'American Idol' music supervisor and husband found shot dead in LA home

Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, both 70 -- were found shot to death in their Los Angeles home during a welfare check on Monday, authorities said.

The suspect -- 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian -- was arrested at his home on Tuesday. He said Boodarian had scaled a fence onto the property and was inside when the victims arrived home and then shot and killed them during a "violent struggle."

It is believed the couple were killed on July 10, when the Los Angeles Police Department received two calls about a possible burglary at the address in Encino after a person was seen jumping the fence onto the property.

Officers responding to the calls that day were unable to go into the home because it is highly fortified, with 8-foot walls with spikes, police sources said earlier. Police flew a helicopter over and saw no signs of a burglary or of any other trouble and left, the official said.

However, surveillance footage later reviewed by police showed the suspect scaling the fence and then apparently entering an unlocked door, Golan said. The victims arrived home about 30 minutes later, he said.

A friend of the victims called police on Monday for a welfare check, Golan said. Responding officers saw blood on the porch and broke a window to get inside where they found the victims with multiple gunshot wounds. They both had gunshot wounds to the head, police said earlier.

The motive remains unclear, Golan said. He said the house did not appear to be ransacked.

"We're looking into multiple avenues on what the motive may be," he said.

Police do not believe Boodarian knew the victims and said Boodarian is not a suspect in any other burglaries, police sources said earlier.

There is no camera footage from inside the house that shows what went on, the lieutenant said.

The LAPD will look into how police responded to the initial burglary call last week to make sure it was handled appropriately, he said.

Kaye had been with the TV show "American Idol" since 2009, according to a spokesperson for the ABC singing competition series.

Dayum. Tragic. I’m guessing they had the doors unlock because ringcam or alarm system would have triggered. Stuff like this be making me think want the death penalty. Imagine just shopping at the mall, running errands, and you come back to this maniac who probably has the iq of a peanut. They’ll shout you for a couple hundreds and fkin smartphone. Omg.

by Anonymousreply 2July 16, 2025 1:04 AM

I doubt the death penalty would make the slightest bit of difference.

Actually, there is something very hinky here. A place that looks all sealed up and hard to get into and likely to have all sorts of security is picked at random by some very amateur burglar, who then hangs around until the couple happens to come home? I don't know. Something seems very odd and not just random here.

That's insane!

So this is what is has come to, for rich people in Los Angeles.

Building walled in fortresses that are highly fortified with incredibly high walls and spikes on top.

It sounds medieval.

Okay, so not to be all DL junior detective, but this ain't working for me. So blood on the porch, not just inside where the couple was shot (in the head, execution style?), but on the porch like they just showed up and a panicked burglar shot them right then and there. Except, nope, they still went inside and got shot there. And it's not like the burglar fled the scene, leaving the door open behind him. Nope, police had to break a window to get inside.

I need answers, people, and I want them on my desk by tomorrow morning!

I know there are expensive houses in Encino. The Jackson family compound was or is there. Maybe because of the Pauly Shore movie I just think of it as really boring looking and middle to upper middle class.

by Anonymousreply 16July 16, 2025 2:42 AM

Most burglars choosing a random house to steal from don’t commit double murder the moment they encounter the residents. Police say the house didn’t look ransacked. Sounds like maybe it was a hit.

Encino is actually in a great location.

But I agree, "Encino Man" really did the neighborhood no favors. The movie made it sound cheap and tacky.

However, Encino is very central to everything.

Adjacent to Beverly Hills, and close to Downtown L.A., Hollywood, Pasadena, Calabasas, and Burbank.

I'd love to live there, but could never afford it.

But Encion IS very tacky and boring. Suburban sprawl mostly of tacky 70's cheaply built ranch style houses.

Adjacent to Beverly Hills? Since when did being on the other side of a mountain qualify as adjacent?

by Anonymousreply 20July 16, 2025 4:27 AM

Oh, DL, don't ever change.

Double murder? Well, yeah, but the important thing is how tacky Encino is. Honestly, are we sure he wasn't doing them a favor, really?

Robin Kaye contacted a private security firm recently, fearing someone around the neighborhood that she & her husband felt was suspicious or behaving suspiciously. (there was also an attempted break-in in May). This report from KNBC states that the suspect Raymond Boodarian is an Encino resident...but he was arrested at his apartment in Reseda, so I'm not sure what that's about. Maybe his parents live in Encino near Kaye's house. Sounds like he's a junkie according to his apartment neighbors (link in next post).

The suspect accused of killing American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her musician husband Thomas Deluca allegedly fatally shot the couple with their own gun, according to reports.

Kaye and Deluca, both 70, were found dead with gunshot wounds inside their $4.5-million Encino, Calif. home on July 14.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to a burglary call at the property four days prior, according to a felony complaint filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, which was examined by PEOPLE. After finding no signs of forced entry, they left. It's thought that the couple were already dead, or possibly dying, that same day.

During a town hall meeting at the Encino Community Center on Monday, July 21, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said that the man accused of the killings reportedly shot the victims with their own gun before calling the police himself, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. The suspect is thought to have found the weapon inside after breaking in, CBS News noted.

The day after the victims were discovered deceased, the LAPD confirmed to PEOPLE that Raymond Boodarian, 22, a resident of Encino, had been arrested in connection with the killings. According to authorities, the couple is believed to have walked in on the suspect inside their home, where a confrontation turned deadly.

He was charged two days later on Thursday, July 17 with two counts of murder and one count of residential burglary with a person. The murder charges include the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder during the commission of a burglary, as well as firearm allegations.

On Monday, Hochman told town hall meeting attendees that the suspect used his cellphone to call police after the killings, providing his name, ABC7 Los Angeles reported, noting that this ultimately resulted in him being tracked down.

On July 14, Kaye and Deluca were found in separate rooms of their home with gunshot wounds to the head. According to police sources, officers arriving at the scene discovered a trail of blood leading to the front of the property and made entry through a shattered glass sliding door at the back of the house.

Deluca was found in the bathroom, while Kaye was located in the pantry. First responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced the couple dead at the scene.

"The victims returned home while the suspect had gained entry into the residence, and a confrontation ensued, which resulted in the suspect taking their lives,” authorities previously told PEOPLE. “The victims succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, and the suspect fled from the residence on foot.”

This isn't a Karen Bass problem, its an LAPD problem. They have been there a lot longer than a newly elected mayor. Remember how the LAPD sparked the Rodney King riots? Or how they protected OJ every time Nicole called the police for help before she was ultimately murdered?

R52. Um...they were joking, you humor-lacking cunt.

by Anonymousreply 53July 22, 2025 8:12 PM

The LAPD has some 'splaining to do.

[quote]Recently, LAPD has faced criticism for responding to 911 calls in the San Fernando Valley where, in one incident, they left without entering the location and returned later to find a person who had been killed.

Menashe “Manny Hidra, 53, was discovered murdered in his third-floor apartment at an upscale Valley Village apartment complex on April 26, three days after police responded to his apartment on a 911 call where a neighbor reported hearing screams and someone yelling for help.

Aleksandre Modebadze, 47, was found beaten to death in his Woodland Hills home on the same day. It was later learned that a woman inside the home had called 911 at around 12:30 a.m. before the call abruptly ended. Officers responded at around 1 a.m. but left after the 911 operator was unable to reconnect with the caller, they didn’t hear any noise coming from inside and no one answered the door. Hours later, police found Modebadze suffering from traumatic head injuries inside the home where he was eventually declared deceased at the scene.

This is not at all how Ryan Murphy's 9-1-1 show portrays the LAPD, LA Fire Dept., and 9-1-1 service.

The total opposite, in fact.
