Yes. The place hadn't been cleaned when we checked in, so I took pictures and sent them to the host. I told them we would clean the place thoroughly before we left, which we did, and they gave us a 2-day credit on our stay our 5-day stay.

I wouldn't think of asking unless it were for longer than the usual stay, a week or more for most locations.
Often discounts are built in, if not for AirBnB than for other sites like Booking.com, VRBO, etc. Look for availability for three days at a location and it shows X price per day; book for 4 or more or 7+ days and available discounts are shown according to the host's agreement with the online site.

R2 that's a refund, not a discount. A discount is asking for a lower price in advance for "special" reasons like an extra-long stay or because you're a military veteran or a cheap ass with no shame whatsoever.

It was VRBO, but I was given a $250 rebate without asking. Short-er answer: we booked the only thing we could find for the first Covid summer —Ocean Beach on FI 🤷🏻♂️ I was paranoid, so we kept that place CLEAN. The owner returned the cleaning fee “you did a better job than my own cleaners!”

Only if you pay with nature's credit card.
