Least fave: Thailand, Philippines, UAE

What's Kiribati like, OP?

by Anonymousreply 24August 14, 2025 12:35 AM

The U.S., Mexico, England, Scotland, Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic - so 7 in total. Not exactly a world traveler and I think my traveling days are over. Just not excited about it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 25August 14, 2025 1:13 AM

I've never been to me.

by Anonymousreply 26August 14, 2025 1:19 AM

US and a day trip to Tiajuana at the age of three.

by Anonymousreply 27August 14, 2025 1:37 AM

United States, Canada, Bahamas, Puerto Rico (yeah. I know it's a US territory)

by Anonymousreply 28August 14, 2025 1:40 AM

Shit, 22 - I forgot Australia and New Zealand.

Sorry, Aussies & Kiwis - loved your countries

by Anonymousreply 29August 14, 2025 1:59 AM

People - don't get old.

23 - I forgot Greece too.

FML

by Anonymousreply 30August 14, 2025 2:01 AM

Wow -- you guys sure know how to make a girl feel positively sheltered!

So -- USA, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, France, and Panama. And Puerto Rico, although I know that doesn't count.

Wish it could have been more.

by Anonymousreply 31August 14, 2025 2:19 AM

I've been to all of the following outside of the US. Some have a (*) because I've been to them both before and after reunification or before and after they separated. Some of the places I only spent a week or two and some I've spent months or years. Many I have been to multiple times. Although I am an American, I have not been to that many states.

Greece, Yugoslavia (*Croatia, *Bosnia & Herzegovina, *Serbia, *Slovenia), Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Kenya, United Kingdom, France, Italy Vatican City, Monaco, Spain, Portugal, West Germany, East Germany, (*Germany), Switzerland, Czechoslovakia (*Czech Republic, *Slovakia) Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Türkiye, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, Mexico.

by Anonymousreply 32August 14, 2025 2:27 AM

...and Austria. I've been to Austria at least a 1/2 dozen times. Don't know how I forgot

by Anonymousreply 33August 14, 2025 2:31 AM

Around 30

by Anonymousreply 34August 14, 2025 2:32 AM

Copied from my posting in the "cities" thread:

by Anonymousreply 35August 14, 2025 4:10 AM

Goddammit - 24

St. Lucia

by Anonymousreply 36August 14, 2025 4:23 AM

A mere 26 not counting possessions or territories.

by Anonymousreply 37August 14, 2025 4:25 AM

I’ve only been to fourteen. Among them, the only ones not mentioned so far are Cuba and Andorra.

I wish I could see more of the world but I stopped flying almost twenty years ago. I was an ok flier as a kid and into my early to mid twenties. After that though, seemingly out of nowhere, I started getting plane anxiety that only got worse and worse over time. My last couple times on a plane I truly thought I was having a heart attack from the panic. My final time flying it caused a bit of a stir, with a stewardess coming over to me, defibrillator in hand, before the « fasten seatbelts » sign had even been turned off.

I still do some travel, but only if I can go by car, train or boat. I live in Boston but I’ve made numerous drives to Vegas, Florida, even as far as Mexico City and Newfoundland. I had to go to Tennessee (ugh) earlier this year for work and needed to take PTO the day before and after so I could drive there and back. Sadly our rail system is garbage, but I have ridden Amtrak pretty much anywhere in can take me (other than hellholes like upstate New York). Even if the train only gets me 75% of the way towards where I want to go, I have no trouble renting a car and driving the rest of the way.

I’ll never see Asia or Africa or Oceania, but I never had any interest even when flying wasn’t an issue.

by Anonymousreply 38August 14, 2025 4:54 AM

Not very many, 23, and very Eurocentric in Accord with my interests. I've lived in 2 countries, spent months in another 3, and know another 7 very well from repeated trips.

I was born in the U.S. and travelled in (not just passed through) 42 states but moved to Europe 6 years ago.

I tend to take longer trips to big cities and sometimes explore from there; if I like the city I'm happy to revisit multiple times to know it well. I probably should have (and should) make new places more of a priority, but I like knowing a place from multiple visits over time.

There are 5 or 6 countries I have long been keen to see, farther afield geographically or culturally.

I envy the breadth of travel experience if some friends who had travelled and extensively in twice as many countries before they were 30 but I didn't start traveling much until my late 20s and then with big gaps. I was never the backpacker/gap years/volunteer/adventure traveller, and my work travel was only in the US.

EUROPE: Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Vatican City, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic, Malta, Luxembourg,

AFRICA: Morocco

NORTH AMERICA: U.S., Canada

SOUTH AMERICA: Argentina

by Anonymousreply 39August 14, 2025 9:52 AM

But I’ve never been to…me.

by Anonymousreply 40August 14, 2025 9:58 AM

And no one's mentioned that OP ended the question with a preposition?

Try this: How many countries have you visited?

by Anonymousreply 41August 14, 2025 10:52 AM

We don't all have sticks lodged up our asses, R41. Some of us are actually normal, and can relate to different people and situations without drama or taking unnecessary offense. This is social media, not a literary review.

by Anonymousreply 42August 14, 2025 12:25 PM

I prefer to have sentences addressed to me ending with a proposition.

by Anonymousreply 43August 14, 2025 12:46 PM

Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, DR, Jamaica, Trinidad, Dominica, St. Maarten/St. Martin, Tortola, Aruba, CuraƧao, Bahamas, Bermuda, Barbados, St John’s, BVI, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, and Antarctica.

The Azores, the Canaries, the Republic of Ireland, the UK, The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Monaco, Vatican City, Switzerland, USSR/Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon.

Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea and Hong Kong before reunification.

Never been to China, India, and most of Africa.

by Anonymousreply 44August 14, 2025 3:14 PM

Other than the US (my home): Canada, Mexico, France, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, New Zealand, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Monaco. (16)

by Anonymousreply 45August 14, 2025 3:28 PM

I use the app ā€œBeenā€. It’s fun, y’all should download it.

It tracks my # of countries: 57

by Anonymousreply 46August 14, 2025 3:51 PM

I've been to 50something, MG was about 120-something before he died, and my other work associate is upper 120s.

by Anonymousreply 47August 14, 2025 3:58 PM

I forgot about Pakistan.

by Anonymousreply 48August 14, 2025 3:58 PM

North America: USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala

South America: Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay

Europe: UK, France, Germany, Italy, Iceland, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, Albania, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Montenegro

Asia: Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia

I still want to see Australia and a couple more Asian countries + a few spots in Africa, but then I keep getting drawn back to a few favorite countries, especially France. I could spend a lifetime just exploring all the villages and cities there.

by Anonymousreply 49August 14, 2025 4:05 PM

Thank you, R46. Clearly this app was made for people like me.

by Anonymousreply 50August 14, 2025 4:47 PM

If what are today several countries were all Yugoslavia when I was there, does it count as one?

by Anonymousreply 51August 14, 2025 4:52 PM

[quote]If what are today several countries were all Yugoslavia when I was there, does it count as one?

Executive decision - no. They are separate countries.

I have spoken.

by Anonymousreply 52August 14, 2025 4:54 PM

It's even worse, R52. Several listed the 4 constituent countries of the UK as separate countries. Several listed Puerto Rico, a US territory. Someone even posted HAWAII, claiming that it's "overseas." Hon, the question wasn't "how many times have you flown over the ocean?" If you want to split hairs like that then I'm adding Long Island and Key West to my list.

I think the rule should be if you left your home country for a destination with it's own seat in the UN, it counts.

And the Americans counting the US in their tally.... you're so "American."

by Anonymousreply 53August 14, 2025 5:05 PM

All the UK countries are just that, countries. I'd certainly list England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland as separate countries. Most of the residents would agree. I'd list Puerto Rico. It's not a state of the United States. I'd also list the US Virgin Islands separately.

Hawai'i is in the US though.

[quote]And the Americans counting the US in their tally.... you're so "American."

Yeah, I did that. My bad. Copy and paste error.

by Anonymousreply 54August 14, 2025 5:12 PM

R51, R52 I went to "Yugoslavia" in 1983 and have since been several times to Slovenia and Croatia and once to Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina. I've also been to Czechoslovakia back in the 80s and to the Czech Republic and Slovakia several times since. I went to West Germany and East Germany (Berlin) in the early 80s and to reunited Germany many times since. When I count the number of countries, I count each of the Yugoslav republics but not Yugoslavia and West Germany and East Germany but not "Germany" and Czech Republic and Slovakia but not "Czechoslovakia". It does get confusing.

by Anonymousreply 55August 14, 2025 5:16 PM

Let's see: I'm a U.S. citizen. So: Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas. Great Britain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey, Egypt.

by Anonymousreply 56August 14, 2025 5:21 PM

40

Top 5 favorite: Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Italy, Tunisia

Bottom 5: Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland

by Anonymousreply 57August 14, 2025 5:24 PM

38 (Including territories and possesions)

NORTH AMERICA: Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bonaire, Canada, Cuba, Curacao, Dominca, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, St Kitts and Nevis, Sint Maarten, US, US Virgin Islands

SOUTH AMERICA: Colombia

EUROPE: Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, UK

OCEANIA: Australia, New Zealand

by Anonymousreply 58August 14, 2025 5:48 PM

UK "countries" are subnational entities. No one outside of those countries sees them as anything but regions with distinct cultures. Typical of Brits to try and grab as much as they can, though. Particularly offensive is lumping Northern Ireland in but I'll just leave it at that.

Listing Puerto Rico or Hawaii is just moronic.

by Anonymousreply 59August 14, 2025 6:44 PM

How about Palestine? The Been app counts it. And it lists Hong Kong, Greenland, and a lot of other places as a separate countries.

by Anonymousreply 60August 14, 2025 8:51 PM

With unique cultural identities, Puerto Rico and Hawaii have the feel of countries that differ from the Mainland. You might as well say that Tahiti is the same as France.

by Anonymousreply 61August 14, 2025 10:10 PM

US, Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, Republic of Ireland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, Korea. I think that's it.

by Anonymousreply 62August 14, 2025 10:23 PM

I agree with R59.

Brits are always talking about how they are different nations/countries - but nobody outside of UK sees it that way.

There are no Welsh passports, no Scottish consulates, no separate representation in the UN. There is light administration that classifies as being separate - including Scottish Parliament.

But on the international stage, nobody considers Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to be fully distinct countries. It's an appeasement because they all hate the English and want their separate identity. And that's fine - but you're not a separate country.

And no, Puerto Rico, Hawaii or Alaska don't count.

by Anonymousreply 63August 15, 2025 1:06 AM

R63 If you know many English people you will find that most of them, also see themselves as English not British.

I'd like to see you walk into a Glasgow pub on a Friday night and announce that Scotland isn't a country - they love being lectured to about their country by Americans. We all do! You'd most likely not emerge unscathed.

I mention Scotland specifically because Wales is a Principality - I'm sure that you know that - while Northern Ireland is either part of the UK or a province of the Republic of Ireland, depending on how the inhabitants identify. All defined in the Good Friday Agreement. But I'm sure that you knew that too.

by Anonymousreply 64August 15, 2025 1:41 AM

Sovereign nations divide up and call their constituent parts whatever they want. The UK labels theirs as "countries' with Northern Ireland sometimes referred to as a province. Since England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not individually sovereign nations (by anyone's definition), most of the world looks at the UK as a single nation analogous to the United States. Those "countries" are more similar to what would be referred to as provinces or states in other countries.

by Anonymousreply 65August 15, 2025 2:02 AM

R64 - like I said very clearly - nobody OUTSIDE OF THE UK.

Jesus Christ - I know you all get your knickers in a twist about it on home soil - but they are not separate independent countries. Ireland is, of course.

And I agree with R65 - they're more provinces or states.

But keeping telling your ridiculous selves that they are unique countries. Weirdos.

by Anonymousreply 66August 15, 2025 2:06 AM

11. USA, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, St Martens, the Bahamas, UK, Iceland, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

by Anonymousreply 67August 15, 2025 2:30 AM

I've only been to Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Monaco, and Italy. I took care of a disabled parent for nearly 25 years, which severely limited my travel. Now, I'm not as mobile and not as physically and psychologically equipped to deal with airports, jet lag and long lines. Still on my bucket list is a Mediterranean cruise with stops in places like Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Italy, France and Spain - maybe Morocco and Tunisia as well. I like the idea of not having to pack and unpack every other day to move on to another city/destination. I don't need a large room - just the SAME room. And the original inhabitants of the Mediterranean also used the sea as the highway, because the terrain is so mountainous that land travel was difficult. I'd like to do this in the fall, after the hottest weather has passed and before the rainy season begins - or else in April.
