Amazing poster. Wow.
First poster for “The History of Sound” starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor

Seriously. Sick of him.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 23, 2025 5:56 PM |
Beautiful poster. I actually love this. I would hang it on my wall
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 23, 2025 5:57 PM |
I think it’s great too
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 23, 2025 6:13 PM |
Unpopular opinion: O’Connor is more attractive than Mescal.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 23, 2025 6:20 PM |
Uh, that’s like vomit looking better than shit.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 23, 2025 7:18 PM |
Two fugs does not a good poster make.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 23, 2025 7:29 PM |
I just finished the short story collection this movie's based on. 12 stand alone but kind of interlocking stories. Engaging and touching. Their tale is the first story, with a sort-of coda in the final story.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 23, 2025 7:54 PM |
Is this a lesbian story?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 23, 2025 7:55 PM |
Wait a minute . . .

What OP? Poster tells nothing of poster.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 23, 2025 10:55 PM |
I actually really like that poster.
I don't care about the movie, but the poster, yeah. That's a good poster.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 23, 2025 11:13 PM |
I don't get the Paul Mescal obsession. To me he looks like a bricklayer who beats his wife and gets in fistfights at the pub. Really low class.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 23, 2025 11:17 PM |
It’s just a close-up of their faces!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 23, 2025 11:38 PM |
Looks like the cover of a bad YA novel
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 24, 2025 2:56 AM |
The trailer for the movie was released today. See link.

Wasn't he accused of bullying a gay classmate some years ago?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 24, 2025 7:52 PM |
The trailer looks wonderful. I'm in. September 12th!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 24, 2025 7:58 PM |
I love Hermanus's films... this premiered at Cannes and got tepid reviews, but I'm still excited by it.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 24, 2025 9:13 PM |
Other than a (forbidden) gay romance it's hard to tell what it's really about. Though beautifully shot.
Love Paul and Josh. Their American accents are impeccable.

[quote]Reminds me of A Little Life cover
Your post reminds me how much I hated that piece of shit book.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 24, 2025 9:21 PM |
The trailer looks good. Can't wait to see this!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 24, 2025 10:39 PM |
The film has very few reviews on Rottentomatoes and is barely rated as fresh. But even the negative reviews understand what the audience wants:
[quote] Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor do prove the captivating onscreen couple that all their fans hope they’d be, it’s just a pity that The History of Sound doesn’t provide as sweeping a canvas for them to paint as anticipated.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 24, 2025 10:50 PM |
I usually don't care about this, but it kind of irks me that they got a Brit and Irish to play these two American characters.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 24, 2025 11:11 PM |
Too many "Pascals" around. I get confused.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 25, 2025 12:20 AM |
Is the movie in black and white?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 25, 2025 2:34 AM |
If only the trailer would have provided a clue, R31.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 25, 2025 2:50 AM |
R25 Amen. My most despised book next to The Goldfinch.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 25, 2025 2:54 AM |
I'd rather a. movie about the true history of sound. Primates thought that sound was just occurring in their heads.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 25, 2025 2:59 AM |
This looks horrid and the reviews are scathing- Basically the film is a bore.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 25, 2025 3:42 AM |
I've liked every Hermanus film I've seen. Looking forward, even if the subject matter and the hillbilly accents aren't my thing.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 25, 2025 1:30 PM |
Hiss.
Hissssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 25, 2025 1:34 PM |

I don't have a big problem with that. My problem is that these two characters should be played by openly gay actors -- not 2 straight guys.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 28, 2025 7:23 AM |
By your logic, gay actors should never be allowed to play straight characters.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 28, 2025 7:57 AM |
They both seem to be making something of a career out of playing gay characters. And are quite good at it.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 28, 2025 8:22 AM |
Paul’s biggest roles are playing straight. So no, he isn’t making a career of playing gay.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 28, 2025 8:56 AM |
I laughed at comment on another website that described both actors as "Our favorite G4P actors"
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 28, 2025 9:54 AM |
[quote]I don't have a big problem with that. My problem is that these two characters should be played by openly gay actors -- not 2 straight guys.
There aren't that many openly gay actors, though. Do we really want Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer to play all the gay characters?
Film stars like Kate Winslet have said there are many who don't want to come out (and indeed many of them are suspected on here). I can understand why if they think they're only going to play gay characters from then on.
That said, I suspect some straight actors express resistance to playing gay given many of the same straight actors play gay characters. Mescal was in 'All of Us Strangers' and O'Connor was in 'God's Own Country' and 'Challengers' (I know the latter wasn't a solely gay role, but it had a same-sex scene).
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 28, 2025 10:24 AM |
R43 Sorry Paul, wouldn't have expected it to be such a sensitive topic for you.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 28, 2025 10:27 AM |
Bailey and Bomer are so pretty, they're not right for everything. And Bomer is a meh actor, in my opinion.
The exciting one is Andrew Scott. Really enjoying his career.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 31, 2025 3:09 AM |
R15 I don’t get it either but I’m also half Irish from Boston with an Irish American population and guys who look like him aren’t that hard to find. They’re everywhere. He’s no Colin Farrell.
I feel like today, Hollywood is picking relatability over “movie star looks”. Mescal and Florence Pugh would have never broken through as young lead actors 10 years ago or any time before that. Their looks are so basic.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 31, 2025 4:01 AM |
R48 I fancy him, just wish he were hairier.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 31, 2025 4:37 AM |
Trailer looks beautiful. I've never seen any of Hermanus' films. What do the cinema buffs think is his finest film?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 31, 2025 7:09 AM |
Was not the least bit interested until I saw that trailer. Looks like it could be a good movie. If the actors were more attractive it would be even better.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 31, 2025 7:22 AM |
Marc Bendavid played a married young father on Reacher S1. He's 42 now, Canadian, and has a Belgian mother and a Moroccan Jewish father. I had never seen him before Reacher and in his first scene I thought "that guy is really cute and that face and body seems GAY GAY GAY, to me." Yep, gay and partnered.
Just a tangent. I guess he played the secondary character well enough despite seeming uber gay to me.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 31, 2025 9:24 AM |
PS, his boyfriend is François Arnaud, another cute French Canadian actor who works all the time.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 31, 2025 9:28 AM |
R52 Having parents with such diverse international heritage, how does he manage to look so thoroughly Canadian?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 31, 2025 10:31 AM |

Belgians are lily white Europeans, dear. And Jews are also white.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 31, 2025 12:11 PM |
I'm tired of him but I'm more tired of the person who keeps using him here as a cold mackerel to slap us with.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 31, 2025 12:24 PM |
He looks like a white dude
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 31, 2025 1:19 PM |
Background reading.
Yes he's white. "Mizrahi" jews run from Iraq to Morocco. Many skin colors, mostly more or less caucasian.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 31, 2025 1:42 PM |
Canadian and American isn't really an ethnicity. Melting pots. Amerindians have a longer claim to looking American or Canadian. But they were immigrants too, at one time.

^^they crossed the ice bridge from Siberia.

Some of those amazonian horse hung young men on Chaturbate kind of look like Skinny Ripped Eskimos.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 31, 2025 3:22 PM |
R55 What?? I wasn't referring to his skin color, dear. I was talking about the flat, open, benign-looking, generically non-threatening, attractive countenance that so many Canadian men share. Ala Ryan Reynolds.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 31, 2025 10:25 PM |
"flat, open, benign-looking, generically non-threatening, attractive countenance" could describe North Africans.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 31, 2025 10:51 PM |
His father's a Jew from Morocco, not ethnically Moroccan.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 31, 2025 11:35 PM |
R64 Yeah, it can at times also describe my ass.

Just curious, do you actually complete a book of that length when all the while you're hating it?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 31, 2025 11:58 PM |
r67 I'm not the poster you're talking to but I have a weird thing were if I start reading a book I HAVE to finish it, even if the book is awful. I don't know why.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 1, 2025 12:19 AM |
That should've been "a weird thing WHERE." Sorry. I wish we had an edit function.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | August 1, 2025 12:19 AM |
R68 I was a voracious reader; similarly, I would read anything and everything, whether I liked it or not. Then I quit smoking. Haven't been able to get through a book since, going on 20 years. My limit is now about 2 paragraphs for any random online shit. TLDR now defines my relationship with the printed word.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | August 1, 2025 7:24 AM |
North African Jews are both North Africans AND citizens of their country. His father was North African and Moroccan. But not Arab.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | August 1, 2025 10:02 AM |
We'd be even more excited if Mescal looked like Theo James and sounded like Josh Groban.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | August 4, 2025 2:48 PM |
Eldergays are so funny with their rigid, unmovable beauty standards. Both of these guys are very good actors and undeniably sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | August 4, 2025 3:43 PM |
I will deny Paul Mescal's sex appeal now and forever. Even if he were to do OF or porn. He's a mealy red potato of a man with eyes growing out of it,.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | August 5, 2025 9:07 PM |
Fun OT fact: the photo on A Little Life is "Orgasmic Man, 1969," by Peter Hujar.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | August 5, 2025 9:44 PM |
Here's a short clip from the movie. The movie is supposed to be released September 12th in the USA.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | August 29, 2025 4:45 AM |
Paul Mescal is just so fucking naturally sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | August 29, 2025 4:47 AM |
When Paul first broke big a few years ago he used to live in my area. I often saw him out running in the park, sometimes with his shirt off.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | August 29, 2025 1:40 PM |
Paul looks so cute clean-cut cut.
