Are tariffs finally here?

What are you panic buying.

Me….coffee. I have too much clothes already. Don’t care much about latest greatest TVs or computers but did just upgrade my phone to the Galaxy Flip 7 (yes….android. Suck it Apple cult).

Produce price spikes will hurt, but can’t really plan around that too well.

I would stock up on Colombian rent boys, but husband would complain about cleaning up after them.

by Anonymousreply 38August 12, 2025 6:55 AM

Coming soon. Fucking moron.

by Anonymousreply 1August 4, 2025 4:54 AM

Tariffs are here, but the full effect will be seen by Christmas.

by Anonymousreply 2August 4, 2025 5:07 AM

Trump is such an idiot. He gets an idea stuck in his very small and defective brain and insists on going with it.

by Anonymousreply 3August 4, 2025 5:22 AM

I swear if my beer prices go up I will run for president in 2028 and win!

by Anonymousreply 4August 4, 2025 5:29 AM

TACO...coming soon. This is another version of his Infrastructure Week or Build the Wall BS.

by Anonymousreply 5August 4, 2025 5:32 AM

It’s a lot of beat box fake wine. I can buy it close and I don’t have to think about it. Three for $15 isin’t bad.

by Anonymousreply 6August 4, 2025 5:34 AM

What if they do something to foreign streaming content like movies or music? They want us closed off and dumbed down.

by Anonymousreply 7August 4, 2025 5:51 AM

Did fat orange make a deal with china?

by Anonymousreply 8August 4, 2025 5:52 AM

I don’t understand. How much cheap box wine have you consumed today r6?

by Anonymousreply 9August 4, 2025 6:45 AM

No R8. The US needs China more than China needs the US. So no deal.

by Anonymousreply 10August 4, 2025 6:46 AM

yesterday, i watched the price of bread jump .47 cents.

by Anonymousreply 11August 4, 2025 8:29 AM

A .47 cent jump isn't too bad.

by Anonymousreply 12August 4, 2025 9:05 AM

Stop defending him.

by Anonymousreply 13August 6, 2025 3:16 PM

Next tariffs are tomorrow Aug 7th, USA calendar.

by Anonymousreply 14August 7, 2025 12:07 AM

I bought about 18 boxes of instant pudding mix today that was on sale for 70 cents a piece.

I feel that was a wise investment.

by Anonymousreply 15August 7, 2025 12:27 AM

The inflation rate for 2024 was 2.9%,

The current inflation rate is 2.7%

by Anonymousreply 16August 7, 2025 12:34 AM

Trump's next tariffs will change that. May I say I hadn't heard the word tariff since high school a long time ago. Trump is too much of a coward to tell it like it is TAXES.

by Anonymousreply 17August 7, 2025 1:28 AM

Will they call the shantytowns Trumpvilles?

by Anonymousreply 18August 7, 2025 1:36 AM

When you wake up early in the morning.......

[quote] Will they call the shantytowns Trumpvilles?

R18 No. “Bidenvilles”

by Anonymousreply 20August 7, 2025 6:05 AM

I bought some cellular shades online today. The company had a separate line on the invoice where I was charged 15% for an import tariff. Previously Amazon was threatened by the Trump admin if they tried to do this kind of disclosure, but some smaller businesses are apparently starting to show this tariff charge separately. I wonder if this will catch on.

But Trump said that businesses would eat the charge and not pass it along!

by Anonymousreply 21August 11, 2025 8:03 PM

Last month a bottle of Grey Goose vodka was 17.99. This week it is $24.99. More think the tariffs have arrived.

by Anonymousreply 22August 11, 2025 8:09 PM

I recently took my car in for a tune-up/oil change, etc., and my mechanic said I'd need a new battery in the near future so could he install it now? I said he could, and he said there'll be a tariff on it. When I picked up my car I asked him how much the tariff was. $5, he said. He is no fan of Felon 47 and said he was letting all his customers know whenever there was a tariff charge.

by Anonymousreply 23August 11, 2025 8:16 PM

The problem with tariffs is even if a product is made in the US, history has shown us that US retailers raise their prices to match those of imports to keep overall pricing artificially high to maximize their own profits.

by Anonymousreply 24August 11, 2025 8:29 PM

Well, this is one way to raise taxes on Americans to pay down the national debt. (That is, if the tariff money doesn't go into Trump's pockets.)

by Anonymousreply 25August 11, 2025 8:31 PM

[quote]A .47 cent jump isn't too bad.

For bread, it is. A loaf of Kroger bread is $1.80 where I live.

47 cents is a 26% increase.

by Anonymousreply 26August 11, 2025 8:37 PM

Thing is ... folks are waiting for Repubs to "turn" on him. Not going to happen dramatically as it'll be among themselves.

Sadly, the tariffs provide for some gouging included, no?

by Anonymousreply 27August 11, 2025 8:49 PM

[quote]Well, this is one way to raise taxes on Americans to pay down the national debt.

Actually it's not when you ADD 5 Trillion to the national debt at the same time for tax cuts for the rich.

by Anonymousreply 28August 11, 2025 8:50 PM

Know-it-all wannabe, whiny donald always reminds me of this kid from John Cassavetes's "Gloria."

Without considering nuances it'll go like this: They announced tariffs of up to 50%, they then cut deals with countries to tariffs around 15-25%. Manufacturers will swallow half it and forward half of the increases to the consumers, so maybe 7 - 12%. That's what the consumer will feel on average.

Is it enough to turn them against the MAGA idea? Doubtful. 'Cause half of the problems to come are still Biden's or Obama's, certainly Jerome Powell's. So Trump is really just responsible for maybe a 3% increase. They'll still love him.

[quote] A loaf of Kroger bread is $1.80 where I live.

Does it taste good? That’s awfully cheap.

by Anonymousreply 31August 11, 2025 9:01 PM

Kroger’s web site says that bread is currently 1.99, down from 2.19.

Kroger routinely sells super cheap items as loss leaders to get you into the store. And I'm asuming that's crap white bread.

by Anonymousreply 34August 11, 2025 9:27 PM

Some Republicans are trying to present the need to address trade imbalances. However ... it's the chaotic. confrontational, bullying approach of his that's the problem.

by Anonymousreply 35August 11, 2025 10:48 PM

In March I bought 4 quarts of my favorite Canadian maple syrup, expecting a significant spike in costs before the end of the year.

by Anonymousreply 36August 11, 2025 10:51 PM

$1.80 plus .47 cents is only $1.8047.

by Anonymousreply 37August 12, 2025 6:36 AM

[Quote] Well, this is one way to raise taxes on Americans to pay down the national debt.

It’s not earmarked for that, and as pointed out upthread, the Republican Congress has massively added to the debt.

Let’s not forget the real reason for these tariffs. It’s not for debt reduction and it sure as fuck isn’t trade policy.

Tariffs are revenue of the federal government. The tariff revenue was part of how Trump rationalized the massive tax cut he gave himself. THAT is why he imposed tariffs.
