Skyfall is Peak James Bond

One of the best Bond movies.

The franchise will never reach these heights again.

Get real, it reached its peak with Octopussy.

Also a great one, R1.

by Anonymousreply 2July 20, 2025 11:45 PM

It depends on who is playing James Bond!!

by Anonymousreply 3July 21, 2025 12:14 AM

My ranking would be:

1) GoldenEye

2) Skyfall

3) Casino Royale

4) License To Kill

5) Goldfinger.

I think GoldenEye is the best because it contains all the classic 1960s tropes found in the Connery movies but with modern cinematography, flawless pacing, a memorable cast and a cool industrial soundtrack. Skyfall is an excellent movie but it just doesn't achieve perfection in the way that GoldenEye does.

And it was my dramatic swansong, bitches!

The level of emotion that generated, R5, is like nothing I’ve ever experienced in a Bond film. Really caught me off guard.

by Anonymousreply 6July 21, 2025 12:35 PM

I agree, I thought Skyfall was one of the best if not THE best Bond movie. And yet, I feel like I'm ready for some lighter story, like GoldenEye. Skyfall had a good story and direction. But if every Bond was as deep and emotional (and they tried) I'd lose interest. The Roger Moore movies are usually not highly regarded, but The Spy Who Loved me is quintessential Bond for me. I hope the next Bond will be a bit more light hearted again.

Skyfall’s third act is remarkable. No bombs, no planet-wide threat, just good storytelling.

I hate to be a sourpuss, but who fucking cares?

In a way I don't expect much from AMZ to handle the next Bonds well. In another way I have to admit that they have a daunting task ahead recreating Bond.

Whatever they churn out will face pushback from at least some. Some will say that AMZ plays it too safe and not push hard enough for an engaging movie. Other will say that the new movie is not the real Bond because he is blond, black or too pretty or not pretty enough or because of some other nothingness. Bond movies have covered so many different grounds with several generations claiming that their Bond is the true Bond. AMZ will surely break at least some hearts, no matter what they do.

Wrong. Casino Royale is peak Bond. Skyfall is very good, though.

^^^CASINO ROYALE WAS AWESOME^^^

Fucking A! LOVED Eva Green

"Put your back into it!"

Loved Ben W's Q. The first two Craig outings as Bond were amazing. The gap between films really hurt momentum, IMO.

SKYFALL was wonderful until it became BATMAN BEGINS but you can't beat the cast. Absolutely wonderful. And Bardem made a fantastic nemesis for Bond.

Skyfall is better.

Agreed, R10. All of which makes the think that Amazon will miss the mark by a mile and ultimately kill the franchise.

Amazon seems to lack any artistic vision or aspiration, they aim for for middling, cheap fare and die quantity. The best things put out by Amazon were produced elsewhere and, by whatever means, fell into Amazon's hands. Their cheapness and indifference shows at every turn.

Skyfall is a brilliant Bond, my favorite, but also one built upon a foundation of cheeker (sometimes goofier and terrible) Bond films, a few of which are great but in a different way.

I can never forgive Skyfall for that ridiculous subway scene.

by Anonymousreply 18July 25, 2025 12:56 PM

I always forget the subway scene, doe the reasons R18 suggests.

James Bond died the day Amazon took control of him.
