Where have all the old people gone?

When I was growing up you used to see old people on TV. They would have a life alert, or insurance commercials. There were shows lke The Golden Girls, and sitcoms regularly featured an old person.

I can't remember the last time I've seen an old person commercial

You're watching the wrong channels. They're all over the place on those channels that air old tv shows.

by Anonymousreply 1August 12, 2025 12:43 PM

They are in the Alzheimers-due-to-Dementia (Rexulti) ads. Those ads are shown really often on most channels. Or maybe I notice them more because my Mom died due to complications from dementia (she stopped eating and left on her own terms).

There's a Matlock reboot with Kathy Bates on CBS.

Everyone does everything to look younger (in Hollywood, anyway). They have to be over 80 to actually find a person who looks old

by Anonymousreply 6August 12, 2025 1:12 PM

And sometimes not even then!

by Anonymousreply 7August 12, 2025 1:21 PM

people also look a lot younger now

by Anonymousreply 8August 12, 2025 1:26 PM

They are fine, they send their love!

by Anonymousreply 9August 12, 2025 1:27 PM

[quote] Where have all the old people gone?

They’ve gone into politics.

by Anonymousreply 10August 12, 2025 1:30 PM

I can't remember the last time I watched live TV. No idea what commercials are these days. Everything I subscribe to is ad-free

Maybe they don't show old people in the commercials because they don't want to upset their audience with too much "realness?" Elderly people love fantasy and reliving their youth. Being confronted with the sight of decrepit peers might trigger a sundowning episode. The staff tries to mitigate such incidents by playing pre screened videos in the activity room in the afternoons.

by Anonymousreply 11August 12, 2025 1:31 PM

OP? You're not living in the right area for them.

They're all over the TV -- in Florida.

by Anonymousreply 12August 12, 2025 1:31 PM

OP do yourself a favor and watch a commercial break on Fox News.

by Anonymousreply 13August 12, 2025 1:40 PM

Well we have Billy Bob Thornton/70 as the lead in Landman, and Harrison Ford/83 and Helen Mirren/80 as the leads in 1923, Shrinking, and Mobland.

How old do they need to be for you to be considered old?

by Anonymousreply 14August 12, 2025 1:54 PM

Gone to graveyards, everyone.

by Anonymousreply 15August 12, 2025 1:58 PM

Where is my John Goodman? Where is his shiny gun? Where is my happy ending?

by Anonymousreply 16August 12, 2025 2:05 PM

I think it’s just that people look younger now. Anne Bancroft was 36 in The Graduate. That’s the same age as Emma Stone and Lily Collins who still play young adults.

by Anonymousreply 17August 12, 2025 2:06 PM

OP must not watch Judge Judy or Wheel of Fortune.

by Anonymousreply 18August 12, 2025 2:08 PM

R12 God’s waiting room

To be more accurate.

All senior citizens need Life Alert!

by Anonymousreply 20August 12, 2025 2:39 PM

OP have you really not noticed the Medicare ads?

by Anonymousreply 21August 12, 2025 2:44 PM

They’re plenty of old people on tv you just don’t realize they’re old. Memba’ when late 50s used to be lowkey old?

by Anonymousreply 22August 12, 2025 3:05 PM

Are you even watching that many commercials these days, OP?

If you're like me, you mostly use services that don't have ads.

by Anonymousreply 23August 12, 2025 3:27 PM

That is because they are all Dataloungers. They are 80, but look 29!

by Anonymousreply 24August 12, 2025 3:42 PM

Your clearly not watching MSNBC

by Anonymousreply 25August 12, 2025 3:53 PM

Medicare renewal is coming up here shortly, you will see nothing but old people in medicare commercials.

by Anonymousreply 26August 12, 2025 3:54 PM

There’s so much good online porn now, they’re inside masturbating.

Fox News is wall-to-wall old people commercials. Reverse mortgages, buying gold, prescription drugs of all kinds—it’s all on there.

by Anonymousreply 32August 12, 2025 4:40 PM

Old people no longer look like "old people." When I was a kids, old folks had gray/ white hair, lots of wrinkles, the women frequently wore brooches and the men wouldn't be caught dead wearing collar-less shirts in public. Not the case today, especially among the crowd who would appear in movies and ads.

by Anonymousreply 33August 12, 2025 4:56 PM

You know you're getting old when you start to recognize the aging celebrities they use to push reverse mortgages on TV.

by Anonymousreply 34August 12, 2025 5:00 PM

They're still around, just dyeing their hair, or cutting in modern styles, tanning, trying to stay fit and wearing regular clothes so they don't look like yesteryear's old people.

by Anonymousreply 35August 12, 2025 5:01 PM

Watch the commercials on the Fox network.

by Anonymousreply 36August 13, 2025 1:03 AM

They overdosed on all those marathon TV pharmaceutical ads’ drugs they were told they needed to get prescribed and take, OP.

by Anonymousreply 37August 13, 2025 2:35 AM

[quote] Watch the commercials on the Fox network.

I watch neither commercials nor Fox network.
