OP there's a big difference between a Whites Only community (implies anyone non-white is forbidden to live there) and a community that is "predominantly / totally" White. The former really don't exist, the latter are probably very common in some places.

An eye opening moment from my childhood: I’m white and grew up in a pretty much all-white Boston suburb in the 70s/80s. In ‘78 when I was 11, we sold our small starter house and moved to a bigger one across town. I remember the day a Black couple came to look at it with our realtor while we were home. They seemed polite enough, a normal walk-thru. It was the first time I could recall Black people inside our house.

After they left, my dad seemed really uneasy and kept muttering. My mom was trying to soothe him in hushed tones saying “I don’t think they’re real… you know, they do a program now, it sends them out here to act the part and see if there’s a problem. It was in the Herald.” Then the knocks on the door came. Neighbors had seen. Neighbors were talking, wanting to know if we were even considering selling to them. More hushed conversations out on the front steps. Tension.

I realized my own parents and my friends’ parents were a lot more soft-racist — and not-so-soft racist — than I’d previously understood.

I live in the retirement community of Sun City, Arizona and I was surprised to see in Wikipedia that it is 99% white.

Some places?

The USA is around 60% White, 19% Latino, 13% Black, 6% Asian, 2% Other.

Thus, there are still tons of all-white towns and schools.

In particular, the Northeast, Midwest, and Northwest are very white, between 65% and 95% white depending on the state.

I'm in Massachusetts and there are many predominantly white communities here in New England, which is 80% White.

The USA is not as diverse as woke Hollywood tries to make it seem where everyone has multiracial friends/neighbors/colleagues/classmates.

I grew up in one! I poshy suburb in Chicago. It was the days when realtors played all kinds of tricks to keep black people out of towns.

Back then, upper middle class people wouldn't have consider themselves racists. They’d say they were concerned about property values and not race. Which, of course, made them fucking racists.

The first Black person who moved into town was a producer of the Oprah show. And, no, property values didn’t crater. It’s truly astonishing that this type of bullshit happened in the very recent past and was considered completely normal. And seems to be normal again under Trump.

One thing I do have to say about Georgia. Not north Georgia or rural Georgia, but the rest of us. We do have integrated housing. it doesn't matter if it's seriously high end mega mansions or simply gated upper Middle class enclaves. They're integrated. No covenants, although I am sure there are a lot of white affluent Georgians who would love to bring covenants back.

R33 They don’t have to because whites don’t have to segregate. They’ve designed a system in the US where if you’re white and affluent you can live amongst each other. If you’re living in an area with too many people of color then you’re poor. Upper / affluent black people / people of color usually choose to stay in their neighborhoods in higher end areas than deal with living in a whiter suburban area.

So whites don’t need this. They have suburban towns and they hate gatekeepers that keep people out.

I live in North Shore of Boston. Any person who lives in the North Shore know black people aren’t “allowed” in Marblehead and black people don’t want to go there for those reasons.

I live in Ireland, posh neighbourhood and a black family live next door. For a while a black family lived two doors down also. I dont even think about it. It certainly wasnt, isnt, a thing in my neighbourhood. I think, in America, black=poor perhaps, so its a prejudice against those seen as trashy and low class as oppjsed to those who are black? They just happen to be the poorer folk. Its poverty neighbourhoods happen to be black people....so could it be more of a class thing than a race thing?

There are people in the US who self-select by moving to states or regions with very few minorities. North Idaho would be an example. It's a beautiful but hard-scrabble area, and the people who grew up there would need help even identifying a minority because when the first trains came through, no black people stepped off to say "this is the place I want to call home".
