#9. Theaters nearly empty for screenings.
"James Gunn’s Superman looks to dip around 52% for roughly $60M in its second weekend. Monday and Tuesday were strong with $12.9M and $17.1M, respectively, and a running five-day total of $155M. Superman keeps all the PLFs and Imax screens this weekend."

It'll drop over 60%. Word is out that it was meh, nothing special and definitely not near as good as it was getting hyped. They needed a home run and they got a double.

I saw it with my brothers and found it great, really surprising and funny. Spoilers: if you have a dog or like dogs, you’ll find that the Superdog, Krypton, is a cute co star all the way through the movie. Plus, Superman rescues a squirrel. There’s a huge surprise about Superman’s parents, which I won’t give away, but it’s powerful. I went for a weekday matinee when I was off work visiting my older brother across the country, and we went on his birthday- his choice. The theater was nearly empty, which probably had something to do with the time of day but also with the general decline of movie theaters. The theatre was advertising its space for business conferences, which I didn’t used to see years ago. I predict it will make a lot of money streaming, later.

Sorry, Krypto is the dog’s name, not Krypton. -R3

OP may have posted something fake; there’s no way it grossed 300K on Wednesday; many times that. It’s doing well in the theater.

I'm not a superhero movie fan and was kind of in Hell for the first half an hour (crowded theatre, I hate people, fanboys cheering) but then I started to lighten up. Took me back to seeing Superman II as a kid and loving it. I'm not gonna start watching all the DC and Marvel movies or anything but I'll see this again. It was something I haven't experienced at the movies in a long time-I had fun.

R5, keeping dreaming. It needs over $600 million to break even at the box office. It’s a bomb.

Two weeks in and Jurassic World Rebirth has made $700 million. THAT’S a smash. Not this turd.

R5, it’s hard data, not the spin Warner Bros and James Gunn are shouting.

Do I trust a trusted industry trade like Variety or an anonymous internet troll? Hmmm… decisions, decisions. 🤔

As of Wed., July 16th, Jurassic World Rebirth has made $548 million at the worldwide box office. That's a great haul, but why are you padding the numbers? Oh, nevermind.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 17, 2025 10:43 PM |
Jurassic Park had a Wednesday release and made $55 million Wed/Thursday, otherwise the numbers look pretty similar.
Monday 11m
Tuesday 15m
Wed 10m
Superman
Monday 12.9M
Tuesday 17M
Wed 11.7
So, not sure why you're pressing that button so hard, weirdo.

R1 Those numbers are solid, what are you talking about?

Yes, those numbers invalidate OP's claim.

The franchise has never been a big draw in foreign markets. Superman Returns was pretty much DOA overseas. Man of Steel didn’t do fantastically. A lot of the heavy lifting needs to be done stateside and if Superman doesn’t make 350m in US it’s not looking good.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 18, 2025 5:16 PM |
It's doing really well.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 20, 2025 10:21 PM |
If it's doing really well then it should've easily reached $500M+ WW in its second weekend.

R22 Show us on the doll where Superman touched you, weirdo. Why do you want this to flop so badly? It's a fun summer movie that preaches kindness, I hope it makes bajillion dollars.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 20, 2025 10:44 PM |
Well just saw it.
The theater was full, but it was one of the smaller theaters at this location (100-150 seats)
I also don't understand R23 why people get so involved in a movie's success or failure (unless they worked on the movie or are a WB shareholder).
It was fine. It was better than Jurassic World (which is not great praise). David Corenswet was a very capable Superman (kind of to my surprise).
It was lighthearted compared to recent Batman and Superman movies, so I can see why it might not appeal to some diehard noir DC fans.
I feel like the inclusion of the B list of the Justice League (Mr. Fantastic and Guy Gardner) might be confusing/off putting to some. I know who they are (and I knew who Peacemaker and Maxwell Lord were for their cameos, but I am a nerd), but do others?

Mr. Terrific (my bad)
That is how memorable his is. It isn't the actor's fault. The character is just ... meh.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 27, 2025 12:23 AM |
Superman's overseas numbers are abysmal. That's just a fact. Why is that such a controversial thing to say? By the way, Fantastic Four's numbers are looking pretty similar as well.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 27, 2025 12:31 AM |
It'll probably lock at $600M. Not horrible numbers at all.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 27, 2025 12:44 AM |
It doesn't make any sense to say "My bad" but then immediately put the blame on the actor.
Your bad indeed.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 27, 2025 12:51 AM |
It’s in free fall thanks to Fantastic Four. Oh, well. The two gay led films, Jurassic World and Fantastic Four beat it to a pulp.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 27, 2025 12:59 AM |
We saw it today and our theater was packed at an early matinee despite it being on two screens.
Rachel B. played Lois Laine as Mrs. Maisel.

You did see R28 where I said:

by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 27, 2025 1:15 AM |
I agree R30 all I saw was Maisel. She was miscast. I thought Nicholas Hoult was fine but he really didn't have a lot to do here. They shouldn't have released the films so close together R29.
