Canada intends to recognize Palestinian state in September, Prime Minister Carney says

Canada, France, Great Britain. Yes, let's go! Additional countries need to recognize Palestine as well.

I know it's only symbolic at this time, but it's a step in the right direction. And the world must repudiate the land-stealing and genocidal Israel.

Enough is enough. Israel is committing genocide and working to ethnically cleanse the Palestinians from their own land in Gaza and the West Bank. Don't let it happen. A two-state solution is the only fair and equitable solution.

“Canada has long been committed to a two-state solution, an independent, viable and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with the State of Israel in peace and security,” said Carney, flanked by Foreign Minister Anita Anand.

The move follows similar announcements by France, which has said it will recognize a Palestinian state in September, and the UK, which has said that it will too if Israel does not meet conditions that include agreeing to a ceasefire in Gaza.

by Anonymousreply 1July 30, 2025 11:24 PM

“Canada intends to recognize the state of Palestine at the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations,” Carney said. “We intend to do so because the Palestinian Authority has committed to lead much needed reform.”

Carney added that the Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas assured him that his administration will hold long-delayed elections in 2026 in which Hamas will “play no part.”

by Anonymousreply 2July 30, 2025 11:24 PM

I suppose NOBODY will be asking if "Palestine" will be recognizing Israel as a sovereign state, right?

by Anonymousreply 3July 30, 2025 11:39 PM

It only took three posts!

by Anonymousreply 4July 30, 2025 11:41 PM

Israel is intentionally starving and killing innocent Palestinian civilians.

Genocidal Israel must be condemned worldwide.

by Anonymousreply 5July 30, 2025 11:49 PM

Thank you Canada, France and the UK.

More countries must follow their lead.

The United States needs to cut off all aid to Israel.

by Anonymousreply 6July 30, 2025 11:52 PM

More of this please.

by Anonymousreply 7July 30, 2025 11:54 PM

Basically it’s going to be Israel and the US against the rest of the world.

by Anonymousreply 8July 30, 2025 11:55 PM

Don't forget our friends in Russia, R8

by Anonymousreply 9July 31, 2025 12:00 AM

[quote] Basically it’s going to be Israel and the US against the rest of the world.

We still love Israel.

by Anonymousreply 10July 31, 2025 12:05 AM

[quote] Don't forget our friends in Russia, [R8]

If Russia loves Israel they have had a strange way of showing it seeing as they trained the October 7 terrorists.

by Anonymousreply 11July 31, 2025 12:07 AM

This is virtue signaling bullshit which will accomplish nothing.

by Anonymousreply 12July 31, 2025 12:08 AM

[quote] This is virtue signaling bullshit which will accomplish nothing.

Agreed. Canada could send armed forces to aid Hamas if they really cared about this.

by Anonymousreply 13July 31, 2025 12:22 AM

Very poor call, the last thing they need right now is to piss off the US regime. Just wait until the day the new Dem president is sworn in, when he'll immediately go on an apology tour to all the former allies. No one will care then.

by Anonymousreply 14July 31, 2025 12:26 AM

[quote]Carney added that the Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas assured him that his administration will hold long-delayed elections in 2026 in which Hamas will “play no part.”

Uh-huh. I'll believe it when I see it.

by Anonymousreply 15July 31, 2025 12:27 AM

Good. Yes, I know the religion is terrible for gays. I know they kill LGBT people. It's horrible. That still doesn't mean I believe innocent people, eapecially women and children, should die. You can believe in both.

by Anonymousreply 16July 31, 2025 5:20 AM

With the Israeli legislators voting to fully annex the occupied territories just last week (which they call the West Bank) and so little left of Gaza, there's really isn't much left to make a second 'state' out of. And still the Americans will keep bank rolling their defence.

by Anonymousreply 17July 31, 2025 5:29 AM

Australia will also be recognising Palestine as a state with an announcement from the Australian Prime minister expected soon:

Too bad these countries don't demand that Hamas set the hostages free and then surrender. (And they should wait out the 48-hour news cycles before believing Hamas propaganda because the stories keep falling apart.) Instead they're enabling a terrorist organization that started the war with a horrific massacre affecting thousands of civilians, then embedded themselves among their own citizens to ensure there would be collateral damage, and they continue to prolong the war by not releasing the hostages and not surrendering. The western world should remain united against terrorism, not reward it. They're empowering Hamas to prolong all the suffering they're causing. Terrorism shouldn't be legitimized as a political strategy.

by Anonymousreply 19July 31, 2025 6:41 AM

What utter nonsense, R19. Every single one of those countries have repeatedly condemned Hamas' attack and demanded the release of the hostages. Has the hasbara playbook not been updated to reflect that, you know, each of us has access to the internet?

by Anonymousreply 20July 31, 2025 6:54 AM

Macron asked all the Arab countries at his summit to publicly state they will recognize a Palestinian state.

Not one agreed. Not Egypt or Jordan or Saudi Arabia.

The Arabs are now far more sensible than the Canadians the French and the British.

by Anonymousreply 21July 31, 2025 7:00 AM

Idiot

After Oct. 7th, Palestinians proved they don't deserve a state. The conditions will never be met and Carney's nonsense statement willl only suceed in stirring the pot.

This is a Trudeau-level virtue signaling blunder.

by Anonymousreply 22July 31, 2025 7:07 AM

How does Alberta feel about this?

by Anonymousreply 23July 31, 2025 7:09 AM

This is all symbolic and meaningless. There will never be a Palestinian Arab state, ever. Nor has there ever been one.

Anyone who thinks this conflict is about land is not a serious person.

by Anonymousreply 24July 31, 2025 7:13 AM

Israel is a genocidal country and must be repudiated.

Netanyahu should be tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity. He is a thief and barbarian.

by Anonymousreply 25July 31, 2025 7:18 AM

Thank you, r25.

Some of you bitches would have opposed the liberation of Auschwitz.

Geocide is genocide.

by Anonymousreply 26July 31, 2025 8:24 AM

Hello Hamas

Well Hello Hamas,

It's so nice to have you back where you belong

Hamas will never go away, Hamas will never go aWA AY, Hamas will never go away again!

One more time!

Bless you!

by Anonymousreply 27July 31, 2025 8:39 AM

You know who DID oppose the liberation of Auschwitz, R26? PALESTINE.

by Anonymousreply 28July 31, 2025 8:47 AM

It's almost as if posters like r28 are willfully obtuse

by Anonymousreply 29July 31, 2025 8:54 AM

R29 Explain...

by Anonymousreply 30July 31, 2025 9:00 AM

Pearls before swine, r30.

by Anonymousreply 31July 31, 2025 9:03 AM

Again, R31, where is the lie in what I posted?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 32July 31, 2025 9:09 AM

R29 Lithuania alone killed 2-3 times more Jews in three months than even the highest estimated Palestinian death count in the two years since the Gazan war began. You casually and even glibly put the industrialized murder of over six million Jews on the same level of atrocity as Gaza, and then accuse me of wilful obtuseness for not gleefully signing off on your definitional demonstration of Holocaust inversion?

by Anonymousreply 33July 31, 2025 9:25 AM

[quote]glibly put the industrialized murder of over six million Jews on the same level of atrocity as Gaza

I'm not R29 but I have scrolled up and down this thread and read every post and I can't find anyone making this claim R33. Where is the post saying this?

by Anonymousreply 34July 31, 2025 9:33 AM

R34, see R26

by Anonymousreply 35July 31, 2025 9:37 AM

OK thanks for clarifying R35.

However, R26 is not making that claim R35. You state that R25 "casually and even glibly put the industrialized murder of over six million Jews on the same level of atrocity as Gaza". But that's not what R26 said and not even vaguely close to what R26 said.

by Anonymousreply 36July 31, 2025 9:45 AM

*R25 was an error and should have been R26.

by Anonymousreply 37July 31, 2025 9:53 AM

R36 Really? Then what would you say they were doing with that comment? Why use Auschwitz specifically as the comparison?

by Anonymousreply 38July 31, 2025 9:58 AM

I really couldn't answer that R38 - you would have to ask R26 what he was doing with that comment.

To me - R26 isn't claiming that the systematic extermination of Jews by Nazis in WWII is comparable to what has happened in Gaza. That would be utterly preposterous. Equally preposterous as you claiming he said that when I'm pretty sure you know R26 didn't say anything of the sort.

We just have to get some proper facts and honesty into this discussion.

by Anonymousreply 39July 31, 2025 10:08 AM

OMFG R38. Are you Nori's owner?

by Anonymousreply 40July 31, 2025 10:11 AM

R39 "Holocaust inversion is a term used to describe the distortion and misuse of Holocaust terminology, imagery, and analogies. It involves falsely equating Israel with Nazi Germany and broader misapplications of Holocaust-related language that distort history and diminish the Holocaust's significance."

by Anonymousreply 41July 31, 2025 10:15 AM

R40 Nori the dog? I wish!

by Anonymousreply 42July 31, 2025 10:16 AM

You can't actually be serious R41! R26 isn't saying any of those things. Not even close. I'm a bit worried about you now because you're being incredibly disingenuous and dishonest.

Excellent to hear you aren't Nori's owner too. That would have ruined my day. I looked at your posting history and must have gotten confused by one of your quoted posts from the OP of the Nori thread.

I'm going to leave it there.

by Anonymousreply 43July 31, 2025 10:25 AM

All those emaciated Palestinian refugees that arrived in Canada last week broke my heart!! Oh, the humanity!!! Canadians should be proud. I am certain all Canadians are looking forward to becoming Lebanon V.2 in no time.

by Anonymousreply 44July 31, 2025 10:26 AM

R34 R36 R39 seems to think that writing in a pretentious manner hides his (or her) attempt at gaslighting.

by Anonymousreply 45July 31, 2025 11:13 AM

Sadly America’s mob boss doesn't like the sound of this.

by Anonymousreply 46July 31, 2025 11:57 AM

Dump will use this as grounds for war against Canada. That orange turd and his criminal friends plot national/International takeover 24/7.

by Anonymousreply 47July 31, 2025 12:09 PM

Ireland and France did this already.

by Anonymousreply 48July 31, 2025 12:29 PM

*Ireland and Spain, i meant, did this already. Proud to be Irish. We were also the first to vote for, and pass, marriage for gays.

by Anonymousreply 49July 31, 2025 12:31 PM

"Death to Israel!

- "Palestinians" receiving food/aid from Israel after slaughtering 2,000 Israelis

by Anonymousreply 50July 31, 2025 3:05 PM

Just curious R50, why do you guys always round up the amount of people killed on Oct 7th from 1200 to 2000? Do you not know how many people were killed? It’s a 65% increase it’s not like it makes any sort of mathematical sense. Because I’ve noticed the “2000” figure being used a lot, and it’s way off.

by Anonymousreply 51July 31, 2025 3:15 PM

R49, you can kiss Ireland goodbye.

Israelis stole Palestine from them, forced them from their homes, and terrorized them for decades before Oct. 7th.

by Anonymousreply 53July 31, 2025 3:28 PM

Sweden recognized a state of Palestine years ago...and? This is virtue signalling to appease their anti Israel political base.

The two state solution is dead. Hamas killed it.

by Anonymousreply 54July 31, 2025 3:56 PM

They always out themselves with "virtue-signaling."

This isn't Truth Social, hon.

by Anonymousreply 55July 31, 2025 4:01 PM

What about Gaza? Should that be recognized as its own independent state?

by Anonymousreply 56July 31, 2025 4:48 PM

Fuck, R53, learn some basic history. You're embarrassing yourself.

by Anonymousreply 57July 31, 2025 4:59 PM

Hamasistan

by Anonymousreply 58July 31, 2025 5:00 PM

Hamash.

by Anonymousreply 59July 31, 2025 5:06 PM

With all the Israeli settlements and the final word on The West Bank still being Israel’s this just sounds foolish and accomplishes nothing.

by Anonymousreply 60July 31, 2025 6:48 PM

R57 Seriously, he's not even worth correcting. Next up on his list of prompts is that all the Jews should just go back to Poland.

by Anonymousreply 61July 31, 2025 6:51 PM

What are the borders of this state? Where is the capital? Who is head of state?

by Anonymousreply 62July 31, 2025 6:52 PM

Does this mean they will be accepting Palestinian refugees
