kierkegaard thought western societies would become submissive and passive as atomized individuals only related to the public as an abstraction instead of really belonging to communities. or something like that. it's a little over my head.

OP, no one is coming to save us.
No one.
All of our institutions have been destroyed or depowered; the media, colleges, the federal government itself. And it goes without saying that corporations are firmly aligned with Trump. Capitalism loves fascists.
This is it. It's on us or nobody. And this is just the beginning.

Don't be such an Eeyore. There's lots of fighting back going on, from the Democrats in the Texas state legislature blocking Republican gerrymandering to Native Americans using a tribal land treaty to try to shut down Alligator Alcatraz to troops deliberately walking out of step at Donald's birthday parade to Gavin Newsom trolling the fuck out of Trump on social media. Resistance is happening all around you.

We should start doing orange face.

Trump's "willing executioners" vastly outnumber and outplay the resistance. A "brave try" isn't enough.

Have you signed up with your local chapter of Indivisible or the Dems? Or are you too busy cosplaying Anne Frank to get involved?

I’ve always believed that people will satisfy their basest nature given a chance. Not this “people are basically good” crap.

Trump will overplay his hand. He did it January 6, too. There's a limit.
Even victors are by victories undone.

R5 no they don't. maga isn't even half the country, and only an even smaller subsection of that has those kind of guts. we're a country with an extreme lack of voter participation.

"Trump will overplay his hand. He did it January 6, too. There's a limit."
And suffered not a single negative consequence, not even a slap on the wrist.
So I wouldn't count on your strategy as a deterrent to him or his allies.

I agree with R10. January 6 only temporarily weakened Trump. He rebounded as usual and a large number of Americans handed him a 2nd term despite his monstrous conduct.

Gavin Newsom is rolling the fuck out of Trump and the MAGA cunts and he's doing an amazing job at it. It's hilarious and it's going to drive Trump up the wall because he's so thin skinned and such a titty baby. Newsom has also stood up to Trump in his presence and Trump folded because he's a weakling.
The politicians we need to get rid of are Schumer, Jefferies and all of the old style Democrats who have proven they aren't equipped to operate in the current political climate - which is permanent. And there's a lot of them. The politics of give and take and negotiation are not going to return.
R8 - none of that is ever going to happen. No matter what Trump does he faces no consequences so snap out of it. That's "someone else is going to save us" thinking. We're going to have to save ourselves.

If you're feeling anxious you should take R6's advice. You can also volunteer with a local democrat's campaign: next year all of the House, 1/3rd of the Senate, and most state legislatures are all up for re-election. Pick one who aligns with you (centrist, dem socialist, whatever you like) and volunteer. You will meet many fellow volunteers and staffers who share your values and current anxieties. You will also talk to voters, and you might be surprised by how many people in your community are aligned with you. I've been doing this sort of volunteering in almost every election since Trump's first term, and I've discovered that it's great for my mental health during these dark times we're living through.

The republicans won't, they have less courage than the Cowardly Lion.

OP, you are so right. I am going to write another very strongly worded letter to the President for people are very aroused right now.
