Russell Tovey & Tom Blyth in "Plainclothes"
Trailer released today. In theaters Sept. 19th.
[quote] Syracuse, 1997. Promising undercover police officer Lucas (Tom Blyth) is dealing with a breakup and the recent loss of his father. When he receives an assignment to lure and arrest gay men in a mall bathroom, he is surprised to discover a scintillating connection with Andrew (Russell Tovey), one of his targets.
[quote]As their secret connection deepens and internal pressure to deliver arrests intensifies, Lucas finds himself torn between duty and desire. At his mother’s New Year’s Eve party, Lucas loses a letter no one was ever meant to read. With time running out and his secret life closing in around him, the evening builds towards an explosive reckoning where everything he’s buried threatens to erupt.

The smell and sounds of other men eliminating must evoke romantic nostalgia for you!

Ah, the creatures of the night. What sweet music they make.

i met some boyfriends in outdoor cruise areas.
I dont mean I ran into my boyfriends there. I mean we met as strangers, hooked up, and took it from there.

Tovey is a bad choice here. He looks way past his prime as if that hot piece Tom Blyth would get all worked up over that,

That phrasing wasn't a mistake.
Joking aside, I didn't realise that still went on in the late 90s. I suppose it was still before the internet had properly taken off.
But the part about worrying a letter might get out feels anachronistic. I've only seen that kind of plot in stories set in the era when homosexuality was still illegal.

R7 George Michael was arrested in 1998. Larry Craig was arrested in 2007.

I saw this at Sundance, it's good. Blyth is excellent (so is the actress who plays his mom) - Tovey doesn't leave much of an impression. The sex scenes should've been filthier. Blyth's character would've been a nuclear bomb of horniness but the first time they have sex is shot like a music video. It needed a rawer quality and I'm not just saying this because I wanted to see that. It would've felt realer

I’m surprised Tovey isn’t playing the cop.

Saw it in June at NewFest in NYC. It's very good. Blyth is fantastic and in almost every scene.

Two threads for this?
I’m starting to see why some of us here go total national socialist about this sort of thing.
Just do a damn search.

Why does it take so friggin' long to be released? Sept in the US, Oct in the UK, when it's clearly all finished if it's been shown.
Time's a tickin'!

There's three threads. But this one is the most successful so far.

"eliminating"
Imagine being such a nellie priss that you have to call answering nature's call "eliminating."

Saw it the Ptown filmfest. Enjoyable, but as others mentioned, Blythe was the standout.
The Q&A was odd, with these big long monologues posing as questions.

Q&As ae always the worst, I hate them. Don't let the audience speak, ever. Just get an intelligent moderator on stage and let us listen to the talent talk. Audience "questions" are ALWAYS trash

Yes, the Q&A "questions" always end up being some rando talking about random shit for like 5 minutes too long.

I haven't seen it, but it looks like the characters are too old to be in this situation.

Too old to be cruising in the 90s? Are you a lesbian?

R25 I meant too old for the in/out gay relationship movie trope.
