How many of us built a whole music library for a penny under different names? I had boxes of stuff.

When CDs came out I had about 6 different names I used. My landlord thought I was renting out my apartment to all these different men as she'd see the mail inside the door before I got home. Nice lady...but not the brightest pebble on the beach.

So how did you get away with canceling right after receiving the promotional offers?
I just remember whenever I tried that, I ended up with the auto-delivered monthly selections, which were typically lame.

I did a search R2 but nothing came up. Thanks!

OMG! This brings back so many memories. I, too, had different names from both Columbia and BMG record and tape clubs.

Every month they sent a letter with a catalog of available recordings and the one chosen as your selection of the month. They sent that selection if you didn't send back the postcard saying you didn't want it. The problem was, you had to pay for the stamp--which I refused to do. So each month, they sent the recording. I'd just write on it "REFUSED, Return to Sender," and put it back in the mail. After about 6 months, both clubs said they would only send if I specifically asked for it.
Some of their sales were really good--like $3.99 for pretty current recordings--which is why I kept getting their mailings even after fulfilling my contract to buy whatever number they made us (I think BMG required buying one more and Columbia, which had a better selection, required 5 purchases.)
