On Amazon now..apparently filmed during Covid, and you can tell, but shelved until now. It’s like a long Amazon commercial, and stars ICE CUBE as a genius national security agent. It’s laugh out loud terrible.
This “new” War of the Worlds movie is TERRIBLE

And Eva Longoria as a NASA Scientist!

I know I'll get roasted but I really liked the Tammy C version.
It was like Signs but better. Both leads are nuts but Mel is odious, Tom is just crazy.

I like the Tom C version, too.
I think that may have been the last movie of his I’ve seen.

I lasted 16 minutes with this new version. What a load of crap.
I too liked Cruise's version. That first act was a killer-diller.

How dumb do you have to be to be told to get away from a menacing alien?

Another vote for the Steven Spielberg version with Tom Cruz

I was going to watch it until I checked the film’s IMDB rating which is 3.5. The reviews are brutal.

Cruise's "War of the Worlds" started very strong, was good for 2/3 of its running time and ended with a preposterous whimper.

The most remade movie in film history

Is it worse than Megalopolis?

I can't even get through the trailer.

I love how Hollywood always has female scientists played by hot chicks with big tits. IRL female scientists look like Linda Hunt.

Although I’m not a Tammy fan, I did like the movie. She tends to overact. And I hated that stupid little girl Rachel character. Such a brat.

im watching it now, I hadn't seen they had remade this ("AGAIN?" , i thought). The opening was so slow with the stupid backstory and I grew annoyed at the constant use of the monitors. Then I read that it was a narrative device called screenlife. Still not a fan.
The action does pick up in the last 20 mins for so. But I can see why the reviews are less than stellar.
I can't wait to see the Cinema Sins take on this!

Agreed, R2. I thought the Cruise version was great.

The first 40 or 50 minutes of the Spielberg/Cruise WAR OF THE WORLDS are the best ‘50s sci-fi movie ever made, just a definitive Aliens Invade Earth scenario. But despite terrific moments after that, it loses energy and momentum and just becomes tiring.
But I will always remember the sound those ships made — the rumbling, shrieking roar is terrifying.

I don't remember if the T.C. WOTW was made before or after Dakota Fannings' rehab stint.
Does anybody remember?

[quote]Too bad the film is such a trainwreck that it is forever barred entry by me personally. No, thank you. Do not pass go. Is this a movie or a money laundering scheme? It’s not even enjoyably funny, because you’re immediately distracted from the alien invasion unfolding in front of you and instead stuck thinking about the gambling debts the actors in this film are trying to wipe clean. If you squint, close your eyes, and then ram your head into a brick or cement wall several times, you might find some irony in Wells’ seminal anti-Manifest Destiny text being co-opted by the very corporation that can reasonably be accused of colonizing the internet. But that would require brainpower — and War of the Worlds makes sure to suck that dry.

R2 why disrespect Tom? He’s no crazier than most celebs.

Not one mention yet of the 1953 version?

I thought Megalopolis has a lot of good qualities R14. I know I'm in the minority. Maybe one day we'll get a director's cut. Not being cynical but what other movie this year had a scene with characters trading quotations from Marcus Aurelius on the qualities of leadership. Powerful stuff especially these days.

What the critics are saying.
[quote]"It's one of the most tragic things Prime has put on screen - and I say that as someone who had to watch its Mr Beast game show. Any aliens considering invading our planet will take one look at the new War of the Worlds and change their plans. Why bother making the trip when all humanity has to offer is five-star brain-rot with atrocious special effects?"
