I can relate to all of the above.

What I can't relate to is posting a self-pitying 36-minute rant on YouTube. This is not helpful. I would advise him to move, and failing that, chill the fuck out. Nobody wants to be around a depressed person or a spaz.

But youth and hormones make it rough — sigh. I don't miss those years.

He's venting, and when you live in a small town with few gays there are not a lot of options where people get you. He is entertaining, so I think that works for him. He's young, he will find someone some day. He's cute and his personality is warm, self deprecating and vulnerable. Guys into long term like that. Love is just not something you can order up or expect an app to do for you on demand.

I watched the follow-up, too, R9. I must say, I am glad I did not go through my teenage years or 20s with social media (YT, IG, Snapchat...any of it). It can sure make things...messy sometimes.

Yes, but not all gays especially now want to get laid by fat old trolls. Granted, it sounds like you didn't care but some men actually have basic standards. You know like someone their own age, or decent looking.
